  • In order to satisfy the needs of an intelligent information system, it is necessary to have more intelligent query processing in an object-oriented database. In this paper, we present a method to apply intelligent query processing in object-oriented databases using deductive approach. Using this method, we generate intelligent answers to represent the answer-set abstractly for a given query in object-oriented databases. Our approach consists of few stages: rule representation, rule reformation pre-resolution, and resolution. In rule representation, a set of deductive rules is generated based on an object-oriented database schema. In rule reformation, we eliminate the recursion in rules. In pre-resolution, rule transformation is done to get unique intensional literals. In resolution, we use SLD-resolution to generate intensional answers.

  • In this paper, we present an abstract object-oriented plat-form model .suitable for the real-time distributed telecommunication system. The proposed platform is constructed upon the extended version of the real-time, distributed operating system, SROS(Scalable Real-time Operating System), that is developed at ETRI and successfully operated in the ATM switching system for several years. The object-oriented software development and maintenance methodology will resolve the current software crisis in the area of telecommunication and switching systems due to the everlasting maintenance about the huge amount of the existing software and the ever increasing needs for the better and new communication services. In general, an object-oriented software platform realizes the object-oriented methodology and possesses many good aspects like high productivity, better reusability, easy maintenance, et at. The platform is also designed to present the distributed multimedia service in addition to real-time event delivery. Recently, we have been implementing a couple of prototype bated on the proposed platform. Reflecting the evaluation results from these prototypes, the final platform specification will be determined.

  • In this paper, the modeling capabilities of an object-oriented simulator, AgvTalk is demonstrated by designing and simulating a conceptually configuration of AGV systems, known as the tandem configuration. The characteristics and design methodology in AgvTalk are described between the tandem configuration for AGV systems and conventional AGV systems. Also, simulation between the conventional AGV system and its corresponding tandem AGV system are compared with AgvTalk in the job shop environment. From the simulation results, the characteristics of each system observed are discussed.

  • The object-oriented methods are being rapidly accepted as the solution for the software crisis. Object-oriented systems are composed of the integration of independent object modules; their merits are such that it is possible to reuse objects already developed, and that, when changes are required, modifications are restricted to some independent objects such that their affects to other objects are so little. In this paper, we deal with the macro assembler for next-generation microprocessors which has the merits of object methods. Whenever a microprocessor is newly developed, new assembler should be developed or the existing assembler be modified. In the former, it leads to the loss of time and money by the repeated developments, and, in the latter, it causes the problem of inefficient productivity since other modules are to be analyzed for the affections followed by modifications of one module, especially in the existing assemblers. To resolve these problems, the object-oriented macro assembler suggested in this paper consists of independent objects separable such that it shows reusability and reduces the inefficient productivity by minimizing the affects to other objects. Moreover, the object-oriented macro assembler integrates a macro pre-processor into an assembler, and uses automata for analyzing input streams to reduce the compile time.

  • One important question that arises when dealing with temporal databases in context of object-oriented systems is the method that associates time with attributes relationship semantics. Results of previous work about attribute versioning, particularity extending flat(First Normal Form: FNF) or nested(Non-First Normal Form: NFNF) relational models. are not applicable to temporal object-oriented databases. This is because object-oriented models provide more powerful constructs than traditional models for structuring complex objects. Therefore, this paper presents an formal approach for incorporating temporal extension to object-oriented databases. Our goal in this paper is to study temporal object-oriented database representation according to generalization, aggregation and association among objects. We define tile concepts of attribute versioning in temporal object-oriented model, and we concentrate on the representation of temporal relationship among objects. Another contribution of this paper is to specify time constraints on relationship semantics and analyze our model based on representation criteria. By means of formalizing tile temporal object oriented model, this paper can not only provide tile robust operating functions that design algebraic operators, but also entrance the reuse of modules.

  • The various kinds of object-oriented methodology were provided for the development of flexible software. However, they do not automatically make the reusable and robust Object-Oriented software systems. The Object-Oriented mechanism is simply used as the means to obtain the aim. We have heard many complaints from the developers that methods did not give concrete design guidance. Methodologists' effort and make reusable information in the design phase. The relation between the Object-Oriented methods and the design patterns is mutually complementary, and they play a role as a valuable design guidance in the development of the Object-Oriented system. This paper show the interaction between OMT which is most well-known in the Object-Oriented Methodology and Facade, Mediator and Observer designed by Gamma. We suggest the clear solution for concrete design knowledge and reusability of them by applying design patterns to Object-Oriented Methodology.

  • Family policy and parents support policy are similar in that they are both object-oriented, not function-oriented. An object-oriented policy, different from a function-oriented policy, is demander-oriented in that it combines the existing policies from the object-perspective. Parents support policy and family policy are very similar in that they are both object-oriented policies and emphasize the perspective of the demanders: the parents and family. As is the case for all policies, if the ministries concerned with the policies are different, the projects are promoted from different delivery systems, so it is difficult to link them together. However, it is essential to relate the two policies because a partnership between families and schools, the subjects of the policy, is the basis of healthy family and a healthy society. Therefore, this research analyzes the current family policy and parents support policy, and examines the necessity and possibility of relating the two policies. This analysis is meaningful in that it seeks consilience between the policy areas, and seeks a new demander-oriented paradigm construction system.

  • This paper presents an object -oriented simulation approach. AgvTalk, to design and analze AGV system configuration and control. Smalltalk-80 is used as an implementation language in AgvTalk. AgvTalk includes 25 object classes and more than 300 object methods in its library. Compared to general purpose simulation languages. AgvTalk provides several important benefits. First, the hierarchical features and modularity create possibilities for the extension and reuse of simulation object components. This extensibility and reusability provide more flexible modeling capabilities for simulation of many alternative AGV systems. Second, detailed behavior of each object in the AGV system can be modeled easily and exactly in AgvTalk because there are no limiting modeling constructs. Third, AgvTalk provides a user -friendly simulation modeling environment through the MVC -triad of Smalltalk-80.

  • We discuss development of a simulator for automated manufacturing systems (AMSs) which have sophisticated automated material handling equipments and complicated work flows. The simulator is designed to satisfy the following requirements. A user should be able to easily configure or specify an AMS through a graphical user interface (GUI) and minimal data input. The user should be able to model diverse and complied control logic for automated material handling systems like automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems, robot workcell systems and conveyor systems as well as complicated job flow program. Real time animation is desired. Finally, the simulator should be easily maintained and extended. To satisfy the requirements, we use an object-oriented paradigm for modeling, designing, and programming of the simulator. We use an object-oriented modeling framework to design the modeling elements library, and take the process interaction approach for scheduling processes and events. To model a user-defined diverse control logic, we also develop a script language and its interpreter. We explain design and implementation strategies. We implement the simulator using Visual C++ 4.2 and Open GL on Windows NT and the Windows95. Some modeling examples will be demonstrated.
