  • This study developed e-book content in order to use e-books as a tool to provide more efficient classes to learners who are familiar with smart devices and online spaces. E-book contents were produced using Sigil-0.9.10. The development process is as follows. Before e-book development, it is necessary to prepare manuscript files, image files to be inserted, fonts to be used, and e-book covers. After inserting the book cover images, it is necessary to register the table of contents using the title tag and register the free fonts. Also, a style must be created for text or images used in the main text connected to a file containing the entire text. Then, after separating the entire text file into separate files according to each chapter, the text is completed in turn. E-books were produced focusing on hyperlink functions so that educational content and various example images could be accessed. Currently, there is a lack of research on e-books as textbooks in universities within the fashion design major. In the future, if e-book contents are developed according to the characteristics of courses and the level of learners, they can be used as effective teaching tools.

  • Many countries are establishing and operating blended learning that combines the advantages of online and offline education. However, online education lecture-based Mooc courses have a very low level, with a graduation rate of less than 5-10%. Therefore, in order to increase the graduation rate of students taking online Mooc distance education lectures that anyone can easily take lectures anytime, anywhere on the web-based basis, it is necessary to introduce automatic analysis of students' understanding level of lectures and an automatic academic warning system. Moreover, in order to enter an advanced education country, it is necessary to develop an automatic judgment SW for wrong answer rate, automatic summary SW for lectures, and automatic analysis SW education for lecture-based weak subjects based on mixed learning levels. In order to improve this problem, in this paper, we proposed and simulated an automatic summarization system for lecture contents, an automatic warning system for incorrect answers, and an automatic judgment algorithm for weak subjects.

  • This study was conducted to develop an online education program for visiting health nurses on National Health Examination. The study period was from November 2016 to December 2017. The program was developed in stages using rapid prototyping methodology. 1) Learners' needs were identified through literature review and focus group interviews (FGIs) with visiting health nurses and stake-holders in the field. 2) The contents of the education program including counseling strategies regarding the heath of visiting health nurses were developed. 3) Online education materials were developed and piloted amongst learners. 4) The contents of educational programs were classified into eight learning modules, and online education drafts were pilot tested. 5) Based on feedback from learners, this program was revised and a web-based continuing education program for community nurses was developed. These education programs effectively assisted nurses with counseling regarding health examinations during visiting health nursing care. Therefore, the online continuing education program may be a very effective educational approach to improving nurses competency.

  • Peer assessment is the process of assessment of students by other students and one form of innovative assessment. It actively involves students in the assessment process and is generally agreed that such involvement enhances the quality and effectiveness of the learning process, since assessing something and benchmarking process is a powerful aid to mastering it themselves. It is more effective on the hard courses for them to understand. In this article we present a peer assessment technique which was applied to students enrolled in a mathematical statistics course and a historical course. In order to measure the effectiveness of the technique, students had to evaluate their colleagues based on predefined criteria and a comparison is presented between the instructor assessments and the peer assessment.

  • This study is on capacity building and attitude to work of librarians in Edo State public libraries, Nigeria. Investigation was on the capacity building programs in the Edo State public libraries, the levels of librarians' awareness and participation in the programs, methods of building the capacity programs, influence on the librarians' attitudes to work and factors militating against the programs. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and the entire population of 23 librarians were used. Results indicate that the capacity building programs in the library include computer literacy skills, online public access catalogue (OPAC), Internet collection management and general trends in librarianship. The methods used in building the capacity programs in the library include conferences, workshops/seminars, on-the-job and internally organized courses. Respondents indicated very low level of participation in the programs and a negative influence of the programs on their attitudes to work. Various problems were identified as militating against the capacity building programs and solutions were suggested.

  • In this paper, we present the FlappyBird Competition System (FCS) implementation, a competition-based automated assessment system used in an entry-level artificial intelligence (AI) course at a university. The proposed system provides an evaluation method suitable for AI courses while taking advantage of automated assessment methods. Students are to design a neural network structure, train the weights, and tune hyperparameters using the given reinforcement learning code to improve the overall performance of game AI. Students participate using the resulting trained model during the competition, and the system automatically calculates the final score based on the ranking. The user evaluation conducted after the semester ends shows that our competition-based automated assessment system promotes active participation and inspires students to be interested and motivated to learn AI. Using FCS, the instructor significantly reduces the amount of time required for assessment.

  • By using the Blackboard (BB) system in the education sector, the educational process for both academics and students is facilitated. Two data resources were used to evaluate the use of the BB system by students of Umm Al-Qura University: statistical reports issued by the university and an online questionnaire. A total of 989 students from all colleges and different programmes provided by the university responded to the questionnaire survey. According to our findings, most students did not use the BB before the pandemic. Therefore, the sudden conversion to the BB system required intensive training courses. After the data analysis, the relationship between the use of the BB system before the pandemic and the problems students faced during the lockdown was revealed. The most critical issues raised by the respondents were: (1) "The voice of the lecturer went on and off during BB collaborate class", (2) "internet connection of the lecturer went on and off during BB collaborate class" and (3) "High possibility of IT problems during exams".

  • Purpose: This study investigated the current dental radiology reporting methods and the recording rate of 10 mandatory reporting items in Korea. Materials and Methods: An original online survey created using Google Forms was distributed to dental practitioners. The survey asked about the participants' age, experience, workplace, use of radiologic equipment, radiology reporting methods, and recording reporting items. Results: In total, 354 responses were analyzed. Radiologic reporting in dental charts was the most commonly used method for each modality. Four out of 10 mandatory items were recorded at a high rate, but the remaining 6 items had substantially lower recording rates, often below 50%. The participants who reported radiographic findings through other separate methods had higher item scores than those who wrote findings in dental charts(P<0.05). Conclusion: Radiologic societies and dental associations should encourage the use of separate reports for radiographic examinations. Education regarding radiology reports and the justification for reporting items should be reinforced in dental schools, training courses on radiology, and the continuing education curriculum.

  • Blackboard provides a collaborative environment for teaching in terms of assessment and communication and can improve learning outcomes. To evaluate the Blackboard use of faculty members at Umm Al-Qura University, data were collected from two channels: statistical reports issued by the university and an online questionnaire. The questionnaire survey respondents were 187 faculty members from all colleges in the university. The findings show that most faculty members did not use Blackboard before the pandemic; therefore, the sudden conversion to the use of Blackboard required intensive training courses. In addition, accompanying Blackboard use with other applications such as WebEx is preferable, especially for administrative tasks such as departmental board meetings and seminars.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic had substantial negative impacts and caused several disruptions to the global supply chain of the shipping industry. The key challenges identified in terms of maritime manpower are the Certificates of Competency (CoC) or the expiration and/or failure to complete refresher and/or revalidation courses, which directly hinder employment retention and lost opportunities at sea. To tackle this issue directly and swiftly, the creation of the APEC SEN Distance Learning Platform was suggested and approved by APEC as part of an official project. This paper introduces the APEC-wide accessible distance learning platform with the following key topics: the organisation and operation of the platform, the themes and content to be prioritised, the process of education, training, certification, and the ways to promote accreditation, mutual recognition on CoC, education and training videos by taking collaborative actions, and the development of content.
