  • In these days, multiple-path generation method is highly demanded in practice and research areas, which can represents realistically travelers behavior in choosing possible alternative paths. The multiple-path generation algorithm is one of the key components for policy analysis related to ATIS, DRGS and ATMS in ITS. This study suggested a method to generate multiple Possible paths from an origin to a destination. The approach of the suggested method is different from an other existing methods(K-shortest path algorithm) such as link elimination approach, link penalty approach and simulation approach. The result of the multi-label vine-building shortest path algorithm(MVA) by Kim (1998) and Kim(2001) was used to generate multiple reasonable possible paths with the concept of the rational upper boundary. Because the MVA algorithm records the cost, back-node and back-back node of the minimum path from the origin to the concerned node(intersection) for each direction to the node, many potential possible paths can be generated by tracing back. Among such large number of the potential possible paths, the algorithm distinguishes reasonable alternative paths from the unrealistic potential possible paths by using the concept of the rational upper boundary. The study also shows the very simple network examples to help the concept of the suggested path generation algorithm.

  • The delivery problem on a graph is that of minimizing the object delivery time from one vertex to another vertex on a graph with m vertices using n various speed robot agents. In this paper, we propose two optimal solution algorithms for the delivery problem on a graph with time complexity of O(㎥n) and O(㎥). After preprocessing to obtain the shortest path for all pairs of the graph, our algorithm processed by obtaining the shortest delivery path in the order of the vertices with the least delivery time. Assuming that the graph reflects the terrain on which to solve the problem, our O(㎥) algorithm actually has a time complexity of O(㎡n) as only one preprocessing is required for the various deployment of n robot agents.

  • The centralized traffic information system is to gather and analyze real-time traffic information, to receive traffic information request from user, and to send user processed traffic information such as a path finding. Position information, result of destination search, and other information. In the centralized traffic information system, a server received path-finding requests from many clients and must process clients requests in time. The algorithm of multiple path-finding is needed for a server to process clients request, effectively in time. For this reason, this paper presents a heuristic algorithm that decreases time to compute path-finding requests. This heuristic algorithm uses results of the neighbor nodes shortest path-finding that are computed periodically. Path-finding results of this multiple path finding algorithm to use results of neighbor nodes shortest path-finding are the same as a real optimal path in many cases, and are a little different from results of a real optimal path in non-optimal path. This algorithm is efficiently applied to the general topology and the hierarchical topology such as traffic network. The computation time of a path-finding request that uses results of a neighbor nodes shortest path-finding is 50 times faster than other algorithms such as one-to-one label-setting and label-correcting algorithms. Especially in non-optimal path, the average error rate is under 0.1 percent.

  • The shortest path problems(SPP) are critical issues in the military logistics such as the simulation of the War-Game. However, the existing SPP has two major drawbacks, one is its accuracy of solution and the other is for only one solution with focused on just link cost in the military transportation planning models. In addition, very few previous studies have been examined for the multi-shortest path problems without considering link capacity reflecting the military characteristics. In order to overcome these drawbacks, it is necessary to apply the multi-shortest paths algorithm reflecting un-expected military incidents. This study examines the multi-shortest paths in the real networks using Shier algorithm. The network contains both military link capacity and time-based cost. Also, the modes are defined as a platoon(group) rather than unit which is used in most of previous studies in the military logistics. To verify the algorithm applied in this study. the comparative analysis was performed with various sizes and routes of network which compares with Dijkstra algorithm. The major findings of this study are as follows ; 1) Regarding the unique characteristics of the military transportation plan, Shier algorithm, which is applied to this study, is more realistic than Dijkstra algorithm. Also, the time based concept is more applicable than the distance based model in the military logistics. 2) Based on the results from the various simulations of this study the capacity-constraint sections appeared in each scenarios. As a consequence, the alternatives are necessary such as measures for vulnerable area, improvement of vehicle(mode), and reflection of separated-marching column in the military manuals. Finally. the limits and future research directions are discussed : 1) It is very hard to compare the results found in this study. which is used in the real network and the previous studies which is used in arbitrary network. 2) In order to reflect the real military situations such as heavy tanks and heavy equipment vehicles. the other constraints such as the safety load of bridges and/or the height of tunnels should be considered for the future studies.

  • Purpose - Finding an optimal path is an essential component for the design and operation of smart transportation or logistics network. Many applications in navigation system assume that travel time of each link is fixed and same. However, in practice, the travel time of each link changes over time. In this paper, we introduce a new transportation problem to find a latest departing time and delivery path between the two nodes, while not violating the appointed time at the destination node. Research design, data, and methodology - To solve the problem, we suggest a mathematical model based on network optimization theory and a backward search method to find an optimal solution. Results - First, we introduce a dynamic transportation problem which is different with traditional shortest path or minimum cost path. Second, we propose an algorithm solution based on backward search to solve the problem in a large-sized network. Conclusions - We proposed a new transportation problem which is different with traditional shortest path or minimum cost path. We analyzed the problem under the conditions that travel time is changing, and proposed an algorithm to solve them. Extending our models for visiting two or more destinations is one of the further research topics.

  • In this paper, we suggest a spatial regression model to predict AADT. Although Euclidian distances between one monitoring site and its neighboring sites were usually used in the many analysis, we consider the shortest travel path between monitoring sites to predict AADT for unmonitoring site using spatial regression model. We used universal Kriging method for prediction and found that the overall predictive capability of the spatial regression model based on shortest travel path is better than that of the model based on multiple regression by cross validation.

  • It is shown that the do Bruijn graph (dBG) can be used as an architecture for interconnection network and a suitable structure for parallel computation. Recent works have classified dBG based routing algorithms into shortest path routing and fault tolerant routing but investigation into fault free shortest path (FFSP) on dBG has been non-existent. In addition, as the size of the network increase, more faults are to be expected and therefore shortest path dBG algorithms in fault free mode may not be suitable routing algorithms for real interconnection networks, which contain several failures. Furthermore, long fault free path may lead to high traffic, high delay time and low throughput. In this paper we investigate routing algorithms in the condition of existing failure, based on the Bidirectional do Bruijn graph (BdBG). Two FFSP routing algorithms are proposed. Then, the performances of the two algorithms are analyzed in terms of mean path lengths and discrete set mean sizes. Our study shows that the proposed algorithms can be one of the candidates for routing in real interconnection networks based on dBG.

  • This study deals with the development of wire path searching module as a part of automobile wire harness design system. Wire path searching module manages the free space, finds transition locations, and creates bundle paths to dramatically reduce a tedious iterative routing process which results in easy optimization of the bundle paths. A prime policy in the system configuration is to compromise between man's and computer's ability, and make it possible a designer's leading role in designing process. Human input is indispensable to cope with the special cases which were not considered in the initial design stage of the system. In this study, we improve the previous shortest-path-finding algorithm, (VGraph and RCA method) into a new method called Extended RCA. Bundles, connectors and transitions are handled as objects so one can manage and modify physical properties of the objects easily. Therefore a verification is allowed at any desired stage of design. The reuse of previous result is facilitated by using Dependency Structure, which represents the mutual relations among connectors, transitions, and bundles. Dependency Structure makes it possible the elimination of redundant calculating process, and consequently shorter routing time.

  • In spite of the importance of nuclear power as one of major electric energies in Korea, the nuclear safety has become the most serious social issue in the operation of the nuclear power plant. In this paper, a virtual work simulation program was developed to predict exposure dose during radiation work in radwaste storage. The work simulation program was developed. using $Java ^{TM}$applet and VRML-virtual reality modeling language. A numerical algorithm to find the optimal work path which minimize exposure dose during the given work, was developed and exposure dose on the optimal work path was compared with that on the shortest path. Comparing with the shortest path for the given work, the predicted optimal path consumed longer work time by II% but reduced total exposure dose by 46%. The simulation result showed that the exposure dose depended on not only work time, but also the distance between the worker and the radiation source. The developed simulation program could be a useful tool for the planning of radioactive waste work to increase the radiation safety of workers.
