  • This study was to provide information about snow falling phenomenon in Korea for 1934 years from BC 6 to 1928 based on the records of old literatures, which are the true record of the Chosun dynasty, records of king Kojong and Soonjong, and some data including history of the Koryo in internet home page of Korea meteorological administration. Key words used in search procedure were totally 20 words such as snow, heavy snow, big snow, snow pellets, snowstorm, avalanche, etc. The searching contents consisted of the time of the first and the last snow, the amount of snow falling, snow damage, the thought about heavy snow phenomenon, and unusual weather conditions related to snow. The earliest record for the first snow was July of the rural calendar in 733 and the latest record for the last snow was June 11 of the lunar calendar. From these records, it could be estimated that there were some snow falling even in summer season. The amount of almost heavy snow ranged from 1.2 m to 1.5 m, but sometimes there were some records about the amount of snow falling higher than 3 meters. It was also found that there were three records about big heavy snow damages. In 1524 and 1525, approximately 100 and 140 peoples in Kyungsung, Hamgyung Province were dead due to heavy snowstorm. It was also recorded that 91 people in Jeiu island were dead in 1670 because of snow damage. Some singular records about snow were also found in old literatures. There was a congratulatory ceremony of new snow when the first snow was falling in the year. There was also a ritual praying for snow when there was no snow in the year. • Primary sarcomas of the lung are rare malignant neoplasms which have usually been classified as fibrosarcomas or leiomyosarcomas. Only 10 cases of primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma [MFH] of the lung have previously been reported in the literatures. The histomorphology of the MFH is marked by their extensive cellular variability, nuclear atypia, abnormal mitotic figures and storiform arrangement of the cells. Recently, we experienced a case of MFH, arising in the parenchyme of lung in 66-year-old male patient, and treated with surgical intervention. So we firstly reported it with review of literatures.

  • Chosen General Government initiated the activities of collecting and managing the archives from Chosen Dynasty because of necessity to push positively for its colonial policies. Particularly, such efforts of the regime resulted eventually in boosting their understanding on the Korea cultures, as well as contributed to their reigning Korea to an extent. Some aspects that reflect it are as follows. In 1910 Chosen General Government took over, and began to arrange and classify huge volumes of archives that were held by the royal family. During this period, they collected and arranged literatures that they took over from the earlier Korean government. In 1913, Chosen General Government increased enormously the varieties and volumes of the archives that they intended to collect. They started with collecting archives limited to those literatures that had existed in the civil sector before 1894. It can be noticed that just in 1913 Chosen General Government revealed their intention to collect and classify both royal archives and civil archives. With the work of collecting, classification and annotating archives, Chosen General Government commenced the compilation of Chosensa (Korean History). These efforts aimed at cultural assimilation and educating of Korean people, and in this process, the importance of Chosen Dynasty's archives was reconfirmed. One of the representative cases was a change of terminology. With the compilation efforts into full swing since 1915, Chosen General Government repeatedly started to use the term 'Saryo' (historical records) in connection with Chosen's literatures and archives. The term 'Saryo' previously had been used in Japanese literatures, and it is deemed that it was used as a term generally referring to archives of Chosen Dynasty from that time. This signifies that Chosen General Government began to involve their historical point of view in approaching to the archives of Chosen. As they broadened their understanding on Korea through the annotation of old literatures and compilation of Chosen History, they seriously set on the work of assimilating Korean people culturally aiming at gripping its reign on Korea. Archives of Chosen likewise were very crucial basic data for understanding Korea and its people, and Chosen General Government is deemed to have utilized the archives as a means to reign and assimilate Korean people.

  • Man-heo-Jeong, which was located in the middle of the Sibri bamboo grove near by Tae-hwa river in Ulsan, was a Jeong-ja(a kind of pavilion) by Park Chui-moon, both a military officer and a nationwide town chief. Now we can presume the appearance of Man-heo-Jeong, referring to the old map describing old Ulsan districts and to old literatures of Park Chui-moon's family describing downtown of Ulsan of that times. It is estimated that the size of Manheo-Jung was constructed three-bay in front view, one point half-bay in side view and terrace in the fore front. Its space composition was designed likewise one-bay was both sides and in the middle there was one-bay Maru called joong-dang-hyeob-sil type. Such a structure made people to enter from the back entrance of gazabo and look the front view dramatically.

  • The characteristic features of myasthenia gravis, which are weakness of voluntary muscle and easy fatigability, result from defective neuromuscular transmission caused by an autoimmune response to acetylcholine receptor. Recently, we performed two cases of thymectomy for the treatment of myasthenia gravis, one was 50 year old man who had malignant thymoma and the other was 19 year old girl who had benign thymic hyperplasia. The former had long duration of symptoms, and showed poor postoperative result. The latter had short duration of symptoms, and showed complete remission. Herewith, we suggest that early thymectomy can give the clinical assets for myasthenia gravis. So we report these two experiences with review of literatures.

  • The concept of discrete curvature is a discretization of the curvature. Many literatures introduce discrete curvatures derived from arc length of circular arcs. We propose a new concept of discrete curvature of a polygon at each vertex, which is derived from area of fan shapes. We estimate the error of the discrete curvature and compare the discrete curvature with old one.
