This study was conducted to understand the research trends and central concepts of middle-aged women' health in Korea. For the analysis of this study, target papers published from 2012 to 2021 were collected by entering the keywords of 'middle-aged woman' or 'menopausal woman'. 1,116 papers were used for analysis. The co-occurrence network of key words was developed and analyzed, and the research trends were analyzed through topic modeling of the LSD by dividing it into five-year units (2012-2016, 2017-2021), and visualized word cloud and sociogram were used. The keywords that appeared the most during the last 10 years were obesity, depression, body composition, stress, and menopause symptom. Five topics analyzed in the thesis data for 5 years from 2012 to 2016 were 'postmenopausal self-efficacy and satisfaction enhancement strategy', 'exercise to manage obesity and risk factors', 'intervention for obesity and stress', 'promotion of happiness and life management' and 'menopausal depression and quality of life' were confirmed. Five topics of research conducted for the next five years (2017-2021) were 'menopausal depression and quality of life', 'management of obesity and cardiovascular risk factors', 'life experience as a middle-aged woman', and 'life satisfaction and psychological well-being' and 'menopausal symptom relief strategy'. Through the results, the trend of research topics related to middle-aged women's health over the past 10 years have been identified, and research on health of middle-aged women that reflects the trend of the future should be continued.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the association between dietary quality based on the Korean Healthy Eating Index (KHEI), and the prevalence of chronic conditions among middle-aged individuals (40-60 yrs of age) living alone. MATERIALS/METHODS: The participants were selected (1,517 men and 2,596 women) from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2016-2018 and classified into single-person households (SPH) and multi-person households (MPH). Nutrient intake, KHEI, and the prevalence of chronic conditions were compared according to household size. The odds ratios (ORs) of chronic conditions were analyzed according to the tertile levels of KHEI by gender within each household size category. RESULTS: Men in SPH had a significantly lower total KHEI score (P < 0.0001) and a lower prevalence of obesity (OR, 0.576) than those in MPH. For men, the adjusted ORs for obesity, hypertension, and hypertriglyceridemia in the first tertile (T1) of KHEI scores within SPH compared with the third tertile (T3) were 4.625, 3.790, and 4.333, respectively. Moreover, the adjusted OR for hypertriglyceridemia in the T1 group compared to the T3 group within the MPH was 1.556. For women, the adjusted ORs for obesity and hypertriglyceridemia in T1 compared to T3 within the SPH were 3.223 and 7.134, respectively, and 1.573 and 1.373 for obesity and hypertension, respectively, within MPH. CONCLUSIONS: A healthy eating index was associated with a reduced risk of chronic conditions in middle-aged adults. Greater adherence to a healthy eating index could lower the risk of chronic conditions in middle-aged adults living alone.

This study is designed for improving wearing styles for middle-aged women who are in unsatisfactory body types and also providing the basic information about the suitable clothing designs for them. This study focuses on what kinds of body types they perceive, what the differences are between the perception of their body types and the real ones, and how the actual clothing styles can be affected by those perceived body types. This study is based on the survey of the perception of body types, the clothing styles, and the satisfaction level of body cathexis, while measuring body size of each person responded. The data were analyzed by Mean, ANOVA, Duncan-test of SPSS Win. (ver 10.1)program. The results are as follows: 1. The perception of their body types can be categorized into three clusters, the obesity, the arm & leg obesity, the slender. 2. By and large, Middle-aged women perceive their body types exactly what they we. However, they show a relatively subjective view on the upper arm girth, ankle girth, and arm length 3. The abdomen is at the lowest satisfactory part in body cathexis for the entire groups responded, and there are some differences among the perception of their body types in whole body silhouette and trunk. 4. Middle-aged women who perceive themselves as a bit slender show a tendency of having tight and revealing clothing styles, while the obese who perceived themselves wouldn't take them as appropriate dresses.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of homocysteine and antioxidant nutrients with obesity in Korean middle aged women. The study subjects included were middle-aged obese women (n=36) whose body mass index (BMI) was greater than $25kg/m^2$. A total of 36 participants were randomly divided into two groups. They were assigned to either the Nutritional Management and Exercise (NME) program or the Exercise Management (EM) program, which were both conducted for 3 months. We measured serum homocysteine, total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol levels of the participant. We also measured the dietary intakes of antioxidant nutrient, cholesterol, body weight, body mass index, blood pressure, and $VO_2$. At the end of both programs, please confirm this change. It was unclear when these measurements were shown to have decreased. The body weight and BMI of NME group were decreased compared to those of EM group. The serum total cholesterol levels of the participants in NME group were significantly decreased, in contrast to EM group. Also, serum homocysteine levels of NME group participants were decreased compared to EM group, but the difference was not statistically significant. In the NME group, there were significant differences in the change of dietary cholesterol and vitamin C intake. These results showed that participating NME program will continuously promote the healthy status of the middle aged obese women, compared to participating only in the EM program.
Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the change of bone mineral density(BMD) after 1 month Kirindiet therapy including very low calory diet(VLCD) in middle-aged obese women$(65>age{\geqq}40,\;BMI{\geqq}25)$ under normal $BMD(T-score{\leqq}0)$. Methods : We examined body weight, body fat, protein mass and BMD of 13 middle-aged obese women who visited to Kirin Oriental Hospital from Sep. 7. 2004 to Oct. 12. 2005 before and after 1 month Kirindiet therapy. Body weight, body fat and protein mass was checked by Inbody 4.0 and BMD was checked by quantitated computed tomography. Wilcoxon signed rank test was used for analyzing changes of body weight, body fat, protein mass and BMD before and after treatment. Results : Alter 1 month treatment body weight(-4.89Kg, -6.74%, p=0.001), body fat(-3.47Kg, p=0.001) and protein mass(-0.97Kg, p=0.006) was significantly reduced. BMD was significantly increased in all cases(+4.87mg/cc, +4.16%, p=0.001). Though body weight, body fat and protein mass were significantly reduced, BMD was significantly increased(p<0.01). Conclusions : In this study, we can conclude that after 1 month Kirindiet therapy including VLCD, BMD in middle-aged obese women under normal BMD was significantly increased inspite of reduction of body weight, body fat and protein mass.
Purpose: This research was conducted to provide basic information about the effects of aerobic exercise on physiological change in middle-aged obese women according to differences of ${\beta}$3-adrenergic receptor polymorphisms. Method: Twenty-nine middle aged obese women with over 30%BMI were divided into three groups according to ${\beta}$3-adrenergic receptor gene polymorphism[Variable Group(VG):9, Normal Group(NG):10, Control Group(CG):10]. The VG and NG groups performed walking at 50% exercise intensity for 30 minutes a day, 4 days a week, for 12 weeks. The data was analyzed using the SPSS program. Result: The level of leptin, insulin and % body fat in the VG and NG groups was significantly lower than those of the CG after 12 weeks. In addition, the level of HDL-C in the VG and NG was significantly higher than that of the CG after 12 weeks. However, TC, TG and body weight between groups didn't appear significant at the end of 12 weeks. Conclusions: Aerobic exercise didn't cause differences in persons with differing ${\beta}$3-adrenergic receptor gene polymorphisms, but aerobic exercise affected the physiological change in middle-aged obese women. The findings suggest that aerobic exercise is a desirable nursing intervention for obesity control in middle-aged obese women.
To figure out the causes of obesity against middle-aged women, this study aimed to provide basic data for setting an obesity-related policy through analysis on diverse related factors. Against the healthy middle-aged women who visited 'N' Hospital Health Center in Incheon from April to November 2014, anthropometric assessment, body composition test and abdominal fat distribution test were conducted using Fat-CT. They were carried out against 159 women who agreed with the purpose of the study, using BMD, Q-CT. According to Fat-CT, subcutaneous and visceral types accounted for 39% (76 women) and 61% (119 respondents) respectively. In terms of BMI, 'underweight ($18.5kg/m^2$)' and 'overweight ($25kg/m^2$ or above)' were 13 women (6.7%) and 60 women (30.8%) each with the average of $23.5{\pm}4.11kg/m^2$. Mean while, waist circumference, diastolic blood pressure, systolic blood pressure and neutral fat were statistically significant at the 5% significance level. As getting older, muscle weakness offsets increase in body weight with abdominal obesity. A group with low BMI should also be considered due to increase in waist circumference.
Purpose: This study aims to compare and analyze the changes in the physical and mental health status of middle-aged women before and after menopause and their quality of life over the past 10 years. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted by using secondary data from the 4th and 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) involving middle-aged women in menopause (N=8,363). Data were analyzed using the complex sample x2 test. Results: Compared to 10 years ago, notable changes were observed in general characteristics. These included increase in age, education level, economic activity, and urban residency. In addition, there was an increase in alcohol consumption, a decrease in smoking, and a decline in regular exercise. The study also observed changes in obesity rates and an increase in dyslipidemia and stress levels, along with positive changes across all aspects of quality of life. Conclusion: The results indicate temporal changes in general characteristics, major physical and mental health factors, and the quality of life of middle-aged women in menopause. Thus, it is essential to consider these changes when designing health interventions such as health promotions and education initiatives for middle-aged women experiencing menopause. Further research is necessary for identifying factors influencing the quality of life of middle-aged women in menopause.

Background: The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of an abdominal obesity management program in middle-aged women in Korea. Methods: Examination of databases, including the Research Information Sharing Service, Database Periodical Information Academic, and Korean Studies Information, resulted in identification of 772 studies performed up to 2014, of which 43 satisfied the inclusion data. Data analysis was performed using R version 3.2 to calculate the effect sizes, explore possible causes of heterogeneity, and check for publication bias, using a funnel plot and its trim-and-fill analysis. Results: The mean effect size of the management program was small (g=0.22), along with the anthropometric index (g=0.18), metabolism index (g=0.21), fat-distribution (g=0.36), and inflammatory index (g=0.36). Moderator analysis was performed to determine heterogeneity, but no significant differences were found between the randomized controlled trial (RCT) group and non-RCT group. In addition, the length of the session was found to be statistically significant after performing a meta-regression. Finally, a funnel plot with a trim-and-fill analysis was produced to check for publication bias, but no significant bias was detected. Conclusion: Based on these findings, the abdominal obesity management program affects middle-aged women in Korea. Further research is needed to target other age groups with abdominal obesity.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: We investigated the associations between eating away from home (EAFH) and overweight and obesity among Ugandan adults using the 2014 Uganda non-communicable disease risk factor survey. SUBJECTS/METHODS: In total, 3,025 participants aged 18-69 years were included in the analysis. The frequency of EAFH was assessed by asking participants the number of meals eaten per week that were not prepared at a home. EAFH frequency was categorized as; less than once/week, 1-2 times/week, or ≥ 3 times/week. Logistic regression was used to evaluate the associations between overweight, obesity, and EAFH. We also tested whether sex and age modified these associations. RESULTS: Participants that ate away from home ≥ 3 times/week were 2.13 times more likely to be obese than those that ate away from home less than once/week (odds ratio [OR], 2.13; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.28-3.54). However, when the analysis was stratified by sex, women that ate away from home ≥ 3 times/week were 42% less likely to be overweight than those that ate away from home less than once/week (OR, 0.58; 95% CI, 0.36-0.94). Men that ate away from home ≥ 3 times a week were 3.89 times and 2.23 times more likely to be obese and overweight, respectively, than those that ate away from home less than once/week (obesity: OR, 3.89; 95% CI, 1.50-10.09; overweight: OR, 2.23; 95% CI, 1.42-3.51). Age-stratified analysis showed that among participants aged 31-50 years, those that ate away from home ≥ 3 times a week were 3.53 times more likely to be obese than those that ate away from home less than once/week (OR, 3.53; 95% CI, 1.69-7.37). CONCLUSIONS: Frequent EAFH was positively associated with overweight and obesity among men, and obesity among young/middle-aged adults, but negatively associated with overweight in women. Nutritional interventions for obesity reduction in Uganda should include strategies aimed at reducing the frequency of eating meals prepared away from home, and specifically target men and young/middle-aged adults.
