  • Aspirin is one of the oldest synthetic drugs and remains the most widely used medical agent. It is a household remedy effective in treating such common ailments as headache, minor muscular pain and fever. Aspirin is the drug choice for rheumatic fever and arthritis which some five million Americans suffer. Lately it has been established by double-blind and randomized clinical studies that regular aspirin intake reduces the incidence of mild strokes and heart attackes.

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the types of men's back and chest through the criteria which represent the characteristic of men's back and chest. We have the following conclusions based on our sample size of 291 men's back and chest. The result of factor analysis concerned with men's back indicates that six factors are extracted and they are consist of 80.6% of total variance. We divide the shape of back into three categories: bent, protrusion of the scapula, and breadth. Each category is divided into subcategories. According to the frequency based on our data entries of 291 men's back, we introduce five new types of men's back. 83.8% of examined men's back belong to one of these five types: (i) 15.5% of protrudent and lordotic type; (ii) 6.5% of flat and lordotic type; (iii) 22.7% of protrudent and normal type; (iv) 34.4% of flat and normal type; (v) 4.8% of flat and bent type. The result of factor analysis related to with men's chest shows that six factors are extracted and they are consist of 76.0% of total variance. We divide the shape of chest into three categories: thickness, breadth, and protrusion of the breast. Each category is divided into subcategories. According to the frequency based on our data entries of 291 men's chest, we introduce four new types of men's chest. 65.0% of examined men's chest belong to one of these four types: (i) 7.2% of full and well-developed type; (ii) 24.1% of full and developed type; (iii) 25.8% of flat and developed type; (iv) 7.9% of flat and under-developed type. In order to consider the shape of the upper body as a whole, the back and the chest types should be corresponded.

  • Many scientifc applications include manipulation of data points tying in a space. We describe a method, based on sector labeling to generate a space-filling curve for partitioning such given data points. Our method is straightforward and flexible, equipping a one-one correspondence between point-values on the curve and data points in space in more efficient than designated methods found in the literature. It is widely believed that the Hilbert curve achieves the desired properties on linear mappings due to the locality between data points. Therefore we focus on the Hilbert curve since, later on, we identify it as the most suitable for our application. We demonstrate on using our method for the data particles of an n-body simulation that based on Barnes-Hut algorithm.

  • Motivated by XTR cryptosystem which is based on an irreducible polynomial $x^3-cx^2+c^px-1$ over $F_{p^2}$, we study polynomials of the form $F(c,x)=x^3-cx^2+c^qx-1$ over $F_{p^2}$ with $q=p^m$. In this paper, we establish a one to one correspondence between the set of such polynomials and a certain set of cubic polynomials over $F_q$. Our approach is rather theoretical and provides an efficient method to generate irreducible polynomials over $F_{p^2}$.

  • Particle Imaging Velocimetry (PIV) is becoming one of essential methods to measure velocity fields of fluid flows. In this paper, a genetic algorithm capable of tracking same particle pairs on two separated images is introduced. The fundamental of the developed technique is based on that on-to-one correspondence is found between two tracer particles selected in two image planes by taking advantage of combinatorial optimization of the genetic algorithm. The fitness function controlling reproductive success in the genetic algorithm is expressed by physical distances between the selected tracer particles. The capability of the developed genetic algorithm is verified by a computer simulation on a farced vortex flow.

  • We derive a set of formuale which show one-to-one correspondence between the the unitary Jones matrices of transparent anisotropic media and the rotational transformations on the Poincare sphere. By using the formuale one can determine the vectorial representation of the rotational transformation on the Poincare sphere which specifies the direction of the axis and the angle of the rotation in terms of the three parameters specific to the corresponding unitary Jones matrix, and conversely the the three parameters of the uniatry Jones matrix in terms of the vectorial representation of the corresponding rotational transformation on the Poincare sphere. To understand the polarization transmission characteristics of an optical system consisting of transparent linear anisotropic media, start with the Jones calculus to get the unitary Jones matrix for the whole system and then convert it to a rotational transformation on the Poincare sphere, from which we can intuitively understand the effect of the optical system on the polarization state of the light passing through the system.

  • PURPOSES : The applicability of the mechanics-based similarity concept (suggested by Feng et al.) for determining scaled variables, including length and load, via laboratory-scale tests and discrete element analysis, was evaluated. METHODS: Several studies on the similarity concept were reviewed. The exact scaling approach, a similarity concept described by Feng, was applied in order to determine an analytical solution of a free-falling ball. This solution can be considered one of the simplest conditions for discrete element analysis. RESULTS : The results revealed that 1) the exact scaling approach can be used to determine the scale of variables in laboratory tests and numerical analysis, 2) applying only a scale factor, via the exact scaling approach, is inadequate for the error-free replacement of small particles by large ones during discrete element analysis, 3) the level of continuity of flowable materials such as SCC and cement mortar seems to be an important criterion for evaluating the applicability of the similarity concept, and 4) additional conditions, such as the kinetics of particle, contact model, and geometry, must be taken into consideration to achieve the maximum radius of replacement particles during discrete element analysis. CONCLUSIONS : The concept of similarity is a convenient tool to evaluate the correspondence of scaled laboratory test or numerical analysis to physical condition. However, to achieve excellent correspondence, additional factors, such as the kinetics of particles, contact model, and geometry, must be taken into consideration.

  • Model' is one of the well-used, but poorly understood word in the neurobehavioral research. After Darwin's evolutionary theory, it has been generally believed that human is different from animals in terms of the complexity, not of the essential. This notion could be applied to the mind as well as body. Therefore, it became possible to establish animal models in the scientific field of mind. Experimental analysis of the animal behavior becomes an important area for establishing an animal model of human psychopathology because behavior is the ambassador of the mind. A model emphasizes a structural correspondence between sets of causally related variables in two different domains such as the animal and the human. The first selection of elements of the two domains in correspondence called the initial analogy. Once the initial analogy is formed. causally related variables in the two domains are examined and arrayed The structural parallel is the formal analogy of a model, and similarities between corresponding variables are called material analogy. Models may serve any of three major functions ; heuristic, evidential and representative. In many cases, utilizing models may be more practical than directly assessing the domain of primary interest, since technical and/or ethical problems are more serious in the human domain. Although modeling is important to study human psychopathology, rare animal models approved to be a good model for the human psychopathology up to now. Developing the appropriate model is urgent to solve many problems raised from human psychopathology.

  • We introduce the concepts of interval-valued fuzzy complete inner-unitary subsemigroups and interval-valued fuzzy group congruences on a semigroup. And we investigate some of their properties. Also, we prove that there is a one to one correspondence between the interval-valued fuzzy complete inner-unitary subsemigroups and the interval-valued fuzzy group congruences on a regular semigroups.

  • We prove that for any continuous function f on the s-harmonic (1{\infty})$ boundary of a complete Riemannian manifold M, there exists a solution, which is a limit of a sequence of bounded energy finite solutions in the sense of supremum norm, for a certain elliptic operator A on M whose boundary value at each s-harmonic boundary point coincides with that of f. If $E_1,\;E_2,...,E_{\iota}$ are s-nonparabolic ends of M, then we also prove that there is a one to one correspondence between the set of bounded energy finite solutions for A on M and the Cartesian product of the sets of bounded energy finite solutions for A on $E_i$ which vanish at the boundary ${\partial}E_{\iota}\;for\;{\iota}=1,2,...,{\iota}$
