Development of Fault Detection and Classification Method in Distribution Lines (신경회로망을 이용한 배전선 사고 검출 기법의 개발)

  • Recent applications of neural networks to power system fault diagnosis have provided positive results and have shown advantages in process speed over conventional approaches. This paper describes the application of neural network to fault detection and classification in distribution lines using the fundamental component, 2-5th harmonics index, even and odd harmonics index, and zero phase current. The Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP) is used to obtain fault patterns for the training and testing of neural networks. The proposed fault detection and classification method in distribution lines is obtained by analysing the difference among normal, HIF, ground fault, short circuit fault condition.

  • This paper proposed a high impedance fault detection method using a neural network on distribution lines. The $\upsilon-i$ characteristic curve was obtained by high impedance fault data tested in various soil conditions. High impedance fault was simulated using EMTP. The pattern of High Impedance Fault on high density pebbles was taken as the learning model, and the neural network was evaluated on various soil conditions. The average values after analyzing fault current by FFT of even.odd harmonics and fundamental rms were used for the neural network input. Test results were verified the validity of the proposed method .ethod .

  • Deinterlacing is a method to convert interlaced video, including two fields (even and odd), to progressive video. It can be divided into spatial and temporal methods. The deinterlacing method in the spatial domain can easily be hardware-implemented, but yields image degradation if information about the deinterlaced pixel does not exist in the same field. On the other hand, the method in the temporal domain yields a deinterlaced image with higher quality but uses more memory, and hardware implementation is more difficult. Furthermore, the deinterlacing method in the temporal domain degrades image quality when motion is not estimated properly. The proposed method is for deinterlacing in the spatial domain. It uses several deinterlacing methods according to statistical characteristics in neighboring pixel locations. In this procedure, the proposed method uses the C4.5 algorithm, a typical classification algorithm based on entropy for choosing optimal methods from among the candidates. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms previous deinterlacing methods in terms of objective and subjective image quality.

Dead Time Compensation of Stand-alone Inverter Under Unbalanced Load (불평형부하 시 독립형 인버터의 데드타임 보상기법)

  • Stand-alone inverter supplies constant voltage to loads. However, when a three-phase stand-alone inverter supplies unbalanced load, the generated output voltages also become unbalanced. The nonlinear characteristics of inverter dead time cause a more serious distortion in the output voltage. With unbalanced load, voltage distortion caused by dead time differs from voltage distortion under balanced load. Phase voltages in the stationary reference frame include unbalanced odd harmonics and then, d-q axis voltages in the synchronous reference frame have even harmonics with different magnitude, which are mitigated by the proposed multiple resonant controller. This study analyzes the voltage distortion caused by unbalanced load and dead time, and proposes a novel dead time compensation method. The proposed control method is tested on a 10-kW stand-alone inverter system, and shows that total harmonic distortion (THD) is reduced to 1.5% from 4.3%.

Distance Relaying Algorithm Using a DFT-based Modified Phasor Estimation Method (DFT 기반의 개선된 페이저 연산 기법을 적용한 거리계전 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose a distance relaying algorithm using a Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT)-based modified phasor estimation method to eliminate the adverse influence of exponentially decaying DC offsets. Most distance relays are based on estimating phasors of the voltage and current signals. A DFT is generally used to calculate the phasor of the fundamental frequency component in digital protective relays. However, the output of the DFT contains an error due to exponentially decaying DC offsets. For this reason, distance relays have a tendency to over-reach or under-reach in the presence of DC offset components in a fault current. Therefore, the decaying DC components should be taken into consideration when calculating the phasor of the fundamental frequency component of a relaying signal. The error due to DC offsets in a DFT is calculated and eliminated using the outputs of an even-sample-set DFT and an odd-sample-set DFT, so that the phasor of the fundamental component can be accurately estimated. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated for a-phase to ground faults on a 345 kV, 50 km, simple overhead transmission line. The Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) is used to generate fault signals. The evaluation results indicate that adopting the proposed algorithm in distance relays can effectively suppress the adverse influence of DC offsets.

Readability Enhancement Algorithm for Patterned Retarder based Stereoscopic 3D display (Patterned Retarder 방식 입체 디스플레이에서의 가독성 향상 기법)

  • This paper proposes a readability enhancement filter for Patterned Retarder (PR) display. In general, when some texts in stereoscopic images are shown on PR display, their readability tends to be lowered. In order to overcome this problem, we present a readability enhancement algorithm which consists of readability filtering stage and post-processing stage for specific characters. First, each input stereo image is divided into an odd line image and an even line image. Then, they are independently up-scaled vertically by using Lanczos filter. Next, two up-scaled line images are averaged considering vertical phase difference. In post-processing stage, two specific characters which are normally difficult to read on PR display are detected, and they are filtered for additional readability enhancement. Here, this additional filtering is based on a specific brightness adjustment, and is applied only for two characters. The experiment results show that the proposed method achieves significant improvement in terms of readability in comparison with the previous scheme.

Displacement mapping using an image pyramid based multi-layer height map (이미지 피라미드 기반 다층 높이 맵을 사용한 변위 매핑 기법)

  • Many methods which represent complex surfaces using height map without a number of vertex have been researched. However, a single layer height map cannot present more complex objects because it has only one height value on each position. In this paper, we introduce the new approach to render more complex objects, which are not generated by single layer height map, using multi layer height map. We store height values of the scene to each texture channel by the ascending order. A pair of ordered height values composes a geometry block and we use this property. For accurate ray search, we store the highest value in odd channels and the lowest value in even channels to generate quad tree height map. Our ray search algorithm shows accurate intersections between viewing ray and height values using quad tree height map. We solve aliasing problems on grazing angles occurred in previous methods and render the result scene on real-time.

  • Broadcasting is a basic data communication method for interconnection networks. There are two types of broadcasting. One-to-all broadcasting is to transmit a message from one node to all other nodes and all-to-all broadcasting is to transmit a message from all the nodes that have messages to other nodes. And by the using way of the transmission port per unit time, there are two schemes of broadcasting. Single port telecommunication(SLA) is to transmit messages from one node that contains the messages to one adjacent node only and all port telecommunication(MLA) is to transmit messages from one node to all adjacent nodes within a time of unit. Matrix hypercube is that an interconnection network has improved network cost than that of hypercube with the same number of nodes. In this paper, we analyze broadcasting scheme of matirx hypercube. First, we propose one-to-all and all-to-all broadcasting algorithms of matrix hypercube. And we prove that one-to-all broadcasting times are 2n+1 and $2{\lceil}{\frac{n}{2}}{\rceil}+1$ based on the SLA and MLA models, respectively. Also, we show all-to-all broadcasting time using SLA model is $5{\times}2^{\frac{n}{2}}-2$ when n=even, and is $5{\times}2^{\frac{n-1}{2}}+2$ when n=odd.

Inverse Telecine by Using Frequency Analysis (주파수 분석을 통한 인버스 텔레시네 기법)

  • When a cinema being composed of 24 frames/sec is converted to NTSC video or TV program, several fields we repeated to have 60 fields/sec, which is called the telecine or 3:2 pull-down. Hence, when encoding the telecine NTSC video into MPEG format, if we convert it into the original 24 frames/sec Progressive cinema, then we can save 20% of bits compared to the case of encoding all the 60 fields. In this Paper, we propose an algorithm for performing the inverse telecine by using the properties of the frames. Specifically, the algorithm exploits the fact that there Is much Inconsistency between the even and odd fields in the case of telecine frame, which results in high magnitude at the Nyquist frequency In the vertical direction. The experiment shows that the proposed algorithm performs very well regardless of the quality of video with a very few computations, whereas the conventional motion based method requires much computational complexity and its performance is degraded when the video is of low (eg. VHS) quality.

Differential Spatial Modulation with Gray Coded Antenna (그레이 코드화된 안테나 순서의 차등 공간 변조)

  • In this paper, we propose a gray code order of antenna index permutations for differential spatial modulation (DSM). To facilitate the implementation, the well-known Trotter-Johnson ranking and unranking algorithms are adopted, which result in similar computational complexity to the existing DSM that uses the lexicographic order. The signal-to-noise ratio gain achieved by the proposed gray code order over the lexicographic order is also analyzed and verified via simulations. Based on the gray coding framework, we further propose a diversity-enhancing scheme named intersected gray (I-gray) code order, where the permutations of active antenna indices are selected directly from the odd (or even) positions of the full permutations in the gray code order. From analysis and simulations, it is shown that the I-gray code order can harvest an additional transmit diversity order with respect to the gray code order.
