A Dynamic Object Detection Method for Avoiding Moving Obstacles (무인 차량의 이동 장애물 회피를 위한 동적 객체 영역 탐지 기법)

  • 무인 차량의 자율 주행을 위해 장애물 회피, 주행 가능 도로 판단 등의 기술이 연구되고 있다. 이러한 연구를 실제 환경에서의 자율 주행에 활용하기 위해서는 주변 환경에 동적으로 움직이는 장애물의 위치를 고려할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 차량에 탑재된 LIDAR로부터 획득한 포인트의 분포 변화를 이용하여 차량 주변에 동적 장애물이 존재하는 지역을 검출하는 방법을 제안한다. 해당 방법은 포인트에 대한 통계치를 활용하여 동적 객체가 존재하는 영역을 추정함으로써 동적 객체 영역을 고속으로 탐색할 수 있다.

  • In this paper, we have described the performance improvement of surveillance radar to prevent damage or malfunction of surveillance radar RF head unit due to the strong reflections caused by artificial obstacles at close range. We have proposed a technique to improve the performance of the RF head unit as a solution to overcome the limitations of the operating system and improve radar performance. We have verified the effectiveness of the improvement by comparing the before and after results applied to actual system.

  • We propose a method of using the three dimensional characteristic information to classify the front environment in travelling by using the images captured by a CCD camera equipped on a mobile robot. So, this paper proposes the method of deciding the travelling direction of a mobile robot with using input images based upon the suggested algorithm by preprocessing, and verified the validity of the image information which are detected as obstacles by the analysis through neural network.

  • The increasing popularity of autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be attributed to their wide range of applications. 3D path planning is one of the crucial components enabling autonomous flight. In this paper, we present a novel 3D path planning algorithm that generates and utilizes curvature-based trajectories. Our approach leverages circular properties, offering notable advantages. First, circular trajectories make collision detection easier. Second, the planning procedure is streamlined by eliminating the need for the spline process to generate dynamically feasible trajectories. To validate our proposed algorithm, we conducted simulations in Gazebo Simulator. Within the simulation, we placed various obstacles such as pillars, nets, trees, and walls. The results demonstrate the efficacy and potential of our proposed algorithm in facilitating efficient and reliable 3D path planning for UAVs.

Performance Evaluation, Optimal Design and Complex Obstacle Detection of an Overlapped Ultrasonic Sensor Ring (중첩 초음파 센서 링의 성능 평가, 최적 설계 및 복합 장애물 탐지)

  • This paper presents the performance evaluation. optimal design. and complex obstacle detection of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring by introducing a new concept of effective beam width. It is assumed that a set of ultrasonic sensors of the same type are arranged along a circle of nonzero radius at regular spacings with their beams overlapped. First, the global positional uncertainty of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring is expressed by the average value of local positional uncertainty over the entire obstacle detection range. The effective beam width of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring is assessed as the beam width of a single ultrasonic sensor having the same amount of global positional uncertainty, from which a normalized obstacle detection performance index is defined. Second. using the defined index, the design parameters of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring are optimized for minimal positional uncertainty in obstacle detection. For a given number of ultrasonic sensors, the optimal radius of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring is determined, and for a given radius of an overlapped ultrasonic sensor ring, the optimal number of ultrasonic sensors is determined. Third, the decision rules of positional uncertainty zone for multiple obstacle detection are provided based on the inequality relationships among obstacle distances by three adjacent ultrasonic sensors. Using the provided rules, the obstacle outline detection is performed in a rather complex environment consisting of several obstacles of different shapes.

  • Nowadays with advancement in technology and aging society, the number of disabled citizens is increasing. The disabled citizens always need a caretaker for daily life routines especially for mobility. In future, the need is considered to increase more. To reduce the burden from the disabled, various devices for healthcare are introduced using computer technology. The power wheelchair is an important and convenient mobility device. The demand of power wheelchair is increasing for assistance in mobility. In this paper we proposed a robotic wheelchair for mobility aid to reduce the burden from the disabled. The main issue in an autonomous wheelchair is the automatic detection and avoidance of obstacles and going to the pre-designated place. The proposed algorithm detects the obstacles and avoids them to drive the wheelchair to the desired place safely. By this way, the disabled will not always have to worry about paying deep attention to the surroundings and his path.

  • Driver's view has blind spot of automobile surroundings due to physical components of automobile architecture. Obstacles on blind spot are the cause of car destruction and car accidents. Cars which produced in recent have obstacle detection sensors and rear view cameras which provide information of obstacles on the blind sopt, and have also AVM(Around View Monitoring) which provides automobile surroundings for driver's safe driving. During a low-speed travel while parking or moving in a narrow street, a driver get help for safe driving by taking information of automobile surroundings using the above-mentioned devices. In this paper, we present a design and implementation of a 4-sided monitoring (4SM) system, which helps a driver see an integrated view of a vehicle's perimeter at a glance, using a car PC connected to four cameras installed on the front, rear, left, and right sides.

  • This paper deals with the method of using the three dimensional characteristic information to classify the front environment in travelling by using the images captured by a CCD camera equipped on a mobile robot. The images detected by the three dimensional characteristic information is divided into the part of obstacles, the part of corners, and th part of doorways in a corridor. In designing the travelling path of a mobile robot, these three situations are used as an important information in the obstacle avoidance and optimal path computing.   • An Obstacle Avoidance System(OAS) of Underwater Vehicle(UV) in diving and steering plane is investigated. The concept of Imaginary Reference Line(IRL), which acts as the seabed in the diving plane, is introduced to apply the diving plane avoidance algorithm to the steering plane algorithm. Furthermore, the distance to the obstacle and the slope information of the obstacle are used for more efficient and safer avoidance. As for the control algorithm, the sliding mode controller is adopted to consider the nonlinearity of the equations of motion and to get the robustness of the designed system. To verify the obstacle avoidance ability of the designed system, numerical simulations are carried out on the cases of some presumed three-dimensional obstacles. The effects of the sonar and the clearance factor used in avoidance algorithm are also investigated. Through these, it is found that the designed avoidance system can successfully cope with various obstacles and the detection range of sonar is proven to bea significant parameter to the performance of the avoidance.

Reminder module design to prevent collision accidents while wearing HMD (HMD 착용 중의 충돌 사고 방지를 위한 알리미 모듈 설계)

  • Virtual reality content provides users with a high sense of immersion by using HMD devices. However, while wearing the HMD device, it is difficult to determine the user's location or distance from obstacles, resulting in injuries due to physical collisions. In this paper, we propose a reminder module to prevent accidents by notifying the risk of collision with obstacles while wearing the HMD device. The proposed module receives the user's state from the acceleration and gyro sensor and determines the motion that is likely to cause a collision. If there is an obstacle in the expected collision range, a buzzer sounds to the wearer. As a result of the experiment, the accuracy of obstacle detection in the state of wearing the HMD was 86.6% in the 1st stage and 83.3% in the 2nd stage, confirming the performance of the accident prevention reminder.
