Three Dimensional Tracking of Road Signs based on Stereo Vision Technique (스테레오 비전 기술을 이용한 도로 표지판의 3차원 추적)

  • Road signs provide important safety information about road and traffic conditions to drivers. Road signs include not only common traffic signs but also warning information regarding unexpected obstacles and road constructions. Therefore, accurate detection and identification of road signs is one of the most important research topics related to safe driving. In this paper, we propose a 3-D vision technique to automatically detect and track road signs in a video sequence which is acquired from a stereo vision camera mounted on a vehicle. First, color information is used to initially detect the sign candidates. Second, the SVM (Support Vector Machine) is employed to determine true signs from the candidates. Once a road sign is detected in a video frame, it is continuously tracked from the next frame until it is disappeared. The 2-D position of a detected sign in the next frame is predicted by the 3-D motion of the vehicle. Here, the 3-D vehicle motion is acquired by using the 3-D pose information of the detected sign. Finally, the predicted 2-D position is corrected by template-matching of the scaled template of the detected sign within a window area around the predicted position. Experimental results show that the proposed method can detect and track many types of road signs successfully. Tracking comparisons with two different methods are shown.

  • Recently, there are increasing damages by ransomware in the world. Ransomware is a malicious software that infects computer systems and restricts user's access to them by locking the system or encrypting user's files saved in the hard drive. Victims are forced to pay the 'ransom' to recover from the damage and regain access to their personal files. Strong countermeasure is needed due to the extremely vicious way of attack with enormous damage. Malware analysis method can be divided into two approaches: static analysis and dynamic analysis. Recent malwares are usually equipped with elaborate packing techniques which are main obstacles for static analysis of malware. Therefore, this paper suggests a dynamic analysis method to monitor activities of ransomware. The proposed method can analyze ransomwares more accurately. The suggested method is comprised of extracting signatures of benign program, malware, and ransomware, and selecting the most appropriate signatures for ransomware detection.

A Study on the NC Embedding of Vision System for Tool Breakage Detection (공구파손감지용 비젼시스템의 NC실장에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, a vision system for detecting tool breakage which is hardly detected by such indirect in-process measurement method as acoustic emission, cutting torque and motor current was developed and embedded into a PC-NC system. The vision system consists of CMOS image sensors, a slit beam laser generator and an image grabber board. Slit beam laser was emitted on the tool surface to separate the tool geometry well from the various obstacles surrounding the tool. An image of tool is captured through two steps of signal processing, that is, median filtering and thresholding and then the tool is estimated normal or broken by use of change of the centroid of the captured image. An air curtain made by the jetting high-pressure air in front of the lens was devised to prevent the vision system from being contaminated by scattered coolant, cutting chips in cutting process. To embed the vision system to a Siemens PC-NC controller 840D NC, an HMI(Human Machine Interface) program was developed under the Windows 95 operating system of MMC103. The developed HMI is placed in a sub window of the main window of 840D and this program can be activated or deactivated either by a soft key on the operating panel or M codes in the NC part program. As the tool breakage is detected, the HMI program emit a command for automatic tool change or send alarm to the NC kernel. Evaluation test in a high speed tapping center showed the developed system was successful in detection of the small-radius tool breakage.

  • Visibility of the satellite navigation is related to a environmental condition of a receiver. Obstacles like buildings and trees in urban areas can block signals and have effects on accuracy and reliability of positioning. This paper presents a method of creating 3D analysis model of urban canyon of Seoul using three-Dimensional digital map. Analysis techniques of visible satellites with Ray-Polygon Collision Detection and validation of algorithm through field tests are discussed. We have compared and analyzed the visibility of GPS and Galileo with respect to separate and simultaneous tracking in view of DOP (Dilution of Precision) using the 3D GIS digital map.

  • This paper is about increasing transfer efficiency of wireless power transmission. The new method is proposed to detect the alignment of transmitter and receiver of wireless charger and so smart phone can display the position of wireless charging receiver on its LCD panel for the maximum charging efficiency. The previous method is only to show the transfer efficiency, but this method is to show not only the efficiency but also coordinates of receiver. The apparatus of the wireless charger is based on WPC(Wireless Power Consortium) standard and has planar air coil combined with magnet shield in Tx and Rx device so that the leakage flux is minimized on condition of under hundreds of kHz operating frequency. In this paper, it's showed that relation of magnet field and distance of each coils can be linearized and position information of Tx and Rx device is calculated thru trigonometry. Through the experiment, the obstacles of linearity are discovered and also showed that it can be optimized. and so the presented method is suitable for alignment detection method of Tx and Rx device in WPC wireless charger.

  • The intelligent excavating system(IES), the development in South Korea of which has been underway since 2006, aims for the full-scale automation of the excavation process that includes a series of tasks such as movement, excavation and loading. The core elements to ensure the quality and safety of the automated excavation equipment include 3D modeling of terrain that surrounds the excavating robot and the technology for detecting objects accurately(i.e., for detecting the location of nearby loading trucks and humans as well as of obstacles positioned on the movement paths). Therefore the purpose of this research is to ensure the quality and safety of automated excavation detecting the objects surrounding the excavating robot via a 3D laser scanning system. In this paper, an algorithm for estimating the location, height, width, and shape of objects in the 3D-realized terrain that surrounds the location of the excavator was proposed. The performance of the algorithm was verified via tests in an actual earthwork field.

DNA Extraction from Protozoan Oocysts/Cysts in Feces for Diagnostic PCR

  • PCR detection of intestinal protozoa is often restrained by a poor DNA recovery or by inhibitors present in feces. The need for an extraction protocol that can overcome these obstacles is therefore clear. $QIAamp^{(R)}$ DNA Stool Mini Kit (Qiagen) was evaluated for its ability to recover DNA from oocysts/cysts directly from feces. Twenty-five Giardia-positive, 15 Cryptosporidium-positive, 15 Entamoeba histolytica-positive, and 45 protozoa-free samples were processed as control by microscopy and immunoassay tests. DNA extracts were amplified using 3 sets of published primers. Following the manufacturer's protocol, the kit showed sensitivity and specificity of 100% towards Giardia and Entamoeba. However, for Cryptosporidium, the sensitivity and specificity were 60% (9/15) and 100%, respectively. A series of optimization experiments involving various steps of the kit's protocol were conducted using Cryptosporidium-positive samples. The best DNA recoveries were gained by raising the lysis temperature to the boiling point for 10 min and the incubation time of the InhibitEX tablet to 5 min. Also, using a pre-cooled ethanol for nucleic acid precipitation and small elution volume ($50-100{\mu}l$) were valuable. The sensitivity of the amended protocol to Cryptosporidium was raised to 100%. Cryptosporidium DNA was successfully amplified by either the first or the second primer set. When applied on parasite-free feces spiked with variable oocysts/cysts counts, ${\approx}2$ oocysts/cysts were theoretically enough for detection by PCR. To conclude, the Qiagen kit with the amended protocol was proved to be suitable for protozoan DNA extraction directly from feces and support PCR diagnosis.

  • In disease diagnostics and health surveillance, the use of saliva has potential because its collection is convenient and noninvasive. Over the past two decades, the development of salivary utilization for the early detection of cancer, especially oral cavity and oropharynx cancer has gained the interest of the researcher and clinician. Until recently, the oral cavity and oropharynx cancers are still having a five-year survival rate of 62%, one of the lowest in all major human cancers. More than 90% of oral cancers are oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Despite the ease of accessing the oral cavity in clinical examination, most OSCC lesions are not diagnosed in the early stage, which is suggested to be the main cause of the low survival rate. Many studies have been performed and reported more than 100 potential saliva biomarkers for OSCC. However, there are still obstacles in figuring out the reliable OSCC salivary biomarkers and the clinical application of the early diagnosis protocol. The current review article discusses the emerging issues and is hoped to raise awareness of this topic in both researchers and clinicians. We also suggested the potential salivary biomarkers that are reliable, specific, and sensitive for the early detection of OSCC.

Vision-based Obstacle State Estimation and Collision Prediction using LSM and CPA for UAV Autonomous Landing (무인항공기의 자동 착륙을 위한 LSM 및 CPA를 활용한 영상 기반 장애물 상태 추정 및 충돌 예측)

  • Vision-based autonomous precision landing technology for UAVs requires precise position estimation and landing guidance technology. Also, for safe landing, it must be designed to determine the safety of the landing point against ground obstacles and to guide the landing only when the safety is ensured. In this paper, we proposes vision-based navigation, and algorithms for determining the safety of landing point to perform autonomous precision landings. To perform vision-based navigation, CNN technology is used to detect landing pad and the detection information is used to derive an integrated navigation solution. In addition, design and apply Kalman filters to improve position estimation performance. In order to determine the safety of the landing point, we perform the obstacle detection and position estimation in the same manner, and estimate the speed of the obstacle using LSM. The collision or not with the obstacle is determined based on the CPA calculated by using the estimated state of the obstacle. Finally, we perform flight test to verify the proposed algorithm.

Detection of hydin Gene Duplication in Personal Genome Sequence Data

  • Human personal genome sequencing can be done with high efficiency by aligning a huge number of short reads derived from various next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies to the reference genome sequence. One of the major obstacles is the incompleteness of human reference genome. We tried to analyze the effect of hidden gene duplication on the NGS data using the known example of hydin gene. Hydin2, a duplicated copy of hydin on chromosome 16q22, has been recently found to be localized to chromosome 1q21, and is not included in the current version of standard human genome reference. We found that all of eight personal genome data published so far do not contain hydin2, and there is large number of nsSNPs in hydin. The heterozygosity of those nsSNPs was significantly higher than expected. The sequence coverage depth in hydin gene was about two fold of average depth. We believe that these unique finding of hydin can be used as useful indicators to discover new hidden multiplication in human genome.
