  • In this paper, we propose core and edge router architectures with LPI(Low Power Idle) for reducing energy consumption in OBS networks. The proposed core router architecture is comprised of a BCP switch, a burst switch, line cards and sleep/wake controller for LPI. When the offered load of network is low, sleep/wake controller can change the state of the core router line card from active to sleep state for saving the energy after receiving network control packet. The edge router consists of a switch for access line card, a SCU and OBS edge router line cards. The LPI function in edge router line card is performed through network level control by network control packet, individually. Additionally, PHY/transceiver modules can transition active state to sleep state when burst assemble engine generates new bursts. To evaluate the energy saving performance of proposed architecture with LPI, the power consumption of each router is analyzed by using data sheet of commercial router and optical device. And, simulation is also performed in terms of sleep time of PHY/Transceiver through OPNET.

  • Optical Burst Switching (OBS) technology has drawn much attention as a promising solution for IP/WDM networks. OBS has the features such as the offset time, the delayed reservation and the burst assembly. In particular, the burst assembly, which assembles IP packets into the data bursts, has a great impact on the performance of OBS network. In this paper, we compare the performance of three different burst assembly schemes and investigate their impact on the performance of OBS network.

  • Skin serves as an easily accessible source of multipotent stem cells with potential for cellular therapies. In pigs, stem cells from skin tissues of fetal and adult origins have been demonstrated as either floating spheres (cell aggregates) or adherent spindle-shaped mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-like cells depending on culture conditions. The cells isolated from the epidermis and dermis of porcine skin showed plastic adherent growth in the presence of serum and positively expressed a range of surface and intracellular markers that are considered to be specific for MSCs. The properties of primitive stem cells have been observed with the expression of alkaline phosphatase and markers related to pluripotency. Further, studies have shown the ability of skin-derived MSCs to differentiate in vitro along mesodermal, neuronal and germ-line lineages. Moreover, preclinical studies have also been performed to assess their in vivo potential, and the findings appear to be effective in tissue regeneration at the defected site after transplantation. The present review describes the recent progress on the biological features of porcine skin-derived MSCs as adherent cells, and summarizes their potential in advancing stem cell based therapies.

  • We propose the novel optical burst switching scheme to guarantee a minimum bandwidth for multiple classes. To date, QoS studies on OBS network are capable of differentiating two classes, but have difficulties in providing a minimum bandwidth lot several classes because of lower classes' collision with the highest class bursts in the networks. To solve that problem, in our proposed scheme we assign time zones in a data channel for each class periodically, making one burst have top priority at least its zone. Also, the new burst assembling algorithm, as well as the way of managing data channel, is necessarily proposed to coordinate with the proposed OBS scheme. Through the evaluation, we show that the worst-case end-to-end delay is small enough and the received bandwidth of the lower classes is still assured regardless of the traffic load of the highest class.

  • The separated management and operation of commercial IP/optical multilayer networks makes network operators look for a unified control plane (UCP) to reduce their capital and operational expenditure. Software-defined networking (SDN) provides a central control plane with a programmable mechanism, regarded as a promising UCP for future optical networks. The general control and scheduling mechanism in SDN-based optical burst switching (OBS) networks is insufficient so the controller has to process a large number of messages per second, resulting in low network resource utilization. In view of this, this paper presents the burst-flow scheduling mechanism (BFSM) with a proposed scheduling algorithm considering channel usage. The simulation results show that, compared with the general control and scheduling mechanism, BFSM provides higher resource utilization and controller performance for the SDN-based OBS network in terms of burst loss rate, the number of messages to which the controller responds, and the average latency of the controller to process a message.

  • Pseudo-first order rate constants $k_{obs}$ were determined for the reactions of naphthalenesulfonyl chlorides (1-NSC and 2-NSC) and anilines. The second order rate constant $k_2$ and third order catalytic $k_3$ were then determined from $k_{obs}$. For 1-NSC peri-hydrogen effect was observed. The large Brønsted ${\beta}$ and large negative slopes ${\rho}$ for the Hammett plots were obtained. These results with the unsually low values of activation parameters were consistent with the $S_AN$-elimination mechanism, but these can be equally well interpreted with the associative $S_N2$mechanism.

  • Optical Internet consists of IP domain and optical (WDM) domain, where the wavelength routing (WR) and optical burst switching (OBS) are the promising switching technologies in the optical domain. In this paper, we perform the simulations on the WR network and the OBS network, and compare their performances. It is verified from our simulations that the OBS network performs better than the WR network when the same network resources are given.

  • In optical burst switching(OBS) networks, the ingress edge router assembles packets in the same class queue into the appropriate size of burst. A burst control packet(BCP) is generated for channel reservation of corresponding data burst and sent earlier than the corresponding data burst with an offset time. Offset time is determined considering the number of hops from source to destination and the required quality of service(QoS). After offset time, the burst data is passed through tile pre-configured optical switches without any O/E/O conversion. But a failure in OBS networks may lead to the loss of bursts until the ingress nodes receive the failure indication signal. This results in a significant degradation in QoS. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a fault-tolerant node architecture based on sub-carrier multiplexing to reduce the effects of failure in OBS networks. The Performance of the proposed fault-tolerant node architecture exhibits considerable improvement as compared with the previous ones.

  • In OBS (Optical Burst Switching) networks which decouple the burst from its header, the fault of a fiber link can lead to the failure of all the light-path that traverses the fiber. Because each light-path is expected to operate at a rate of a few Gbps by using WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology, any failure may lead to large data loss. Therefore, an efficient recovery scheme must be provided. In this paper, we analyze network utilization and BCP (Burst Control Packet) loss rate according to each link failure by applying the conventional restoration schemes in OBS networks. And through these simulation results, an ASPR scheme is proposed improve the fault management scheme in terms of recovery time and throughput. Finally, We compare the performance of our proposed scheme with that of the conventional one with respect to burst loss rate, resource utilization and throughput by OPNET simulations.

  • We need water equivalent unit data of snowfall for the purpose of forecast and hydrology related research area. This study developed new method of automatic recording snowfall as weight unit with circle type plate using stain-gauge loadcell. Field test of instrument carried out at Daegwallyeong Obs. Station from 20 to 23 Jan. 2008 during heavy snowfall. There is 74.2cm snow depth and 54.6mm precipitation by Daegwallyeong Obs. Station. But the instrument of this study recorded 71.0mm of precipitation amount. Because of different observation method can cause more 15.4mm than Daegwallyeong Obs. Station. But this study gives the possibility of observation of new snow fall measurement under freezing conditions of snow. From the observation data the density of snowfall calculated from 0.09 to $1015g/cm_3$ from the observation period. And have a good relations between manual observation and automatic observation data from this study instrument with slope of 1.35 to 1.39.
