  • It is recognized that object-oriented methods and formal methods are two different main streams that will influence on the future direction of software engineering. A merging effort on these two technologies, named "a formal approach on system specifications using object-oriented methods" emerges rapidly and produces remarkable research results LOTOS is well-suited to an object-based approach. However, to provide a full object-oriented approach, we need to model generalization (i.e. inheritance and polymorphism). Most authors who have examined this topic have proposed extensions to LOTOS. As an extension of such an effort, this paper proposes a method that generates LOTOS specification from static structure diagrams in UML.

  • Information exchange on XML such as B2B electronic commerce is spreading. Therefore the systematic and stable management mechanism for storing the exchanged information is needed. For this goal there are many research activities for connection between XML application and relational database. But because XML data have hierarchical structures and relational database can store only flat-structured data, we need to store XML data in object-oriented database that support hierarchical structure. Accordingly the modeling methodology for storing XML data in object-oriented database is needed. In this parer, the transforming methods based on object model from XML DTD to object-oriented database schema is proposed. For this, we first introduce mapping methods that map XML DTD to object model and then we propose soem methods that transform from the object model to object-oriented database schema.

  • The aim of this study is to develop a simulation model for analyzing 2D truss structure using Generic Agricultural System Simulator (GASS). Although the truss is simple structure, numerical methods based on matrix analysis are cumbersome and complicated. This study suggests simple and convenient methods to remove calculating steps for whole stiffness matrices. The simulation environment based on independency of object-oriented components on GASS consists of component development and component deploy stages. A component for a truss structure is implemented based on equilibrium equations at nodes. The simulator can analyze truss structures through deploying components with attributes and links. The examples using GASS show intuitive graphical results of the movements of truss nodes.

  • Data in one Product Model for shipbuilding is inevitably referenced and manipulated during each phase of design or production activities, and data or manipulation status naturally varies from the original with the advance of each activities. For Object-Oriented approach, it is hard to identify classes dealing with those variations, and even if once a product model is developed, it might be getting much harder to modify it to cope with a new additional phase of activities. This paper proposes an Instance-Oriented Modeling Method, temporarily named “Concept-Relationship Modeling Approach”, which handles Data structure and Behavior independently of each other in order to resolve the difficulties above.

  • This paper considers the design technique of the real-time control algorithm to implement the electronic interlocking system which is the most important station control system in railway signal field. The proposed technique consists of the structure design and the detail design which are based on the ROOM(Real-Time Object-Oriented Modeling) This proposed technique is applied to the typical station model in order to prove the validity as verifying the performance of the modeled station.

  • This paper presents a modeling of railway facilities based on object-oriented software development technique for train operation simulation program. Railway network is decomposed by Line Structure Model and Signal System Model which can be composed to make the train routes and train performance calculation. A brief explanation of class design about these model is provided.

  • FMS is a distributed system composed of various programmable manufacturing hardware such as robots and NC machines. For the autonomous operation of such a system, an integrated software layer for the control and monitoring in needed on top of the manufacturing hardware. However, constructing and maintaining such a software layer is difficult due to the complexity of a underlying FMS and its frequently changing nature. To cope with this problem, this paper proposes an object-oriented FMS integration model, in which objects acting as virtual manufacturing cells are instantiated for each physical cell in the underlying object-oriented database. Various other entities involved in manufacturing processes and their relationship to the cell objects are also captured in the database. This paper describes the structure of this object-oriented FMS database on our prototype implementation called FREE.

  • High-resolution satellite images offer abundance information of the earth surface for remote sensing applications. The information includes geometry, texture and attribute characteristic. The pixel-based image classification can't satisfy high-resolution satellite image's classification precision and produce large data redundancy. Object-oriented information extraction not only depends on spectrum character, but also use geometry and structure information. It can provide an accessible and truly revolutionary approach. Using Beijing Spot 5 high-resolution image and object-oriented classification with the eCognition software, we accomplish the cultures' precise classification. The test areas have five culture types including water, vegetation, road, building and bare lands. We use nearest neighbor classification and appraise the overall classification accuracy. The average of five species reaches 0.90. All of maximum is 1. The standard deviation is less than 0.11. The overall accuracy can reach $95.47\%.$ This method offers a new technology for high-resolution satellite images' available applications in remote sensing culture classification.

  • This paper introduces the basic concepts and requirements of database system based on the object-oriented paradigm, and presents the overview of the design of an object-oriented data base system which refects those conceprs and requirements . The system imolemented on C++,consists of three structure layers. The inner layer, which is in fact a storage system, performs file I/O,while the inermediate layer is responisible for most of the functions except the ones rerated to the user interface, such as the transaction management, the schema manage-ment,and the management of buffers in main memory etc.The outer layer, designed mainly for the uwerunteface, mot only privides the functions for graphical user interface, preprocessor, and interpreter etc,but also supports extended SQL for object-oriented features.

  • The importance of Virtual Manufacturing System is increasing in the area of developing new manufacturing processes, implementing automated workcells, designing plant facility layouts and workplace ergonomics. Virtual manufacturing system is a computer system that can generate the same information about manufacturing system structure, states, and behaviors as is observed in a real manufacturing. In this research, a virtual manufacturing system for flexible manufacturing cells (VFMC), (which is a useful tool for building Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), has been developed using object-oriented paradigm, and implemented with software QUEST/IGRIP. Three object models used in the system are the product model, the facility model, and the process model. The concrete behaviors of a flexible manufacturing cell are re[presented by the task-oriented description diagram, TIC. An example simulation is executed to evaluate applicability of the developed models, and to prove the potential value of virtual manufacturing paradigm.
