This study is devoted to understand the basic characteristics of the flowfield around a train in evacuated tube and to suggest an efficient numerical method to calculate the flowfield. To get steady-state solution in minimum calculation domain, various boundary condition have been tried for steady calculation and have been compared to the solution of unsteady calculation. At the train velocity of 300km/h, the aerodynamic drag results of both calculation method agreed very well. The drag ratio between on the open filed and in the tube from the calculation result by the suggested numerical method lied in the same fitting curve with that from the filed test of high-speed trains running in the line.
Most of reconstruction algorithms for the calculation of temperature distributions in CT (computed tomography)-TDLAS (tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy) are based upon two-line thermometry method. This method gives unstable calculation convergence due to signal noise, bias error, and signal mis-matches. In this study, a new reconstruction algorithm based on cross-correlation for temperature calculation is proposed. The patterns of the optical signals at all wave lengths were used to reconstruct the temperature distribution. Numerical test has been made using phantom temperature distributions. Using these phantom temperature data, absorption spectra for all wave lengths were constructed, and these spectra were regarded as the signals that would be obtained in an actual experiments. Using these virtually generated experimental signals, temperature distribution was once again reconstructed, and was compared with those of the original phantom data. Calculation errors obtained by the newly proposed algorithm were slightly large at high temperatures with small errors at low temperature.

Recently, various attempts are being done to apply off-line programming system to field of paint robot. But most commercial simulation softwares have problems that are slow simulation speed and not support various painting paramenters on simulation. This paper proposes enhanced paint simulation method for off-line programming system. For these, this method used the mathematical model of flux field from a previous research. The flux field has the flux distribution function, which reflects on the feature of paint spray. A previous research derived this flux distribution function for an integral function and calculated paint thickness function for an integral function. But if flux distribution function is defined as an integral function, it is inadequate to use for real-time simulation because a number of calculation is needed for estimation of paint thickness distribution. Therefore, we defined the flux distribution function by numerical method for reducing a mount of calculation for estimation of paint thickness. We derived the equation of paint thickness function analytically for reducing a mount of calculation from the paint distribution function defined by numerical method. In order to prove proposed paint simulation method this paper compares the simulated and measured thickness. From this comparison this paper show that paint thickness distribution is predicted precisely by proposed spray paint simulation process.
YBCO wire has a metal substrate to improve the texture structure and highly conductive layers to increase the cryogenic stability. When AC current flows in the YBCO wire, magnetic field which is generated by the AC current magnetizes the metal substrate and induces the eddy current in the stabilizing layer. To examine the effect of the metal substrate and the conducting layer on the transport current loss of YBCO wire, this paper presents the transport current loss of YBCO wire which has metal substrate and conductive layer. YBCO wire with Ni-W substrate and copper layer were chosen as the model HTS wire for numerical calculation. Finite element method has been used to calculate the transport loss and the results of numerical calculation was compared with analytic calculation suggested by Norris.
For the calculation of foundation settlement it is recommended to take into account so called influence zone inside the subsoil bellow the foundation structure. Influence zone inside the subsoil is the region where the load has a substantial influence on the deformation of the soil skeleton. The soil skeleton is pre-consolidated or over consolidated due to the original geostatic stress state. An excavation changes the original geostatic stress state and it creates the space for the load transferred from upper structure. The theory of elastic layer in Westergard manner is selected for the vertical stress calculation. The depth of influence zone is calculated from the equality of the original geostatic stress and the new geostatic stress due to excavation combined with the vertical stress from the upper structure. Two close formulas are presented for the influence zone calculation. Using ADINA code we carried out several numerical examples to verify the proposed analytical formulas and to enhance their use in civil engineering practice. Otherwise, the FEM code accuracy can be control.
The thermal environment in a small city rapidly deteriorates due to the urbanization and overpopulation. It is important to understand and predict the thermal environment in a city area. The thermal environment is highly affected by the solar radiation and temperature distributions changing over time periodically. To predict the thermal environment precisely, the solar radiation calculation including radiation strength, incidence angle, and thermal radiation between building surface and ground should be considered. In this study, the computational domain includes various artificial structures such as building, ground, asphalt, brick and grass. To consider the solar radiation, the unsteady state numerical calculation is performed from sun rise to mid-day (2:00pm). The numerical methods consist of solar load and one dimensional heat conduction through the boundaries to reduce the computational load and improve the flexibility of the calculation.
The paper presents a numerical analysis of a steel-soil composite (SSC) culvert in the scope of static (dead and live) loads. The Abaqus program based on the finite element method (FEM) was used for calculations. Maximum displacements were obtained in the shell crown, and the largest stresses in the haunches. Calculation results were compared with the experimental ones and previous calculations obtained from the Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis (ARSA) program. The shapes of calculated displacements and stresses are similar to those obtained with the experiment, but the absolute values were generally higher than measured ones. The relative differences of calculated and measured values were in the range of 5-23% for displacements, and 15-42% for stresses. Developed calculation model of the SSC culvert in the Abaqus program allows obtaining reasonable values of internal forces in the culvert. Using both calculation programs, the relative differences for displacements were in the range of 15-39%, and 17-44% for stresses in favour of the Abaqus program. Three design methods (Sundquist-Pettersson, Duncan and CHBDC) were used to calculate the axial thrusts and bending moments. Obtained values were compared with test results. Generally, the design methods have conservative assumptions, especially in the live loads distribution, safety factors and consideration the interaction between soil and steel structure.

In this study, numerical and experimental studies on the nozzle flow in a sub-scale cold flow test were conducted to simulate high altitude condition. In the theoretical calculation, the temperature of the nozzle outlet is calculated to be lower than the liquefaction point, and the fluid exists at the phase change point. Also, numerical analysis result is higher than theory calculation but lower than liquefaction temperature. As a result of cold flow test, it was confirmed that the temperature was much higher than theory and analysis. This is because it assumed that it is adiabatic in the theoretical calculation, but the experiment in the actual environment is not the adiabatic but the heat exchange with the outside exists.

On the basis of the Computational Fluid Dynamics technique (CFD) combined with the overlap grid method, this paper establishes a numerical simulation method to study the problem of ice-propeller interaction in viscous flow and carries out a simulation forecast of the hydrodynamic performance of an ice-class propeller and flow characteristics when in the proximity of milling-shape ice (i.e., an ice block with a groove cut by a high-speed revolving propeller). We use a trimmed mesh in the entire calculation domain and use the overlap grid method to transfer information between the domains of propeller rotation calculation and ice-surface computing. The grid is refined in the narrow gap between the ice and propeller to ensure the accuracy of the flow field. Comparison with the results of the experiment reveals that the error of the hydrodynamic performance is within 5%. This confirms the feasibility of the calculation method. In this paper, we calculate the exciting force of the propeller, analyze the time domain of the exciting force, and obtain the curve of the frequency domain using a Fourier transform of the time-domain curve of the exciting force. The existence of milling-shape ice before the propeller can greatly disturb the wake flow field. Unlike in open water, the propeller bearing capacity shows a downward trend in three stages, and fluctuating pressure is more disordered near the ice.
The reservoir basin bedrock produced significant impact on the long-term service safety of super-high arch dams. It was important for accurately identifying geomechanical parameters and its evolution process of reservoir basin bedrock. The deformation modulus mechanism research methods of reservoir basin bedrock deformation modulus for super-high arch dams was carried out by finite element numerical calculation of the reservoir basin bedrock deformation and in-situ monitoring data analysis. The deformation modulus inversion principle of reservoir basin bedrock in a wide range was studied. The convergence criteria for determining the calculation range of reservoir basin of super-high arch dams was put forward. The implementation method was proposed for different layers and zones of reservoir basin bedrock. A practical engineering of a super-high arch dam was taken as the example.
