  • Seakeeping safety module in Korean e-Navigation system is one of the ship remote monitoring services that is employed to ensure the safety of ships by monitoring the ship's real time performance and providing a warning in advance when the abnormal conditions are encountered in seakeeping performance. In general, seakeeping performance has been evaluated by simulating ship motion analysis under specific conditions for its design. However, due to restriction of computation time, it is not realistic to perform simulations to evaluate seakeeping performance under real-time operation conditions. This study aims to introduce a reasonable and faster method to predict a ship's roll motion which is one of the factors used to evaluate a ship's seakeeping performance by using a machine learning-based surrogate model. Through the application of various learning techniques and sampling conditions on training data, it was observed that the difference of roll motion between a given surrogate model and motion analysis was within 1%. Therefore, it can be concluded that this method can be useful to evaluate the seakeeping performance of a ship in real-time operation.

  • According to IMO, MASS is defined as a vessel operated at various levels independent of human interference. The safety navigation support service for MASS is designed to improve the safety and efficiency of MASS by developing public services on shore for ship arrivals/departures and for cargo handling. The safety navigation support service consists of a total of six types of services: autonomous operation, berthing/unberthing/mooring, cargo handling and ship arrival/departure service, PSC inspection, condition monitoring, and accident response support services. In order to support accident response service, the relative importance of a bridge navigational equipment was assessed by stratifying the navigation system to provide safe and efficient support services by objective judgment through specific and quantitative methods using AHP, one of decision-making methods used by an expert group. The survey was conducted by dividing the bridge navigational equipment into depth, location, and speed information. As a result of applying the AHP method, the importance of depth, location, and speed information was assessed. The relative importance of each equipment for providing location information was also assessed in order of Radar, DGPS, ECDIS, Gyro compass, Autopilot, and AIS. This was similar to survey results on the utilization of each operator's preference and its impact on marine accidents.

  • Korea has very strong shipbuilding industry in the world, so many new ships are constructed in Korean shipyards. These built vessels are carrying out sea trial at sea before delivering to shipowner, and sea trial ships cause navigation risk to other passing vessels to accomplish sea trial tests as quick turning, zigzag maneuvering and crash astern etc. in traffic congestion conditions. It occurred more than 1 collision accident related sea trial for recent 5 years. It has been increased about 30% of risk because of navigation of sea trial vessel by marine traffic flow simulation. This paper analyzed marine traffic density surveyed by AIS data for 7 days, and investigated position of marine accidents for 5 years in Korean coastal waterway, it established the sea trial prohibition areas as 10/100 level of total marine traffic volume, which is considered no danger for ship operator. This analyzed maritime safety law for setting of the prohibition waters to propose the basic legal system. It makes contribution to marine pollution prevention by setting of the sea trial prohibition water to improve the ship's navigation safety.

  • Launch and recovery system(LARS) is required to perform an USV-based underwater exploration. Through the analysis of the requirements according to the scenario of underwater exploration, the mechanism of LARS and the conceptual design of the mechanical parts of LARS are carried out. In addition, a USV motion can be induced due to environmental disturbances such as waves, so the detailed design of LARS for recovering the underwater tow-fish stably in consideration of the USV motion is performed. To verify the performance of launch and recovery operations, LARS and test bed were developed. The results show that the proposed LARS can stably launch and recovery an underwater tow-fish.

  • IHO S-57 is the standard intended to be used for the exchange of digital hydrographic data between hydrographic offices, and for the distribution of hydrographic data to manufacturers. mariners and other data users. But it was primarily developed to meet the ENC requirement called for in an IMG-compliant ECDIS. As presently structured, it cannot support .future requirements such as gridded bathymetry or time-varying information. To improve this limitations, IHO is developing new digital hydrographic standard, S-100. In this paper, we analyze the S-100 standards and propose the method for development of digital hydrographic data according to S-100.
