Despite of many researches related to create 3D digital maps, it is still time-consuming and costly because a large part of 3D digital mapping is conducted manually. To circumvent this limitation, we proposed methodologies to create 3D digital maps with 3D symbols automatically. For this purpose, firstly, the 3D symbol library to represent 3D objects as 3D symbols was constructed. In this library, we stored the attribute and geometry information of 3D objects which define types and shapes of symbols respectively. These information were used to match 3D objects with 3D symbols and extracted from 2D digital maps and LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) data. Then, to locate 3D symbols into a base map automatically, we used predefined parameters such as the size, the height, the rotation angle and the center of gravity of 3D objects which are extracted from LiDAR data. Finally, the 3D digital map in urban area was constructed and the results were tested. Through this research, we can identify that the developed algorithms can be used as effective techniques for 3D digital mapping.
Infrared (IR) thermography which is the technique for detecting invisible infrared light emitted by objects due to their surface thermal condition and for producing an image of the light has been applied in various field without damaging the objects. It also could be used indirectly to examine the inside of an object. In this study, insulation property of wooden house in Korea Forest Research Institute (KFRI) was evaluated with according to "Thermal performance of building - Quantitative detection of thermal irregularities in building envelopes - infrared method (KS F 2829)". This method uses "Temperature Difference Ratio (TDR)" between outdoor wall surface and indoor wall surface of wooden building for evaluating its thermal performance. The thermal performance of a room on the 2nd floor of the wooden house was focused in this study and IR thermography on the indoor and outdoor surface of the house was captured by IR camera. Heat loss from the corner and the window of the wooden house as well as wall of the house was quantitatively evaluated and the invisible heat loss in the wall was detected. It is expected that the results from this study could contribute to improve the wooden building energy efficiency.
The recent development of the technology for wireless mobile computing and applied technology for location-based services has made it possible to support query processing faster than that in the past. However, some technological limitations on hardware and software still exist. The most critical aspects of query processing are accuracy and speed. For improving the accuracy, it is required that detailed information on the data involved in query processing be saved. In this case, the amount of information on the data increases, which decreases the speed. On the other hand, for increasing the speed, it is necessary to reduce the broadcast cycle, which enables rapid data acquisition as desired. In this case, because of insufficient index information, the listen time for the client increases, which may cause unnecessary energy consumption. Therefore, a trade-off occurs between the accuracy and speed. This paper proposes a hierarchical bitmap-based spatial index (HBI) as a solution for the aforementioned problems. HBI describes an object with 0 and 1 on the Hilbert curve map. It reduces the broadcast cycle by decreasing the index size on the basis of bit information and tree structure. Therefore, it is able to shorten the listen time and query processing time. In addition, HBI enables the detection of the locations of all the objects so that it is possible selectively listen to a broadcast. A performance evaluation of the proposed technique demonstrates that it is excellent.

In this paper, we propose a method to analyze M:N corresponding relations in semantic matching, especially focusing on feature class matching. Similarities between any class pairs are measured by spatial objects which coexist in the class pairs, and corresponding classes are obtained by clustering with these pairwise similarities. We applied a graph embedding method, which constructs a global configuration of each class in a low-dimensional Euclidean space while preserving the above pairwise similarities, so that the distances between the embedded classes are proportional to the overall degree of similarity on the edge paths in the graph. Thus, the clustering problem could be solved by employing a general clustering algorithm with the embedded coordinates. We applied the proposed method to polygon object layers in a topographic map and land parcel categories in a cadastral map of Suwon area and evaluated the results. F-measures of the detected class pairs were analyzed to validate the results. And some class pairs which would not detected by analysis on nominal class names were detected by the proposed method.
It is sometimes necessary to remove the captions and recover original images from video images already broadcast, When the number of images requiring such recovery is small, manual processing is possible, but as the number grows it would be very difficult to do it manually. Therefore, a method for recovering original image for the caption areas in needed. Traditional research on image restoration has focused on restoring blurred images to sharp images using frequency filtering or video coding for transferring video images. This paper proposes a method for automatically recovering original image using BMA(Block Matching Algorithm). We extract information on caption regions and scene change that is used as a prior-knowledge for recovering original image. From the result of caption information detection, we know the start and end frames of captions in video and the character areas in the caption regions. The direction for the recovery is decided using information on the scene change and caption region(the start and end frame for captions). According to the direction, we recover the original image by performing block matching for character components in extracted caption region. Experimental results show that the case of stationary images with little camera or object motion is well recovered. We see that the case of images with motion in complex background is also recovered.

The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between exposure index (EI) and dose factors related to radiation dose optimization in digital radiography (DR) system. Two phantoms with built-in regional test object for quantitative assessment of images were used to produce image signals that acquired in chest radiography background. EI and entrane surface dose (ESD) increased proportionally with rise of radiation dose (kVp, mAs) in both DR and CR systems. Especially, DR detector was effective to form good contrast and hence, reached easily to improvement of image quality with minimal dose changes. It made operators possible to expect the accuracy of EI values deeply related to absorbed dose of the detector. The evaluation of images was obtained specially employed calculation of noise to signal ratio (NSR) and contrast to noise ratio (CNR). These measurements were performed for how exposure factors affect image quality. NSR was inversely proportional to kVp and mAs and low NSR represented high signal detection efficiency. Consequently, EI values was the measure of the amount of exposure received by the image receptor and it was proportional to exposure factors. Therefore the EI in a recommended range from manufacturer can offer optimal image quality. Also, continuous monitoring of EI values in the digital radiography can reduce the unnecessary patient dose and help the quality control of the system.
Time synchronization algorithm in wireless sensor networks is essential to various applications such as object tracking, data encryption, duplicate detection, and precise TDMA scheduling. This paper describes CDRS that is a time synchronization algorithm using the Clock Drift rate and Reference Signals between two sensor nodes. CDRS is composed of two steps. At first step, the time correction is calculated using offset and the clock drift rate between the two nodes based on the LTS method. Two nodes become a synchronized state and the time variance can be compensated by the clock drift rate. At second step, the synchronization node transmits reference signals periodically. This reference signals are used to calculate the time difference between nodes. When this value exceeds the maximum error tolerance, the first step is performed again for resynchronization. The simulation results on the performance analysis show that the time accuracy of the proposed algorithm is improved, and the energy consumption is reduced 2.5 times compared to the time synchronization algorithm with only LTS, because CDRS reduces the number of message about 50% compared to LTS and reference signals do not use the data space for timestamp.
The roadmap-based planning is a path planning method which is used widely for a goal-directed movement in Robotics and has been applied to the world of computer animation such as computer games. However it is unnatural for computer characters to follow the path planned by the roadmap method as it is performed in Robotics. Flocking which is used for realistic and natural movements in computer animation enables character's movement by using a few simple rules without planning unlike the roadmap method. However it is impossible to achieve a goal-directed movement with flocking only because it does not keep states. In this paper we propose a simulation method which combines planning based on the road map with reactive actions for natural movements along the path planned. We define and implement steering behaviors for a leader which are needed to follow the trajectory naturally by analysing characteristics of roadmap-based paths and for the rest of members which follow the leader in various manners by detecting obstacles. The simulations are performed and demonstrated by using the implemented steering behaviors on every possible combination of roadmap-based path planning methods and models of configuration spaces. We also show that the detection of obstacle-collisions can be done effectively because paths are planned in the configuration space in which a moving object is reduced to a point.

Delineation of accurate object boundaries is crucial to provide reliable spatial information products such as digital topographic maps, building models, and spatial database. In LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) data, real boundaries of the buildings exist somewhere between outer-most points on the roofs and the closest points to the buildings among points on the ground. In most cases, areas of the building footprints represented by LiDAR points are smaller than actual size of the buildings because LiDAR points are located inside of the physical boundaries. Therefore, building boundaries determined by points on the roofs do not coincide with the actual footprints. This paper aims to estimate accurate boundaries that are close to the physical boundaries using airborne LiDAR data. The accurate boundaries are determined from the non-gridded original LiDAR data using initial boundaries extracted from the gridded data. The similar method implemented in this paper is also found in demarcation of the maritime boundary between two territories. The proposed method consists of determining initial boundaries with segmented LiDAR data, estimating accurate boundaries, and accuracy evaluation. In addition, extremely low density data was also utilized for verifying robustness of the method. Both simulation and real LiDAR data were used to demonstrate feasibility of the method. The results show that the proposed method is effective even though further refinement and improvement process could be required.
