  • Geological survey on the occurrence of copper oxide in Suparaura area around Abancay in the south-central part of Peru had been carried out. Geology of the area is composed of granitoids such as granodiorite, tonalite and andesitic porphyry related to Tertiary igneous activity, Ferrobamba formation with Cretaceous limestone and sandstone in descending order. Red sandstone is widely distributed and emplaced with their attitude of $N70^{\circ}W$ strike and $60^{\circ}NE$ dip. Copper oxides were mineralized along the bedding plane of red sandstone with maximum width of 30 cm. Ore-body structure bounding red sandstone strata have different occurrence characteristics with generally known porphyry system in terms of alteration, mineral assemblage and occurrence mode. Therefore, it is thought to be stratiform sediment-hosted copper (SSC) deposits genetically corresponding to Mississippi-valley type from preliminary study.

  • For the efficient image retrieval, the method has studied that uses color distribution and relations between pixels. This paper presents the color descriptor that stands high above the others in image retrieval capacity. It is based on color co-occurrence histogram that the diagonal part and the non-diagonal part are attached the weight and modified to energy of color co-occurrence histogram, and the number of bins with petty worth have little influence is curtailed. It's verified by analysis that the diagonal part carries size information of homogeneous color region and the non-diagonal part does information about the coherence of it, Moreover the non-diagonal part is more influential than diagonal part in survey of similarity between images. So, the non-diagonal part is attached more weight than the diagonal part as a result of the research. The experiments validate that the proposed descriptor shows better image retrieval performance when the weight for non-diagonal part is set to the value between 0.7 and 0.9.

  • This study has been conducted to provide the basic materials about the occurrence structures, causes and choice of treatments of the traffic accident offenders' PTSD(Posttraumatic Stress Disorder). The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, accident offenders', not victims', PTSD conditions, which has been only estimated until now, are measured by nationwide questioning survey. Second, accident offenders' changes of driving attitude after accidents could be typed by factors analysis in the 20 driving situations closely connected to the occurrence of traffic accidents. Third, by the t-test, the difference of driving attitudes in primary driving situations according to existence of PTSD is distinguished. Six driving situations, which are found significant by t-test, are applied to structural equation. So the variables related to PTSD and the models which analyze the attitude changes of driving are constructed. This study provides the basic materials to help the reduction and prevention of the occurrence of PTSD.

  • Our purpose is to ascertain, if possible, whether atomic bomb survivors with cataracts and epilation were more radiosensitive than those survivors with cataracts but without epilation. A major ophthalmologic survey was conducted in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1963-64. At that time, 2125 individuals were examined. Among these individuals, estimated eye organ doses, based on the DS86 dosimetry system, and information on the occurrence of epilation within the first 60 days following the bombings are available on 1742. In the analysis of these data we have assumed that each individual represents a sample of one from a binomial distribution, and that the occurrence of cataracts and epilation are independent biological phenomena. We got following results. The threshold for cataract induction and its 95% confidence limits have been estimated from data on the occurrence of cataract and epilation. Among the 1742 study subjects, 40 had both cataracts and severe epilation. The estimated threshold based on these cases is 0.98 sievert(Sv), with 95% lower and upper confidence bounds of 0.72, and 1.32 Sv, respectively, and is highly statistically significant. Among the 27 cases of cataracts where severe epilation was not reported, the estimated threshold is 1.74 Sv with 95% lower and upper confidence bounds of 1.21 Sv, and "not estimable". The difference between these two estimates is not statistically significant although the effect of dose is highly significant in both instances. The potential importance of biases in the DS86 dose estimates is discussed. The difference between the threshold estimated from cataract cases with epilation and that from cases without epilation is not statistically significant at the 5% or 10% level, and thus affords no support for the notion of increased radiosensitivity.

  • This study was conducted to understand the seasonal patterns and variation of the copepod community in the Anma Islands of Yeonggwang, Yellow Sea, with a focus on seasonal surveys to assess the factors affecting their occurrence. Throughout the survey period, Acartia hongi, Paracalanus parvus s. l., and Ditrichocorycaeus affinis were dominant species, while Acartia ohtsukai, Acartia pacifica, Bestiolina coreana, Centropages abdominalis, Labidocera rotunda, Paracalanus sp., Tortanus derjugini, Tortanus forcipatus occurred differently by season and station. As a results of cluster analysis, the copepod communities were distinguished into three distinct groups: spring-winter, summer, and autumn. The results of this study showed that the occurrence patterns of copepod species can vary depending on environmental conditions (topographic, distance from the inshore, etc.), and their spatial occurrence patterns between seasons were controlled by water temperature and prey conditions. One of the physical mechanisms that can affect the distribution of zooplankton in the Yellow Sea is the behavior of the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water (YSBCW), which shows remarkable seasonal fluctuations. More detailed further studies are needed for clear grounds for mainly why to many Calanus sinicus in the central region of the Yellow Sea are seasonally moving to the inshore, what strategies to seasonally maintain the population, and support the possibilities of complex factors.

  • Background: Diabetes is accompanied by complications. One of the chronic complications, diabetic retinopathy is the most common cause of the loss of eyesight and thus has enormous impacts on the quality of life to the patients. It has been reported that thorough glucose regulation can prevent or postpone the outset of diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients and that the patients who received anti-diabetic manage & care education would be capable of more thorough glucose-level regulation than those who did not. Method: This study set out to investigate the current state of education on anti-diabetic manage & care in South Korea and connections between anti-diabetic manage & care education and occurrence of diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of 2011. Results: Of the 410 diabetes patients, 74 received anti-diabetic manage & care education, which means that only 15% of diabetic patients benefited from the education in the nation. The occurrence rate of diabetic retinopathy was 28% in the education group and 24% in the non-education group with no significant differences between them. The anti-diabetic manage & care education group recorded a higher occurrence rate of diabetic retinopathy, one of the chronic diabetic complications, than the non-education group contrary to the hypothesis. One of the reasons was that the educated group had a significantly longer duration of diabetes and significantly higher HbA1c than the noneducated group, which indicates that anti-diabetic manage & care education is provided to those who have progressed farther along the course of diabetes instead of the early stage and cannot regulate their glucose-level well in the nation. Conclusion: Those findings raise a need for active educational policies in order to provide anti-diabetic manage & care education under the goals of preventing complications through anti-diabetic education for many patients in early stages of diabetes.

  • Monthly monitoring, 3D scan survey, and electrical resistivity survey were conducted from January 2018 to August 2022 to identify the cause of rockfall occurring in Daljeon-ri Columnar Joint (Natural Monument No. 415), Pohang. A total of 3,231 rocks fell from the columnar joint over the past 5 years, and 1,521 (47%) of the falling rocks were below 20 cm in length, 978 (30.3%) of 20-30 cm, and 732 (22.7%) of rocks over 30 cm. While the number of rockfalls by year has decreased since 2018, the frequency of rockfalls bigger than 30 cm tends to increase. Large-scale rockfalls occurred mainly during the thawing season (March-April) and the rainy season (June-July), and the analysis of the relationship between cumulative rainfall and rockfall occurrence showed that cumulative rainfall for 3 to 4 days is also closely related to the occurrence of rockfall. Smectite and illite, which are expansible clay minerals, were observed in XRD analysis of the slope material (filling minerals) in the columnar joint, and the presence of a fault fracture zone was confirmed in the electrical resistivity survey. In addition, the confirmed fault fracture zone and the maximum erosion point analyzed through 3D precision measurement coincided with the main rockfall occurrence point observed by the BTC-6PXD camera. Therefore, the main cause of rockfall at Daljeon-ri columnar joint in Pohang is a combination of internal factors (development of fault fracture zones and joints, weathering of rocks, presence of expansive clay minerals) and external factors (precipitation, rapid thawing phenomenon), resulting in large-scale rockfall. Meanwhile, it was also confirmed that the Pohang-Gyeongju earthquake, which was continuously raised, was not the main cause.

  • The survey of weed occurrence was conducted to identify problematic weed species on the paddy field. Total 524 sites of the 17 regions in Chungnam Province in Korea were investigated from June to August, 2013. In the whole region, 23 weed species were identified including 19 annuals and 4 perennials. The most dominant weed species in Chungnam paddy fields were Echinochloa crus-galli (25.3%), followed by Monochoria vaginalis (11.9%), Eleocharis kuroguwai (10.3%), Bidens tripartite (9.3%) and Aneilema japonicum (8.5%). The 95.2% of the investigation sites was determined under dominance value 1 (range of cover <10: numerous individuals) by Braun-Branquet indicating proper weed control in the paddy fields. This information could be useful for estimation of future weed occurrence, weed population dynamics and establishment of weed control methods in Chungnam Province in Korea.
