It is found that the commercialization of nylon 66/Cloisite 93A nanocomposite by applying melt intercalation is possible in the composite production facilities of the pilot scale which has been generalized today. The strength and modulus under tensile and flexural stress have been improved with the introduction of Cloisite 93A in nylon 66. Furthermore, it is found through the analysis of morphologic and crystallization behavior that the elements such as content of Cloisite 93A, viscosity of nylon 66 and the crystallization behavior have significantly influences on the characteristics of nanocomposite.
The effect of filler sizes on the thermal diffusivity of Nylon 66/SiC composites was investigated. By loading 60 vol% of SiC fillers on Nylon 66, the thermal diffusivity of the composites increased more than 10 times than that of unfilled Nylon 66 and the thermal diffusivity of composites with filler sizes of $24{\mu}m$ and $76{\mu}m$ increased to $2.2{\times}10^{-2}cm^2/sec$ and $1.75{\times}10^{-2}cm^2/sec$, respectively. It is speculated that the smaller filler size ($24{\mu}m$) of SiC is more favorable for the formation of thermal conductive path that the larger size ($76{\mu}m$) of filler composites. The thermal diffusivity of Nylon 46/SiC 400 (60 vol%) composites was $1.61{\times}10^{-2}cm^2/sec$ that was lower than that of Nylon 66/SiC (60 vol%) composites.
Nanocomposites of blends of polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) and polyamide66 (Nylon66) containing natural and organically modified montmorillonite clays (PM, $Cloisite^{(R)}$ 25A and 15A) were prepared by melt mixing. DSC results showed that the addition of clay changed the crystallization behavior of PET/Nylon66 nanocomposites. Clay C25A was observed to most significantly change the crystallization temperature than other clays in blends of PET and Nylon66, which may be caused by the difference in interaction with matrix polymers. AFM results also showed that the lowest value of surface roughness was observed for nanocomposites containing C25A indicating the smooth and relatively homogenous surface. Mechanical properties measurement showed the similar results. Contact angle was measured to study the difference in hydrophobicity. An increase in contact angle was observed for nanocomposites with C25A or C15A due to the increased hydrophobicity.

Glass fiber reinforced nylon has been used in many plastic industries. Mechanical properties of reinforced plastics depend upon types of glass fiber as well as loading of glass fiber. Tensile properties of glass fiber reinforced nylon66 have been studied for different glass fiber types and sizes. Types of glass fibers were circular and flat, and diameters were 7, 10, and 13 micrometers. Orientations of glass fibers in the matrix of nylon66 have been analyzed through X-ray CT. Tensile specimens were prepared by cutting out of square plates of $100{\times}100{\times}3mm$ with different angles such as 0, 45, and $90^{\circ}$ to the flow direction. As the loading of glass fiber increases to 45 wt% tensile strength increases up 2.5 times compare with neat nylon66. Anisotropic tensile strength has been observed and minimum tensile strength was measured in the specimen cut from perpendicular to the flow direction.

A study of the improvement in the impact strength is required to apply Nylon 66/silicate composites as an automobile material. Nylon 66/silicate composites were prepared using a twin screw extruder in case of a silicate treatment by ${\gamma}$-APS (S-silicate) and the addition of an octene ${\alpha}$ olefin grafted by maleic anhydride (PE-g-MAH). The chemical structure of the silane treated silicate was measured by Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The chemical reaction was confirmed by the decrease in the FT-IR intensity of the OH stretching vibration. The thermal properties, intercalation structure, and Izod impact strength were measured by DSC, TGA, XRD, and Izod impact tester. There was no significant effect on the degradation temperature of the Nylon66/silicate composite, but the crystallization temperature and crystallinity increased slightly in the case of the Nylon66/silicate composites. This suggests that the additives act as heterogeneous nuclei on the Nylon 66 matrix. The Izod impact test indicated that S-silicate enhanced the impact performance by up to 24%.

Non-proportional loading tests of Nylon 66 at room temperature exhibit path dependent behavior and plasticity-relaxation interactions. The uniaxial formulation of the viscoplasticity theory based on overstress (VBO), which has been used to reproduce the nonlinear strain rate sensitivity, relaxation, significant recovery and cyclic softening behaviors of Nylon 66, is extended to three-dimensions to predict the response in strain-controlled, comer-path tests. VBO consists of a flow law that is easily written for either the stress or the strain as the independent variable. The flow law depends on the overstress, the difference between the stress and the equilibrium stress that is a state variable in VBO. The evolution law of the equilibrium stress in turn contains two additional state variables, the kinematic stress and the isotropic stress. The simulations show that the constitutive model is competent at modeling the deformation behavior of Nylon 66 and other solid polymers.

Nylon was the first commercialized synthetic fiber. It is a polyamide, derived from a diamine and dicarboxylic acid. The nylon fiber has outstanding durability and excellent physical properties such as stiffness, wear and abrasion resistance, friction coefficient and chemical resistance. Due to these properties of nylon 66, nano-sized fibers are produced by electrospinning method in this study. During the past years the nylon 66 fibers have been prepared by conventional melt spining. Nylon66/multi-walled carbon nano tube (MWCNT) composites were fabricated by twin screw extruder. The contents of MWCNT were 1, 3, 5, and 7 wt%. Thermal properties, dispersion, rheological and impact properties were measured by DSC, TGA, X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, Dynamic rheometer, and Izod impact tester. The effect of MWCNT on the non-isothermal crystallization of Nylon66 was confirmed by DSC. The complex viscosity at low frequency and the shear thinning tendency of the composites increased with MWCNT content. An increase in the elasticity was confirmed from the decrease in the slop of G'-G" plot. Izod impact strengths of the composites were analyzed as a measure of mechanical properties, which indicated that the composites exhibit a 60% enhancement for the impact strength when 3 wt% MWCNT was added. The dispersion of MWCNT within Nylon66/MWCNT composites was also checked by SEM.

RPP(maleic-anhydride grafted PP)and OPS(oxazoline grafted PS) do not react to each other, and thus show immiscibility. In this study, Nylons was added to RPP/OPS blend systems, as a reactive compatibilizer for enhancing the miscibility of the blends. When Nylon6 was added to the blends of RPP and OPS, RPP/Nylon6/OPS was produced. The effects of the molar ratio of Nylon6 on the RPP-Nylon6-OPS reaction were studied. Torque test and FT-IR analysis have been carried out to investigate the reaction of RPP/Nylon6/OPS system. The reaction torgue ratio and reaction efficiency show the maximum values at 1 : 0.66 : 1 and 1 : 1 : 1 (in moles) for RPP/Nylon6/OPS. In the RPP/Nylon6/OPS blends, their mechanical properties were changed with the molar ratio of Nylon6 and showed the highest value at molar ratio of 1.5. Physical properties and compatibility of RPP/Nylon6/OPS were compared with those of PP/Nylon6/OPS. Consequently, RPP/Nylon6/OPS plays a proper role as a reactive compatibilizer to the PP/PS blend system.
