Design and Implementation of AR Model based Automatic Identification and Restoration Scheme for Line Scratches in Old Films (AR 모델 기반의 고전영화의 긁힘 손상의 자동 탐지 및 복원 시스템 설계와 구현)

  • Old archived film shows two major defects: line scratch and blobs. In this paper, we present a design and implementation of an automatic video restoration system for line scratches observed in archived film. We use autoregressive (AR) image model because we can make stochastic and specifically autoregressive image generation process with our PAST-PRESENT model and Sampling Pattern. We designed locality maximizing scanning pattern, which can generate nearly stationary time-like series of pixels, which is a strong requirement for a stochastic series to be autoregressive. The sampled pixel series undergoes filtering and model fitting using Durbin-Levinson algorithm before interpolation process. We designed three-stage film restoration system, which includes (1) film acquisition from VHS tapes, (2) simple line scratch detection and restoration, and (3) manual blob identification and sophisticated inpainting scheme. We implemented film acquisition and simple inpainting scheme on Texas Instruments DSP board TMS320DM642 EVM, and implemented our AR inpainting scheme on PC for sophisticated restoration. We experimented our scheme with two old Korean films: "Viva Freedom" and "Robot Tae-Kwon-V", and the experimental results show that our scheme improves Bertalmio's scheme for subjective quality (MOS), objective quality (PSNR), and especially restoration ratio (RR), which reflects how much similar to the manual inpainting results.

  • As in most industrial processes, the dynamic characteristics of an electric power system are subject to changes. Amongst those effects which cause the system to be uncertain, faults on transmission lines are considered. For the stabilization of the power system, we present an indirect adaptive control method, which is capable of tracking a sudden change in the effective reactance of a transmission line. As the plant dynamics are nonlinear, an input-output feedback linearization method equipped with nonlinear damping terms is combined with an identification algorithm which estimates the effect of a fault. The stability of the resulting adaptive nonlinear system is investigated.

  • The dynamic characteristics and mathematical models of the KEPCO's generator control systems have been derived by on-line tests. Measuring the responses for small disturbances in the inputs, the parameters of governing systems, excitation systems, and power system stabilizers have been determined. An overview of the field tests, parameter identification, and model verification is presented.

  • As growing the electronic commerce there are significant changes in the products/services catalog into the on-line environment. Advertent of e-catalog business opportunity for their own product/services enlarges the market volume and there are diverse methods for the presentation of its product/services. A method for the presentation of product/services features one uses identification and classification system. This study constructs a classification system and database layout for the product/services classification system as a part of e-catalog system. We consider the specific method for the GDAS-based dataset and UNSPSC classification system in the distribution industry.

  • A study to identify the energized status of the 22.9kV underground power cable by the detection of vibration was reformed. We derived that there exists vibration at double the line frequency in live cables by electromagnetic force. The vibration can be picked up by accelerometer sensor. A prototype was tested on the underground distribution system in Chonan Station, KEPCO. The results are presented and suggest the applicability of the detecting device.

Little guideline and tuning method, however, has been recommended for the nonlinear PID controllers while a lot of result is available for the linear PID controllers.   • An electrolytic capacitor is widely used in a motor drive system. Therefore, the deterioration diagnosis of an electrolytic capacitor is needed of preventive maintenance of the system. In this paper, we propose a new diagnosis method for the electrolytic capacitor by using the system identification method, which presents the information about the capacitor's interna parameters in on-line operation an use fuzzy algorithm for the deterioration decision. We demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme by using computer simulation.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy adaptive controller which can improve the control policy automatically. Adaptation is achieved by the addition of on-line identification of the fuzzy inverse model using input-output data pairs of the process. Starting with an initial crude control rule, the adaptive controller matches the model to the process to self-tune the controller. The control algorithm needs much less memory of computer than other SOC algorithms.
