  • Video object segmentation is one of the core technologies for content-based real-time MPEG-4 encoding system. For real-time requirement, the segmentation algorithm should be fast and accurate but almost all existing algorithms are computationally intensive and not suitable for real-time applications. The MPEG-4 VM(Verification Model) has provided basic algorithms for MPEG-4 encoding but it has many limitations in practical software development, real-time camera input system and compression efficiency. In this paper, we implemented the preprocessing system for real-time camera input and VOP extraction for content-based video coding and also implemented motion detection to achieve the 180 : 1 compression rate for real-time and high compression MPEG-4 encoding.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to search the evidence such as a knife found in the crime scene based on GHT from an image database Such objects like knives are simitar in shape. The proposed method utilizes the small shape differences among objects as much as possible to distinguish an object from similar shaped objects. It consists of the GHT based candidate generation and top-down candidate verification. For the fast generation of the candidate 1ist, the GHT operation is performed un the down sampled edge list. The test results show that it can retrieve the correct object even with a pan of object in reasonable time.

  • Compared with traditional video monitoring systems that provide a video-recording function as a main service, an intelligent video monitoring system is capable of extracting/tracking objects and detecting events such as car accidents, traffic congestion, pedestrian detection, and so on. Thus, the object tracking is an essential function for various intelligent video monitoring and surveillance systems. In this paper, we propose a background and local histogram-based object tracking approach for intelligent video monitoring systems. For robust object tracking in a live situation, the result of optical flow and local histogram verification are combined with the result of background subtraction. In the proposed approach, local histogram verification allows the system to track target objects more reliably when the local histogram of LK position is not similar to the previous histogram. Experimental results are provided to show the proposed tracking algorithm is robust in object occlusion and scale change situation.

  • The consistency of UML diagrams is a nature for checking whether diagrams are coherently designed with only one requirements and the correctness of UML Diagrams, especially it uses OCL(Object Constraint Language) which is standard constraint language in UML. Firstly we devise metamodels that are described with conponent and relationships, then we derive verification rules from each matamodels for verifying correctness and consistency, and then we formally specify the rules with OCL for automatic verification. Finally we verify the rules with USE TOOL.

  • A software development process is regarded as the process of building a series of various models. But developers had no method to verify these models which created subjectively. This paper has adopted initiative of verification tools to an early phase of analysis, whereas the existing verification tools have been used for implementations. This paper has defined a constraint language that expresses disciplines suggested in the system has been built upon the constraint language, which is proven to enhance the quality and consistency of models constructed by object model editor.

  • Measuring and evaluation of audience's visual message perception are crucial process for scientific production of visual content. This study tried to evaluate the difference of viewer's awareness of visual object depends on his or her inherent characteristics like conservatism using an eye tracker system. Especially, this experiment tested research questions about positive correlation between conservatism and peoples' eye movements following the sound visual messages. 57 subjects participated in the test. Two different groups were exposed to two visual elements representing 'the conservative' and 'the liberal'. The results showed that people tended to have different way of seeing visual objects according to their inherent characteristics. Also by comparing the gaze time at the object and area of interest(AOI) in visual, this study is able to verify the existence of 'positive way of seeing' and 'negative way of seeing'. The two different ways of seeing have their own trail of eye movement.

  • A microscale weather analysis module (about 1km or less) is a microscale numerical weather prediction model designed for operational forecasting and atmospheric research needs such as radiant energy, thermal energy, and humidity. The accuracy of the module is directly related to the usefulness and quality of real-time microscale weather information service in the metropolitan area. This paper suggests an object based verification method useful for spatio-temporal evaluation of the accuracy of the microscale weather analysis module. The method is a graphical method comprised of three steps that constructs a lattice field of evaluation statistics, merges and identifies objects, and evaluates the accuracy of the module. We develop lattice fields using various evaluation spatio-temporal statistics as well as an efficient object identification algorithm that conducts convolution, masking, and merging operations to the lattice fields. A real data application demonstrates the utility of the verification method.

  • In this paper, we propose Class Diagram With Constraints (CDWC) as an object oriented modeling technique which makes validation possible in software development. CDWC is a simple and basic model for the object oriented analysis, and has a reasonable strictness for software developers. CDWC consists of class diagrams and constraints (invariant and pre/post conditions), using UML and a subset of OCL.. We introduce a method of validation of CDWC using the verification technique of algebraic formal specification language CafeOBJ.

  • A line search method is developed to locate all the conerpoints of 2-dimensional polygon images for inspection purposes. This optimization-based method is used to approximate a 2-D curved object by a polygon. This scheme is also developed for inspection of objects in industrial environment. The inspection includes dimensional verification and pattern matching which compares a 2-D image of an object to a pattern image. The method proves to be computationally efficient and accurate for real time application.

  • Viola & Jones' object detection algorithm is a very good algorithm for the face component(FC) detection, but there are still problems such as duplicate detection, false detection and non-detection due to parameter setting. This paper proposes an improved FC detection algorithm that applies the variable parameter to reduce non-detection and the verification to reduce duplicate detection and false detection to the Viola & Jones' algorithm. The proposed algorithm reduces the non-detection by changing the parameter value of the Viola & Jones' algorithm until the potential valid FCs are detected, and eliminates the duplicate detection and the false detection by using the verification that evaluates size, position, and uniqueness of the detected FCs. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm includes valid FCs in the detected objects and then detects only the valid FCs by removing invalid FCs from them.
