  • The degree of relative similarity between 2D patterns is obtained using Open-Ball Scheme. Open-Ball Scheme employs a method of transforming the geometrical information on 3D objects or 2D patterns into the features to measure the relative similarity for object(patten) recognition, with invariance on scale, rotation, and translation. The feature of an object is used to obtain the relative similarity and mapped into [0, 1] the interval of real line. For decades, Moment-Invariant Method has been used as one of the excellent methods for pattern classification and object recognition. Open-Ball Scheme uses the geometrical structure of patterns while Moment Invariant Method uses the statistical characteristics. Open-Ball Scheme is compared to Moment Invariant Method with respect to the way that it interprets two-dimensional patten classification, especially the paradigms are compared by the degree of closeness to human's intuitive understanding. Finally the effectiveness of the proposed Open-Ball Scheme is illustrated through simulations.

  • Recently, conceptual information model is changing fast, and these changes are coming about as a result of individual tendency, social cultural, new circumstances and societal shifts within big data environment. Despite the data is growing more and more, now is the time to commit ourselves to the development of renewable, invaluable information of social/live commerce. Because we have problems with various insoluble data, we propose about deep learning prediction model-based object classification in social commerce of big data environment. Accordingly, it is an increased need of social commerce platform capable of handling high volumes of multiple items by users. Consequently, responding to rapid changes in users is a very significant by deep learning. Namely, promptly meet the needs of the times, and a widespread growth in big data environment with the goal of realizing in this paper.

  • Numerous statistical and machine learning techniques have been studied for automatic text classification. However, because they train the classifiers using only feature vectors of documents, ambiguity between two possible categories significantly degrades precision of classification. To remedy the drawback, we propose a new method which incorporates relationship information of categories into extant classifiers. In this paper, we first perform the document classification using the k-NN classifier which is generally known for relatively good performance in spite of its simplicity. We employ the relationship information from an object-based thesaurus to reduce the ambiguity. By referencing various relationships in the thesaurus corresponding to the structured categories, the precision of k-NN classification is drastically improved, removing the ambiguity. Experiment result shows that this method achieves the precision up to 13.86% over the k-NN classification, preserving its recall.

  • Atmospheric correction as a preprocessing work should be performed to conduct accurately landcover/landuse classification using hyperspectral imagery. Atmospheric correction on airborne hyperspectral images was conducted and then the effect of atmospheric correction by comparing spectral reflectance characteristics before and after atmospheric correction for a few landuse classes was analyzed. In addition, land cover classification was first conducted respectively by the maximum likelihood method and the spectral angle mapper method after atmospheric correction and then the results were compared. Applying the spectral angle mapper method, the sea water area were able to be classified with the minimum of noise at the threshold angle of 4 arc degree. It is considered that object-based classification method, which take into account of scale, spectral information, shape, texture and so forth comprehensively, is more advantageous than pixel-based classification methods in conducting landcover classification of the coastal area with hyperspectral images in which even the same object represents various spectral characteristics.

  • Generally, moving objects in surveillance video are extracted by background subtraction or frame difference method. However, moving cast shadows on object distort extracted figures which cause serious detection problems. Especially, analyzing vehicle information in video frames from a fixed surveillance camera on road, we obtain inaccurate results by shadow which vehicle causes. So, Shadow Elimination is essential to extract right objects from frames in surveillance video. And we use shadow removal algorithm for vehicle classification. In our paper, as we suppress moving cast shadow in object, we efficiently discriminate vehicle types. After we fit new object of shadow-removed object as three dimension object, we use extracted attributes for supervised learning to classify vehicle types. In experiment, we use 3 learning methods {IBL, C4.5, NN(Neural Network)} so that we evaluate the result of vehicle classification by shadow elimination.

  • This paper presents a novel algorithm to detect more accurate road lane with image sensor-based color classification and directional edge clustering. With treatment of road region and lane as a recognizable color object, the classification of color cues is processed by an iterative optimization of statistical parameters to each color object. These clustered color objects are taken into considerations as initial kernel information for color object detection and recognition. In order to improve the limitation of object classification using the color cues, the directional edge cures within the estimated region of interest in the lane boundary (ROI-LB) are clustered and combined. The results of color classification and directional edge clustering are optimally integrated to obtain the best detection of road lane. The characteristic of the proposed system is to obtain robust result to all real road environments because of using non-parametric approach based only on information of color and edge clustering without a particular mathematical road and lane model. The experimental results to the various real road environments and imaging conditions are presented to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we propose a hierarchical classifier of object images using neural networks for content-based image classification. The images for classification are object images that can be divided into foreground and background. In the preprocessing step, we extract the object region and shape-based texture features extracted from wavelet transformed images. We group the image classes into clusters which have similar texture features using Principal Component Analysis(PCA) and K-means. The hierarchical classifier has five layes which combine the clusters. The hierarchical classifier consists of 59 neural network classifiers learned with the back propagation algorithm. Among the various texture features, the diagonal moment was the most effective. A test with 1000 training data and 1000 test data composed of 10 images from each of 100 classes shows classification rates of 81.5% and 75.1% correct, respectively.

  • This paper is a study on data augmentation for small dataset by using deep learning. In case of training a deep learning model for recognition and classification of non-mainstream objects, there is a limit to obtaining a large amount of training data. Therefore, this paper proposes a data augmentation method using perspective transform and image synthesis. In addition, it is necessary to save the object area for all training data to detect the object area. Thus, we devised a way to augment the data and save object regions at the same time. To verify the performance of the augmented data using the proposed method, an experiment was conducted to compare classification accuracy with the augmented data by the traditional method, and transfer learning was used in model learning. As experimental results, the model trained using the proposed method showed higher accuracy than the model trained using the traditional method.

  • In this paper, underwater acoustic image classification of a cylindrical object using the Hough transformation is proposed. Hough transformation is often used to classify a cylindrical object in the optical systems. However, it is difficult to apply to the underwater acoustic image system because of lower resolution and noisier underwater environments. Thus, the cylindrical object was modeled and its geometric depth(GD) pixels were restored in order to make them suitable for the Hough transformation by using moving average filter and a polynomial interpolation method. As a result, restored GD pixels are similar to original ones and test results show high performance in classification.

  • The way to assign a splitting criterion for correct object classification is the main issue in all decisions trees. This paper describes new splitting rules for classification in order to find an optimal split point. Unlike the current splitting rules that are provided by searching all threshold values, this paper proposes the splitting rules that we based on the probabilities of pre assigned intervals. Our methodology provides that user can control the accuracy of tree by adjusting the number of intervals. In addition, we applied the proposed splitting rules to a set of image data that was retrieved by parameterized feature extraction to recognize image objects.
