Background: The design of deuteron accelerator neutron source facilities requires reliable yield estimation of gamma-rays as well as neutrons from deuteron-induced reactions. We have so foar measured systematically double-differential thick target neutron yields (DDTTNYs) for carbon, aluminum, titanium, copper, niobium, and SUS304 targets. In the neutron data analysis, the events of gamma-rays taken simultaneously were treated as backgrounds. In the present work, we have re-analyzed the experimental data for a thick carbon target with particular attention to gamma-ray events. Materials and Methods: Double-differential thick target gamma-ray yields from carbon irradiated by 5 and 9 MeV deuterons were measured using an NE213 liquid organic scintillator at the Kyushu University Tandem accelerator Laboratory. The gamma-ray energy spectra were obtained by an unfolding method using FORIST code. The response functions of the NE213 detector were calculated by EGS5 incorporated in PHITS code. Results and Discussion: The measured gamma-ray spectra show some pronounced peaks corresponding to gamma-ray transitions between discrete levels in residual nuclei, and the measured angular distributions are almost isotropic for both the incident energies. Conclusion: PHITS calculations using INCL, GEM, and EBITEM models reproduce the spectral shapes and the angular distributions generally well, although they underestimate the absolute gamma-ray yields by about 20%.

Recent major domestic facilities, such as nuclear power plants, many control cables are installed and are degraded by long-term use, but research on deterioration diagnosis is lacking. In the event of a fault in the cable due to deterioration can be developed into a major accident such as the main plant is stopped, so the deterioration diagnostic techniques of high reliability for the cable is required. In this paper, proposes a methodology using a cable resonance that can effectively diagnose the deterioration of the cable. Prior to the test, we developed a setup for stable measuring the characteristics of the cable and it verified the suitable of the measurement set-up in terms of interactivity and reliability, also measured S-parameters applying verified measurement set-up to the cables that deterioration degree is different. Then, we had amplified the difference in resonance frequency between the healthy state and the deteriorated state using connection in a series of measured S-parameters. In a result from the method, we have verified that the more deteriorate the cables is, the more decrease the resonance frequency is. Measured results are justified by inducing the resonance frequency calculation of the cable from the S- parameters represented by the hyperbolic function formula. VNA(Vector Network Analyzer) for S-parameter measurements used in this study is Agilent E5061B and shielded twisted-pair cables was used for deterioration diagnostic test.
Caused by the Cheonanham attack and the Yeonpyeongdo bombardment occurred a few years ago, and the recent North Korea's nuclear test, the war crisis between South and North Korea has been increasing. Accordingly, an interest in obtaining a temporary residential space, for the case of the outbreak of war, where people can reside safely over a period of time has been escalating. However, in the disaster relief planning guidelines of the National Emergency Management Agency, the standards on the temporary residential spaces in preparation for storm and flood or earthquake are included, but the standards on the ones in responding to war are not yet equipped. In particular, the standards on the underground temporary residential spaces that can accommodate massive victims should be developed in preparation. In this study, through a requirements analysis based on the survey of war victims and a comparative analysis between disaster-related laws and regulations, the direction of relevant system improvement for the utilization of temporary residential spaces in responding to war is established.
${\beta}-catenin$ is a key signaling protein which regulates cell signaling and gene transcription. Abnormal activation of ${\beta}-catenin$ is linked to many cancers, particularly with colorectal cancers. Although many genetic and biological studies on $Wnt/{\beta}-catenin$ have been reported and structures of the complex between ${\beta}-catenin$ and its diverse binding partners have been published, many of them have focused on armadillo repeat domain of ${\beta}-catenin$. Both N- and C-terminal domains have been suggested to regulate interactions of ${\beta}-catenin$ with other molecules, but still little is known about the C-terminal unstructured domain. To investigate the structure of this domain, construct of C-terminus was designed and structural studies were performed using size exclusion chromatography (SEC), circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. We observed that not only the purified full-length construct but the purified C-terminal construct also dimerizes in solution by SEC, suggesting that this domain involves in dimerization of ${\beta}-catenin$. CD and fluorescence data indicate its flexibility and structural formation in the presence of membrane environments.

A calculation is presented of air-scattered gamma rays using the modified single-scattering approximation. The air-scattered tissue dose rates are calculated for a general purpose taking into account (a) the buildup and exponential attenuation, (b) the energy spectrum at the position of question and (c) the geometrical scattering volume in three dimensions. These calculations have been further modified to render them applicable to a typical field irradiation facility which is surrounded by a shield wall and in which the source is fitted with a beam collimating device. The results of the calculation include the energy spectra, angular distribution and tissue does rates at source-receiver separation distances of from 35m to 300m. The comparison shows that the present method developed may be generally adequate for the gamma-ray air-scattering problems in field irradiation facilities if energy and angular distribution at the shield are unimportant.
Increasing utilization of radiation and RI (Radioisotope) in nuclear industry including non-power area has achieved sustainable development of radiation industry. Industries are no longer confined by a single technology or abilities but expanded for application gradually. RI-Biomics fields are one of the convergence technology that is recognized on a high-tech industry. Unlike the conventional industry, RI-Biomics field needs to various specialists to perform related task. There is no domestic training program to educate the whole process. This study aims to suggest the plan for improvement of practical skills for specialists in RI-Biomics through development of our training program. For this purpose, we have first investigated the opinion about classification scheme from experts and then analyzed the results in order to reflecting our training program. Based on analyzed results, conformity assessment was executed to organize curriculum through status of constructed device and instructor in domestic. Our training program was performed jointly with KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute). RI-Biomics center is prepared with facilities of overall experiment to improve quality of education. Due to the fact that specialists have routine task, we organized a five-day short course to reflect temporal difficulties. We performed a trial operation to 6 participants in RI-Biomics field. Through the survey for the specialists who participated in the program, we evaluated the efficiency of our training program. The results showed that participants were satisfied with the organized curriculum and educational materials. Therefore, our program is expected to be utilized as basic research data to develop feasible program for policy development and to improve practical skills in RI-Biomics.
Solar energy has been known as a successful alternative energy source, however it requires a large area to build power generation facilities compared to other energy sources such as nuclear power. Weather factors such as rainy weather or night time impact on solar power generation because of lack of insolation and sunshine. In addition, solar power generation is vulnerable to external elements such as changes in temperature and fine dust. There are four seasons in the Republic of Korea hereby variations of temperature, insolation and sunshine are broad. Currently factors that cause find dust are continuously flowing in to Korea from abroad. In order to build a solar power plant, a large area is required for a limited domestic land hereby selecting the optimal location for the plant that maximizes the efficiency of power generation is necessary. Therefore, this research analyze the optimal site for solar power generation plant by implementing analytic hierarchy process based on weather factors such as fine dust. In order to extract weather factors that impact on solar power generation, this work conducts a case study which includes a correlation analysis between weather information and power generation.

A shear wall is a structural member designed to effectively resist in-plane lateral forces, such as strong winds and earthquakes. Due to its efficiency and stability, shear walls are often installed in residential buildings and essential facilities such as nuclear power plants. In this research, to predict the results of the shaking table test of the three-story shear wall RC structure hosted by the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, three types of numerical modeling techniques are proposed: Preliminary, Calibrated 1, and Calibrated 2 models, in order of improvement. For the proposed models, an earthquake of the 2016 Gyeongju, South Korea (peak ground acceleration of 0.28 g) and its amplified earthquake (peak ground acceleration of 0.50 g) are input. The response spectra of the measuring points are obtained by numerical analysis. Good agreement is observed in the comparisons between the experiment results and the simulation conducted on the finally adopted numerical model, Calibrated 2. In the process of improving the model, this paper investigates the influences of the mode shape, material properties, and boundary conditions on the structure's seismic behavior.
The purpose of this research is to analyze the radiation shielding effect of soft magnetic material to confirm the applicability to the military facilities. The soft magnetic material is known to be effective in shielding EMP. If this material is also effective in radiation shielding, it is expected that it has a lot of applicability in military protection. In particular, this material contains boron, so it will be effective in shielding neutrons. In this research, experiments were conducted using Cs-137 and Co-60 sources to check the gamma ray shielding effect. In addition, the Monte Carlo N-Particle(MCNP) modeling was applied to evaluate the gamma ray and neutron shielding effect of a military command tent. As a result, as the soft magnetic thickness increased, the shielding performance improved according the linear attenuation law of gamma ray and neutron. Therefore, this research verified that the application of soft magnetic material for military purposes in radiation shielding would be effective.

An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack on a nuclear weapon or the airlift of an electronic bomb affects weapons systems, information devices, wired and wireless communication equipment, and power supply equipment. It can lead to confusion on the battlefield. The current standards for EMP protection when applied to the military are centered on fixed and mobile facilities and equipment. It is, however, important to study EMP protection for a single tactical unit centered on the weapon system. In this study, EMP protection standards were established for command and control, maneuvering and firepower systems vulnerable to EMPs, focusing on battle tanks with mobility, firepower, and shock force. Also, specific development plans for EMP protection capabilities are proposed, including the shielding and blocking of EMPs. Through the study, the Korean government intends to ensure a unit's command and control under an EMP attack as well as preserve the viability of a unit's personnel and guarantee the conditions for the execution of a mission.
