  • We collected references on South Pacific Studies from several resources: mainly internet resources and periodicals. Internet resources include associations, organizations and societies; cultural resources; environmental issues; government data; information resources; journals and news letters; libraries, archives, publishers; news sources; other sources; regional issues; selected full text documents and digital resources; and statistics. Periodicals include news and popular interest magazines; regional magazines and general interest publications; and scholarly and professional journals.

항해지원을 위한 해양환경정보 실시간 예보시스템 개발 (Development of Real-Time Forecasting System of Marine Environmental Information for Ship Routing)

  • 대양을 운항하는 선박의 최적 항로계획 수립에 중요한 해양환경정보를 실시간으로 예보하는 시스템(MEIS)을 개발하였다. 예보정보는 위성관측 대양환경 자료를 기반으로 유럽중기기후예보센터가 처리한 실시간 자료를 바탕으로 하며, 장기 관측자료 데이터베이스에 근거한 통계적 정보와 함께 제공된다. MEIS시스템은 육상 기지국에 설치되어 해양환경정보를 취득하고 처리하는 육상자료처리시스템(MEIS-Center)과 선박에 탑재되어 가공된 해양환경정보를 화상으로 구현하고 최적항로 선정을 돕는 선박탑재화상구현시스템(MEIS-Ship)으로 구성되며, 운항중인 선박과 육상기지국간의 정보 송수신을 위한 위성통신 시스템을 활용한다. 해양환경 요소는 바람, 파랑, 기압, 폭풍을 포함하며, 바람은 풍향과 풍속 정보를 제공하고, 파랑은 너울과 풍파로 구분하여 파고, 파향, 파주기 정보를 제공할 수 있다. 실시간 정보는 0.5°해상도로 5시간 간격의 10일 예보치가 매일 제공되며, 통계적 정보는 1.5° 해상도의 15년 관측자료를 이용하여 월평균 및 재현주기별 최대값이 산정된다. MEIS-Ship은 항로 시뮬레이션 기능을 제공하며, 설정된 항로에 대해 예보 및 통계적 해양환경정보를 그림 또는 표의 형태로 제공한다. MEIS는 예정 항로상의 정확한 실시간 해양환경 예보를 제공하므로 선박운항자가 항로의 위험도와 운항경제성을 고려하여 최적 항로를 선정하는 것이 가능하다.

  • This paper seeks to provide a dynamic analysis of a 150 ton winch based on ocean environmental data. The winch model that was subjected to analysis was modeled from CAD to each subsystem by the commercial software DAFUL. The winch model has tree brake systems (disk brake, band brake and ratchet brake). The rotation motion of the motor and contact elements of the brake are applied to the winch model in order to analyze its dynamic characteristics. In addition, a crane-barge was modeled to apply ocean environmental data. The motion data of the crane-barge was produced by means of the RAO(Response Amplitude Operator) of the barge and wave spectrum. The reaction force of the translational joint was measured instead of the tension of the cable. The brake performance of the winch was produced and assessed based on the operating motion of the crane-barge.

해양기상부이와 표류부이에서 관측된 유의파고 및 파주기 비교 분석 (Comparative Analysis of Significant Wave Height and Wave Period Observed from Ocean Data and Drifting Buoys)

  • In this study, the significant wave height and wave period of a specially designed observation system that connected two drifting buoys to an ocean data buoy was observed for 23 days from February 7 to 29, 2020, and the results were compared and analyzed. The results indicated that, in comparison to the ocean data buoy, the drifting buoy exhibited greater variability in significant wave height over shorter time intervals. The wave period of the ocean data buoy also appeared longer than that of the drifting buoy. The greater the observed significant wave height and wave period from both the ocean data and drifting buoys, the more pronounced the differences between the two observation instruments become. Moreover, the study revealed that the disparity in observation methods between the ocean data and drifting buoys did not significantly affect the significant wave height characteristics, as long as the period remained unchanged for up to half of the observation time.

해양 산성화 및 수온 상승 환경에서의 전복치패(Haliotis discus hannai)의 생존 및 성장 (Survival and Growth in Juvenile Abalone Haliotis discus hannai to Ocean Acidification and Elevated Temperature)

  • The increasing of atmospheric $CO_2$ are changing the pH (ocean acidification) and temperature of the sea. Although the effects of ocean acidification on calcifying organisms have well-documented, only a few studies have examined the combined effects of ocean acidification and elevated temperature. This study investigated the effects of ocean acidification and elevated temperature for 2100 on survival and growth of juvenile abalone, Haliotis discus hannai. Ocean acidification was simulated by bubbling $CO_2$ into seawater at concentrations of 1,000 and 1,500 ppm, and temperature was set at room temperature $+2^{\circ}C$. Neither $CO_2$ nor temperature had a significant effect on survival of abalone, while both significantly affected growth. There was no significant interaction between the two factors. Shell length can be used as a growth index of abalone to access the impacts of ocean acidification and elevated temperature.

가연성 해양폐기물 열분해 특성에 대한 연구 (A Study on Development of a Pyrolysis Characteristics for Combustible Ocean waste)

  • Recently environmental pollution at sea becomes serious, so every governmental organization makes its effort to solve this problem. Combustible ocean wastes as of ropes, fishing nets, and tires are usually highly polymerized compound materials. The problem of ocean waste treatment can be solved by using the pyrolysis method. Pyrolysis characteristics of ocean waste was examined to get the basic data for the production system of fuel from the ocean waste. Thermogravimetric experiment showed that residual mass rate decreases as the velocity of temperature-rising becomes lower. The pyrolysis of waste rope and fishing net occurs at 300~450$^{\circ}C $ and the waste tire does at 350~450$^{\circ}C $. Pyrolysis time is estimated about 15 to 20 minutes in the temperature range when lively act of pyrolysis temperature reached.

  • This paper deals with the network interface of research and observation instruments in the oceanographic research vessel with an establishment of related database for measured information. The system is implemented to integrated communication network system which allows to effective survey by using real time observation and GUI(Graphic User Interface). The system also consists of the LAN systems and serial interface to link chemical, physical, biological and environmental relations. And, other network service and vessel data service for data communication between vessel and earth station such as INMARSAT-B, WWW service, BBS, E-Mail etc., are needed for integrated communication network system.

Study on the heat and mass transfer in ultrasonic assisting vacuum membrane distillation

  • An ultrasonic assisting vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) system was designed to promote the heat and mass transfer in membrane distillation (MD) process. Both the effects of operating conditions and ultrasonic parameters to permeation flux in this process were investigated; the heat and mass transfer mechanism was also being discussed in this paper. The results showed that the performance of VMD process was improved significantly by ultrasonic assisting. The permeation flux was boosted at a certain feed solution temperature, pressure at permeate side and feed solution velocity whether or not to PP and PTFE. The results also indicated that ultrasonic power and frequency also was the key factor affecting the mass and transfer efficiencies. The feed side transfer coefficient ($K_f$), corresponding to ultrasonic power ($K_f=4.406-0.026{\times}P+7.824{\times}10^{-5}{\times}P^2$) and ultrasonic frequency ($K_f=0.941+0.598{\times}f-0.012{\times}f^2+6.283{\times}10^{-5}f^3$), was obtained and employed in the modeling of ultrasonic assisting VMD process. The modeling results showed that the calculated value of $K_f$ aligned with experimental results well. Both variations of temperature polarization coefficient (TPC) and concentration polarization coefficient (CPC) were studied based on the obtained data. The results showed that both TPC and CPC were improved obviously by the ultrasonic parameters.

매개 중심성을 이용한 해양 플라스틱 폐기물의 경로 예측 및 효율적인 수거지점 제안 (Path Prediction and Suggestion of Efficient Collection Points for Marine Plastic Debris Based on Betweenness Centrality Analysis)

  • 우리나라에서 플라스틱으로 인한 해양오염이 심각함에도 불구하고 경로 예측 및 수거 방안에 대한 연구는 찾아보기 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 미국 해양대기청(National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA)의 해양 표층해류 시뮬레이터(Ocean Surface CURrent Simulator, OSCURS)를 이용하여 2004년부터 2013년까지 계절별로 동 서해로 유입된 플라스틱 폐기물의 이동 경로를 예측하였고, 매개 중심성 분석을 통하여 효율적인 수거지점을 제안하였다. 효율적인 수거지점의 대부분이 계절과 상관없이 연안에 형성되었고, 그중에서도 동해는 울진 연안, 서해는 새만금-신안 연안이 플라스틱 폐기물을 효율적으로 수거할 수 있는 지역이었다.
