There are not many studies on job satisfaction among older workers living alone. This study examined the determinants of job satisfaction for older workers living alone, and the job satisfaction was analyzed by the demographic-social factors, the health-psychological factors, and labor factors regarding to sex and ages. Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS, 18th) used in this study, and the subjects were 308 older worker living alone and over 55 years old. The determinants of job satisfaction for male respondents were happiness, organizational commitment, and duration of work. Howver, the determinants of job satisfaction for female respondents were age, happiness, organizational commitment, and levels of skill. Income, organizational commitment, employment stability, and duration of work were the determinants for 55-64 years old. Education, organizational commitment, and levels of skill were the determinants for 65-74 years old. Education and happiness were the determinants for 75 years old and over. Age, income, happiness, organizational commitment, employment stability, duration of work, and levels of skill were the determinants of job satisfaction for all respondents. Finally, this study proposed the policy and practical implications for improving of job satisfaction among older workers living alone.
This study aims to ensure that the help of family members and caregivers has a controlling effect in the process of restrictions on the Activities of Daily Living affecting depression in the elderly. Based on the 15th data of the Korea Welfare Panel, technical statistics, average difference analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and control effect analysis were conducted on 4,214 senior citizens aged 65 or older. The results of the study are as follows. First, restrictions on the Activities of Daily Living has been shown to have a significant effect on depression in older people. Second, between restrictions on the Activities of Daily Living and depression of the elderly, the family's private help has been shown to function as a modulator to alleviate depression of the elderly. Third, between restrictions on the Activities of Daily Living and depression of the elderly, public help from caregivers does not function as an adjustment variable that alleviates depression of the elderly. Implications were derived and policy suggestions were presented based on these results.

To investigate male office workers' dietary habits and their perception and intake of health functional foods, 234 male employees were surveyed by questionnaire. The results were categorized into three age groups: under 35 years, 35 and 45 years, and over 45 years. The over 45 years group had significantly better dietary habits than the others (p<0.05). The most common reason for skipping breakfast was lack of time. Frequency of drinking alcohol was higher in the older group, where tiredness after drinking was lower in the younger group. The perception score of health functional foods was highest in the over 45 years group. Perception of health functional foods was more positive as the age of the groups increased (p<0.01). The number of health functional foods consumed, duration of intake, and beneficial health effects were higher in older groups. Although older people are more concerned about health than relatively younger people, they did not necessarily have reduced the amounts of smoking and drinking. Instead, they simply showed higher intakes of health functional foods to prevent and cure disease and improve their health. Therefore, older people need to receive education about their dietary and living habits instead of simply eating health functional foods. It is necessary to provide correct information about health functional foods by nutritional education.

Purpose: This study sought to investigate the perceptions and service needs of tele-physical therapy among people in their 50s and older in Korea. Methods: Subjects were inducted during a 14-day survey of 104 people over the age of 50 in Korea and were administered a questionnaire consisting of 14 questions about their general characteristics and another 14 questions about tele-physical therapy. Results: The general characteristics of the participants (participants' gender, whether they were single or married, number of cohabiting families, final education, major, job, physical therapy experience, tele-physical therapy experience, presence of a physical therapy worker among relatives, subjective health awareness, chronic disease conditions if any, frequency of drinking, and smoking) were investigated. Among the perceptions of the subjects about tele-physical therapy, the score of 'awareness' was the lowest, and that of 'resolving restrictions on hospital visits' was the highest. In an analysis of the correlation between perceptions and needs, there was a significant correlation with factors other than 'awareness' and 'information protection' factors. The regression analysis of necessity and factors revealed that the awareness of necessity increased as the intention to use, health improvement, and time efficiency improved. Conclusion: These findings presented the perception and necessity of tele-physical therapy for adults in their 50s or older in Korea. These results will help confirm the demand for tele-physical therapy in this age group in Korea and the need to improve the available physical therapy services.
The purpose of this study is to increase understanding of the social intervention for severely isolated older adults who live alone and are in serious isolation as if they were 'hidden'. Through qualitative descriptive methods, it intends to describe how social workers in the "Making Friends of Older Adults who Live Alone" project have perceived older adults living alone in serious isolated situation, whether there have been changes in the perception of the elderly according to the progress of the project, and what kinds of experiences these social workers have had while providing case management to older adults. In-depth interviews with 40 social workers, case management records of 70 senior citizens, and research journals were collected and analyzed using qualitative content analysis methods. The results of data analysis were presented in two categories and four subcategories each. Based on the research findings, four kinds of implications were suggested.
As workplace incidents has been being declining in Korea, there is criticism of the effectiveness of occupational safety policy implementation. It is unknown that which policy target group needs to be targeted to yield effective injuries prevention. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and reveal the policy intervention group with a high priority in terms of industrial incident prevention and the related investment cost. A Policy Priority Model(PPM) is composed of 6 indicators regarding influences of both the incident reduction and the cost reduction. Z-score analyses are used to confirm the high policy priority area or policy target group. Overall, workplace with worker below 50 persons, construction site with the sales of more than a hundred million won, workplace with relatively small percentage of female employees and relatively higher percentage of older worker should be prioritized to reduce workplace injuries. This paper provides an analytic way that can be used to decide the policy priority workplace in order not only to reduce work-related injuries&illnesses and the related investment cost but to further lessen the related societal costs.
We estimate the effect of an increase in the minimum wage on employment. In Korea, there is no exogenous variation in the minimum wage across regions or industries. One single minimum wage is applied to every worker in the whole country. In this paper, we exploit arguably exogenous variation in the proportion of workers affected by the minimum wage across worker groups defined by age, sex, education, tenure and establishment size. Using the data from the Survey on Labor Conditions by Type of Employment (SLCTE) from 2006 to 2014, we find that a 1% increase in the minimum wage decreases the full-time equivalent employment by about 0.14%. The effect is heterogeneous across workers; we find the effect is more adverse for female workers, low-educated, younger and older workers, workers with a shorter tenure, and workers in small- and medium-sized establishments.
Background: Workers are often exposed to hazardous heat due to their work environment, leading to various injuries. As a result of climate change, heat-related injuries (HRIs) are becoming more problematic. This study aims to identify critical contributing factors to the severity of occupational HRIs. Methods: This study analyzed historical injury reports from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Contributing factors to the severity of HRIs were identified using text mining and model-free machine learning methods. The Multinomial Logit Model (MNL) was applied to explore the relationship between impact factors and the severity of HRIs. Results: The results indicated a higher risk of fatal HRIs among middle-aged, older, and male workers, particularly in the construction, service, manufacturing, and agriculture industries. In addition, a higher heat index, collapses, heart attacks, and fall accidents increased the severity of HRIs, while symptoms such as dehydration, dizziness, cramps, faintness, and vomiting reduced the likelihood of fatal HRIs. Conclusions: The severity of HRIs was significantly influenced by factors like workers' age, gender, industry type, heat index , symptoms, and secondary injuries. The findings underscore the need for tailored preventive strategies and training across different worker groups to mitigate HRIs risks.

This study was conducted to use the feedback of health personnel to improve the Visiting Health Service. The data was collected from 471 Home Health Workers serving 24 local health organizations in the Kyung-Pook province. 62.5% of the respondents were men under thirty-nine years of age. 92.8% of the respondents are married. 47.1% had degrees from junior colleges. It was ascertained 52.7% of the workers visited their patients six to twelve times within a six month period. And one to three patients were visited per day by one worker. Workers of older age, higher job position, and more experience were more positive in their feedback about the program. In addition, local health center employees, including nurses, were more positive about the program. Younger workers with a higher level of education, less experience, and lower job position had more insight into the problems of the program. Deeper insight into these problems led to a more negative conception of the program. Older workers with higher ranking jobs were found to be most competent. in their jobs. Workers at the main health center were assessed higher than the workers at the health sub-center or the primary health post. In addison nurses at all centers were found to be slightly more competent than the nurses' aide. The primary health post established the highest degree of patient satisfaction. It was discovered that the more positive the workers felt about the program, the higher their patient satisfaction feedback. There was a positive correlation between management assessment and patient satisfaction. This means that better program management was found to produce higher patient satisfaction. Workers feel being more educated about patient management would lead to better service. However, they take no action to produce these results. Where the problems of the system are most commented upon, the need for further education is greatest. Through multiple regression analyses it is apparent that the assessment of patient management is the greatest variable affecting patient satisfaction of patients is dependent on the management by the visiting health worker. Therefore, the development of the visiting health program is highly dependant on the feedback of those workers with a negative conception of the program. So the development of programs, motivation, education and training must be established. These works would lead to active participation by visiting health workers in the improvement of the Visiting health program.
Purpose: This research aims to investigate into company workers' awareness of scaling and related factors and provide basic materials for setting up appropriate policies to improve the hygiene of the mouth of industrial workers and developing training programs for the worker's hygiene of their mouth, as part of researches to establish schemes for improving the workers's hygiene of their mouth. Method: Questionnaire was conducted by convenience sampling for 220 office workers belonging to H Group located in Seoul Metropolitan city over about 5 weeks between December 17, 2007 and January 20, 2008. The questionnaire for this study was constructed in consideration of general characteristics of the subjects, behaviors of the dental management. and scaling. The collected questionnaires were electronically processed using SPSS 12.0. Result: The followings are the findings of this research. First, in general, scaling is experienced by male unmarried worker in their 40s. whose monthly average income is 1.00-1.99 million won and have little interest in the hygiene of their mouth and, consequently. whose hygiene of the mouth is not good. Second, scaling is experienced once every six months by the worker in their 50s or older, who are college graduates and have much interest in the hygiene of their mouth and, consequently. whose hygiene of the mouth is good. Third. scaling is not periodically conducted because of high costs of it in terms of almost every parameter of general characteristics. Fourth, they have correct knowledge of scaling since they regard it as 'removing of plaque and tartar' in terms of every parameter of general characteristics. Fifth, the workers' sex (pE0.05), hygienic condition of the mouth (pE0.05) and knowledge of scaling (pE0.001) have a significant effect on their scaling experience. Conclusion: It is considered that dental health management should be continued by training of the importance of prevention through scaling as measure for dental health promotion of workers.
