  • Objectives : This study is to report a case of tinea pedis accompanied with erythema and pruritus, treated with Korean medicine treatment. Methods : A 26-year-old female patient has suffered from erythema and pruritus on her right 3rd toe. She applied desoximetasone ointment on it for a month, but the effect didn't last long and the symptoms got worse. After disappointing application of the corticosteroid, she received Korean medicine treatment including herbal medicine and herbal external medication for 1.5 months. Results : The skin symptoms such as erythema and pruritus were remarkably improved. Also, the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) of pruritus changed from 4 to 0. Conclusions : This case report suggests that Korean medicine may have a role in treating tinea pedis with some skin symptoms such as erythema and pruritus.

  • The study was to determine the effect of local anesthetics phonophoretic. Emla 5%(lidocaine+prilocaine) cream make use of medicines. Phonophoretic the application of a ultra sound(I group), application an ointment(II group). Forty college student between the age of man $22.85{\pm}3.31$ woman $21.05{\pm}2.12$, weight of man $70.70{\pm}9.43\;kg$ woman $50.65{\pm}5.13\;kg$, height of man $17.6{\pm}5.43\;cm$ woman $161.20{\pm}4.34\;cm$ were in this study. The results was as follows. There was statistical difference between I group($49.25{\pm}10.83$) and II group($58.90{\pm}10.83$) for the timing of local anesthetics(p<.05).

  • In this paper, we propose a skin lesion detection to develop the system of fluorescence image analysis to identify the fluorescence of topical methyl aminolevulinate(MAL) idduced PpIX in patients with BCC accurately. By fluorescence image analysis we define the border between tumo and tumor-free areas on fluorescence image after topical application of MAL ointment. We excised both the tumor and peri-tumoral areas widely from the 10 patients with BCC, and divided tissue samples into 3 area, such as tumor area, suspected tumor area, tumor-free area, respectively. Our proposed method migt play a role as an adjunctive tool to define the border between tumor and tumor-free areas for Mohs' micrographic surgery.

  • The objective of this investigation was to develop nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) of tacrolimus by the hot homogenization technique by sonication. NLCs are commonly prepared by emulsification and lyophilization. The feasibility of fabricating tacrolimus-loaded NLCs was successfully demonstrated in this study. The developed NLCs were characterized in terms of their particle size, zeta potential, entrapment efficiency (EE) of tacrolimus, and morphology. Studies were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the NLCs in improving the penetration rate through hairless mouse skin. Tacrolimus-loaded NLCs were found to have an average size of $123.4{\pm}0.3\;nm$, a zeta potential of $-24.3{\pm}6.2\;mV$, and an EE of 50%. In vitro penetration tests revealed that the tacrolimus-loaded NLCs have a penetration rate that is 1.64 times that of the commercial tacrolimus ointment, Protopic$^{(R)}$.

  • Molluscum contagiosum(MC) is a viral disorder of the skin and mucous membranes characterized by decrete single or multiple, flesh-colored papules. There was the 6 years old woman who suffered from umbilicated papules and pruritis of back. First, Her mother choiced western medicine, and was treatded with topical(ointment applicatoin) and surgical(curettage) method. Despite of western medical treatment during 3 months, there was not recovery of symptoms. So, she visited the Dept. of Opthalmology & Otorhinolaryngology & Dermatology, College of Oriental Medicine, Kyungwon University for oriental medical treatment. The oriental medical treatment reduced the symptoms of the patient remarkably during 8weeks. So we report the healing process and result of this patient in this study. There is few report that treat MC with oriental medical method. If more clinical trials like this are proved to be effective, we can expect that oriental medical treatment will be a good method in MC.

  • Four N-adamantyl n-alkanamides were prepared by amide condensation reaction between amantadine and n-alkanoic acid. Their enhancing activity on the penetration of ibuprofen through rabbit skin from petrolatum ointment was evaluated in in-vivo experiment. The experiments showed that the compounds have a strong transdermal penetration-enhancing activity, and their activities were comparable with that of Azone. The measurements of the fluorescence polarization of DP[-i-labelled DPPC liposomes showed that these compounds considerablly decreased the phase transition temperature of the liposomes. The mechanism of the transdermal penetration-enhancing activity of the compounds was ascribed to the reduction of the resistance to drug flux of the stratum corneum lipid layers due to the loose packing of the layers when the bulk head group of the enhancers inserts into the layers.

  • Objectives : This study is desinged in order to evaluate the Poison extraction method for the Atopic dermatitis. Methods : The authors observed the two cases of Atopic dermatitis patients who previously used steroid-based ointment. for treating the Poison Extraction Method. Conclusions : 1. In case 1, the patient with mild case of Atopic dermatitis in face is treated with the Poison extraction method. Rash symptoms intensed for first few days. As sweating appeared in the local area from the seventh day, all the symptoms was disappeared rapidly. No recurrence was found. 2. In case 2, the patient with severe case of Atopic dermatitis in whole body is treated with the Poison extraction method. The symptoms intensed after two months and all the symptoms of itchiness, rash, scaly letter dissapeared in the third and fourth months. No recurrence was found. 3. In both cases of mild and severe cases of Atopic dermatitis. all the symptoms were disappeared and no recurrence was found with the Poison Extraction Method.

  • Herbal medicines are popular in Korea communities and used for a variety of diseases, and most herbal medicines has been used an oral administration for treating diseases, but some herbal medicines included Jawoongo has been used by applying on the skin. Jawoongo, a traditional oriental medicine ointment, have been used for treating various dermatitis associated with skin diseases such as tinea manuum, eczema and chilblain, etc. by promoting blood flow(活血), dispersing wind(散風) and moistening(潤燥). Jawoongo used in this study is derived from Yungigo supplemented with Adeps Suillus(豚脂). The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Jawoongo plus Rehmanniae Radix(生地黃) on the healing of incisional skin wound in rats. After inducing an inflammation on the rats, we observed the amount of Leukocyte, the level of Cortisol and CRP(C-reactive protein), the histological parts and have obtained the healing effect of wound by using Jawoongo plus Rehmanniae Radix(生地黃).

  • An 8-month-old, intact male Collie and a 4-year-old, intact male Siberian husky presented with severe wounds on the limbs. Although the wounds were not managed adequately before presentation, there were no remarkable findings except for secondary infections. The lesions were cleaned with a disinfectant and then treated with systemic antibiotics. Additionally, a hydrophilic moisture-absorbing polyurethane dressing was applied to the limbs because a conventional bandage with silver sulfadiazine ointment was not effective. Both cases showed significant improvement in the lesions over a short period of time. These cases show that a bioactive dressing works efficiently to heal refractory wounds in dogs.

  • The primary routes of drug administration include oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous and intravenous dosing for toxicological risk assessment purpose in dog. There has been an increase applying transdermal patches as an alternate method for systemic delivery. The present study was performed to establish the transdermal delivery method of medicated ointment, liquid and powder material to beagle dog.(omitted)
