Development of End-to-end Numerical Simulator for Next Generation GNSS Signal Design

  • This paper presents the development of an end-to-end numerical simulator for signal design of the next generation global navigation satellite system (GNSS). The GNSS services are an essential element of modern human life, becoming a core part of national infra-structure. Several countries are developing or modernizing their own positioning and timing system as their demand, and South Korea is also planning to develop a Korean Positioning System (KPS) based on its own technology, with the aim of operation in 2034. The developed simulator consists of three main units such as a signal generator, a channel unit, and a receiver. The signal generator is constructed based on the actual navigation satellite payload model. For channels, a simple Gaussian channel and land mobile satellite (LMS) multipath channel environments are implemented. A software receiver approach based on a commercial GNSS receiver model is employed. Through the simulator proposed in this paper, it is possible to simulate the entire transceiver chain process from signal generation to receiver processing including channel effect. Finally, numerical simulation results for a simple example scenario is analyzed. The use of the numerical signal simulator in this paper will be ideally suited to design a new navigation signal for the upcoming KPS by reducing the research and development efforts, tremendously.

Two-Dimensional Numerical Modeling and Simulation of Ultrasonic Testing

  • As an attempt to further improve the reliability and effectiveness of ultrasonic testing (UT), a two-dimensional numerical simulator of UT was developed. The simulator models the wave medium (or test object) using the mass-spring lattice model (MSLM) that consists of mass-points and springs. Some previous simulation results, obtained by using MSLM, are briefly reviewed in this paper, for propagation, reflection, and scattering of ultrasonic waves. Next, the models of transmitting and receiving piezoelectric transducers are introduced with some numerical results, which is a main focus of this paper. The UT simulator, established by combining the transducer models with the MSLM, was used to simulate many UT setups. In this paper, two simple setups are considered as examples, and their simulated A-scan signals are discussed. The potential of the MSLM, transducer models, and the UT simulator developed in this study to be used in the actual UT is confirmed.

  • Three-dimensional simulator for thermal oxidation process is developed. The simulator is consisted by two individual module, one is analytic-model module and the other is numerical-model module. The analytic-model which uses simple complementary-error function guarantees fast calculation in prediction of multi-dimensional oxidation process. The numerical-model which is based on boundary element method (BEM), has a good accuracy and suitable for various process conditions. The results of this study show that oxide growth is retarded at the corner of hole structure and enhanced at the corner of island structure. These effects are reson of different distribution of oxidant diffusion and mask stress. The utility of models and simulator developed in this study is demonstrated by using it to predict not only traditional shape of LOCOS but also process effects in small geometry.

  • This paper focuses on a performance analysis model for optimizing the freight terminal design and layout using AutoMod simulator and numerical analysis. We developed a model to analyze the freiht terminal performance per unit time and the material handling cost based on both throughput and waiting due to conjestion. We developed computer program for this model and some sample results by both numerical method and AutoMod simulator are compared.

  • A study is made of thermal plume flow model for the development of helicopter simulator over the forest fire. For numerical analysis, the Boussinesq fluid approximation and line fire model, which is assumed by the shape of forest fire spreading, are adopted. Comparing 3-D full numerical solutions with 2-D similarity solution, it has been built a new model that is capable of temperature prediction along the symmetric vertical axis in both cases of laminar and turbulent flows.

  • 본 연구에서는, 농업생산시설내 환경조절을 위한 시뮬레이터의 기본 시스템을 구축하고, 실내환경을 조절하면서 실측치와 예측치를 비교함으로써 적용성을 검토하였다. 모델은 비정상상태의 에너지 및 물질수지에 근거하여 구축되었고, PCSMP를 사용하여 아날로그형 프로그램이 가능하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 구축된 환경조절용 시뮬레이터의 기본시스템은 기본모델, 광환경모델, 환경제어모델로 구성되어서 상호 독립적인 개발이 가능하였다. 기본모델은 본 시스템의 주요 부분으로써 열환경모델, 재배모델, 환기모델, 토양모델, 탄산가스모델을 구성되었고, 환경제어모델은 보온커텐, 냉난방기 및 지중열 교환을 고려하였다. 실제로 환경조절이 실시되고 있는 온실의 주간 및 야간의 실내온도의 실측치와 모델에 의한 예측치를 비교한 결과, 비교적 잘 일치되어서 그 적용성이 확인되었다.

  • 본 연구는 주거용 건축물의 열역학적 수치해석모델을 검토하는데 목적이 있다. 화재하중과 화재강도는 성능설계의 사용이 증가함에 따라 건축물 화재안전 설계에 중요한 요소으로 대두되고 있으며, 컴퓨터 성능의 발전으로 수치해석을 통한 예측이 가능해 지고 있다. 주거 가연물의 연소특성을 예측하기 위해 각가연물의 수치해석용 모델을 설계하였다. 해석된 결과를 검증하기 위해 수치해석의 결과를 실물 화재실험의 결과와 비교하였다. 수치해석을 위해 FDS5를 사용하였으며, 난류해석을 위해 LES모델이 적용하였다. 검증결과 화염전파 현상 및 온도곡선은 실험결과와 정성적으로 잘 일치함을 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구는 주거공간에 배치된 가연물의 열역학적 연소모델을 구현하는데 목적이 있다. 화재하중과 화재 강도는 성능설계의 사용이 증가함에 따라 건축물 화재안전 설계에 중요한 요소로 대두되고 있으며, 컴퓨터를 이용한 수치해석을 통해 예측이 가능해 지고 있다. 주거 가연물의 열역학적 연소특성을 예측하기 위해 각 가연물의 수치해석용 모델을 설계하였다. 해석된 결과를 검증하기 위해 수치해석의 결과를 실물 연소실험의 열방출량 결과와 비교하였다. 수치해석을 위해 FDS를 사용하였으며, 난류해석을 위해 LES모델이 사용되었다. 검증결과 열방출율 및 총발열량은 실험결과와 잘 일치함을 확인하였다.
