In this paper, we propose a novel video quality degradation monitoring scheme titled VR-VQMS(Visual Rhythm based Video Quality Monitoring Scheme) over an IPTV service prone to packet losses during network transmission. Proposed scheme quantifies the amount of quality degradation due to packet losses, and can be classified into a RR(reduced-reference) based quality measurement scheme exploiting visual rhythm data of H.264-encoded video frames at a media server and reconstructed ones at an Set-top Box as feature information. Two scenarios, On-line and Off-line VR-VQMS, are proposed as the practical solutions. We define the NPSNR(Networked Peak-to-peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio) modified by the well-known PSNR as a new objective quality metric, and several additional objective and subjective metrics based on it to obtain the statistics on timing, duration, occurrence, and amount of quality degradation. Simulation results show that the proposed method closely approximates the results from 2D video frames and gives good estimation of subjective quality(i.e.,MOS(mean opinion score)) performed by 10 test observers. We expect that the proposed scheme can play a role as a practical solution to monitor the video quality experienced by individual customers in a commercial IPTV service, and be implemented as a small and light agent program running on a resource-limited set-top box.

IEEE 802.15.4 has been emerging as the popular choice for various monitoring and control applications. In this paper, a fault management system for DC power-lines has been designed using IEEE 802.15.4, in order to monitor DC power-lines in real time, and to rapidly detect faults and shut off the line where such faults occur. Numbers were allocated for each node and unslotted CSMA-CA method of IEEE 802.15.4 was used, the performance of which was analyzed by a simulation. For such purpose, a total of 60 bits of the control data consisting of 16 bits of the current, 16 bits of the amplitude, 28 bits of the terminal state data were sent out, and the packet transfer rate and the transmission delay time of the fault management system for DC power-lines were measured and analyzed. When the traffic load was 330 packets per second or lower, the average delay time was shown to be shorter than 0.02 seconds, and when the traffic load was 260 packets per second or lower, the packet transfer rate was shown to be 99.99% or higher. Therefore, it was confirmed that the stringent condition of US Department of Energy (DOE) could be satisfied if the traffic load was 260 packets per second or lower, The results of this study can be utilized as basic data for the establishment of the fault management system for DC power-lines using IEEE 802.15.4.

In this paper, high LO-RF isolation W-band MIMIC single-balanced mixer was designed and fabricated using a branch line coupler and a $\lambda$/4 transmission line. The simulation results of the designed 94 GHz balun show return loss of -27.9 dB, coupling of -4.26 dB, and thru of -3.77 dB at 94 GHz, respectively. The isolation and phase difference were 23.5 dB and $180.2^{\circ}$ at 94 GHz. The W-band MIMIC single-balanced mixer was designed using the 0.1 $\mu$m InGaAs/InAlAs/GaAs Metamorphic HEMT diode. The fabricated MHEMT was obtained the cut-off frequency(fT) of 189 GHz and the maximum oscillation frequency(fmax) of 334 GHz. The designed MIMIC single-balanced mixer was fabricated using 0.1 $\mu$m MHEMT MIMIC Process. From the measurement, the conversion loss of the single-balanced mixer was 23.1 dB at an LO power of 10 dBm. Pl dB(1 dB compression point) of input and output were 10 dBm and -13.9 dBm respectively. The LO-RF isolations of single-balanced mixer was obtained 45.5 dB at 94.19 GHz. We obtained in this study a higher LO-RF isolation compared to some other balanced mixers in millimeter-wave frequencies.

Real-time multicasting is a packet transmission scheme ensuring that multiple destinations receive a packet within the desired time line. In wireless sensor networks, a packet can be delivered to a limited distance under a given deadline, since the end-to-end delay tends to be proportional to the end-to-end physical distance. Existing real-time multicasting protocols select the distance between the source and the furthest destination as the distance limitation and construct a multicasting tree guaranteeing delivery paths to each destination within the distance limitation. However, the protocols might lead to real-time delivery failures and energy efficiency degradation due to the fixed distance limitation. In this study, we proposed a real-time multicasting protocol using time deadline. The proposed protocol obtains the maximum transmittable distance with a given time deadline and subsequently constructs a multicasting tree using the maximum transmittable distance. The form of the multicasting tree varies according to the given time deadline to trade off the energy efficiency against the real-time delivery success ratio. The simulation results showed that the proposed scheme is superior to the existing protocols in terms of energy efficiency and real-time delivery success ratio under various time deadlines.

If a moving target has a linear characteristics, the Kalman filter can estimate relatively accurate the location of a target, but this performance depends on how the dynamic status characteristics of the target is accurately modeled. In many practical problems of tracking a maneuvering target, a simple kinematic model can fairly accurately describe the target dynamics for a wide class of maneuvers. However, since the target can exhibit a wide range of dynamic characteristics, no fixed SKF(Simple Kalman filter) can be matched to estimate, to the required accuracy, the states of the target for every specific maneuver. In this paper, a new AKF(Active Kalman filter) is proposed to solve this problem The process noise covariance level of the Kalman filter is adjusted at each time step according to the study result which uses the neural network algorithm. It is demonstrated by means of a computer simulation that the tracking capability of the proposed AKF(Active Kalman filter) is better than that of the SKF(Simple Kalman Filter).

In this study, a probabilistic model for the estimation of yearly workable wave condition period for offshore operations is developed. In doing so, we first hindcast the significant wave heights and peak periods off the Ulsan every hour from 2003.1.1 to 2017.12.31 based on the meteorological data by JMA (Japan Meterological Agency) and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), and SWAN. Then, we proceed to derive the long term significant wave height distribution from the simulated time series using a least square method. It was shown that the agreements are more remarkable in the distribution in line with the Modified Glukhovskiy Distribution than in the three parameters Weibull distribution which has been preferred in the literature. In an effort to develop a more comprehensive probabilistic model for the estimation of yearly workable wave condition period for offshore operations, wave height distribution over the 15 years with individual waves occurring within the unit simulation period (1 hour) being fully taken into account is also derived based on the Borgman Convolution Integral. It is shown that the coefficients of the Modified Glukhovskiy distribution are $A_p=15.92$, $H_p=4.374m$, ${\kappa}_p=1.824$, and the yearly workable wave condition period for offshore work is estimated to be 319 days when a threshold wave height for offshore work is $H_S=1.5m$. In search of a way to validate the probabilistic model derived in this study, we also carry out the wave by wave analysis of the entire time series of numerically simulated significant wave heights over the 15 years to collect every duration periods of waves the height of which are surpassing the threshold height which has been reported to be $H_S=1.5m$ in the field practice in South Korea. It turns out that the average duration period is 45.5 days from 2003 to 2017, which is very close to 46 days from the probabilistic model derived in this study.
This study selected optimal sites in Myeongsasimni located in west coast of Korea for stratigraphic research containing extreme climate event during quaternary period by spatio-temporal analyses of changes in sedimentary environment and land use employing 1918 topographic map, 2000 digital terrain map, 1976 and 2012 air photographies. The study area shows no significant changes in topographic characteristics that hilly areas with relatively large variations in elevation are distributed over north and south part of the study area, and sand dues are developed along the coast line. Moreover, flat low lying areas are located at the back side of the sand dues. The movement of surface run off and sediment loads shows two major trends of inland direction flow from back sides of sand dunes and outland direction flow from high terrains inland, and the two flows merge into the stream located in the center of the study area. Two sink with individual area of $0.2km^2$ are observed in Yongjeong-ri and Jaryong-ri which are located in south central part and south part of the study area, respectively. In addition, sea level change simulation reveals that $3.4km^2$ and $3.64km^2$ are inundated with 3 m of sea level rise in 1918 and 2000, respectively, and it would contribute to chase sea level change records preserved in stratigraphy. The inundated areas overlaps well with sink areas where it indicates the low lying areas located in south cental and south part of the study area are identical for sediment accumulation. The areas with minimal human impact on sediment records over last 100 years are $3.51km^2$ distributed over central and south part of the study area with the land use changes of mud and rice field in 1918 to rice field in 2012. The candidate sites of $0.15km^2$ in central part and $0.09km^2$ in south part are identified for preferable locations of geologic record of extreme climate events during quaternary period based on the overlay analysis of optimal sedimentary environment and land use changes.
