Effects of Operating Variables on Separation Rate and Separation Efficiency in Ash Separator for Solid Fuel Chemical Looping Combustor (고체연료 매체순환연소기를 위한 회재분리기에서 분리속도 및 분리효율에 미치는 조업변수들의 영향)

  • To develop an ash separator for the solid fuel chemical looping combustion system, effects of operating variables such as solid injection nozzle velocity, diameter of solid injection nozzle, gap between solid injection line and vent line, vent line inside diameter, and solid intake height on solid separation rate and solid separation efficiency were measured and discussed using heavy and coarse particle and light and fine particles mixture as bed material in an acrylic fluidized bed apparatus. The solid separation rate increased as the solid injection nozzle velocity and the diameter of solid injection nozzle increased. However, the solid separation rate decreased as the gap between solid injection line and vent line, the vent line inside diameter, and the solid intake height increased. The solid separation efficiency was in inverse proportion to the solid separation rate. In this study, we could get high solid separation rate up to 2.39 kg/hr with 91.6% of solid separation efficiency.

  • In the present study, reduction of harmful exhaust gas in a diesel engine using stratified injection system of dual fuel (diesel fuel and methanol) was tried. The nozzle and fuel injection pump of conventional injection system were remodeled to inject dual fuel in order from the same injector. The quantity of each fuel was controlled by micrometers, which were mounted at rack of injection pumps. The injection ratio of dual fuel was certificated by volumetric ratio in injection quantity test. Cylinder pressure and exhaust gas were measured and analyzed under various supply condition of duel fuel. We confirmed that combustion of dual fuel was performed successful1y by using modified injection system in a D.I. diesel. Soot and NOx are simultaneously reduced by stratified injection without large deterioration of thermal efficiency, but THC and CO are relatively increased.

  • The dual-throat nozzle is an extremely effective method in the thrust vectoring control field, utilizing another convergent section to connect with the divergent part of the conventional convergent-divergent nozzle. In the present research, the numerical simulation is conducted to investigate the effects of the injection angle on thrust vectoring performance in a 3D supersonic nozzle. Five injection angles are discussed and core performance variations are analyzed, including the deflection angle, injected mass flow ratio, system resultant thrust ratio, efficiency, Mach number contour and streamline on the symmetry plane, and Mach number contours at different slices. Meaningful conclusions are offered for fighter jet designers.

  • We have conducted a numerical simulation under two-dimensional unsteady conditions in order to analyze the effect according to the injection angle and velocity of the $CO_2$ agent nozzle which is one of the elements for the fixed type $CO_2$ fire extinguishing system installed in a ship on the characteristics of flow and $CO_2$ concentration distribution. The flow fields and concentration fields were measured and analyzed. We can found that the difference of flow patterns according to the conditions of $CO_2$ agent injection nozzle, and in all the conditions of $CO_2$ agent injection nozzle, the iso-concentration line was expanded from the region at which vortex was generated to the surroundings. We can expected that the intensity of the wall jet on the bottom floor was generated differently and the iso-concentration lines were expanded or shrunk according to the angle of $CO_2$ agent injection nozzle. In case of increasing $CO_2$ agent injection velocity maintaining the flow quantity of the $CO_2$ agent injection equally, the iso-concentration line of $CO_2$ agent on bottom floor can be formed more higher than in case of decreasing $CO_2$ agent injection velocity.

Effect of Nozzle Shape and Injection Pressure on Performance of Hybrid Nozzle (노즐 형상 및 분사 압력이 하이브리드 노즐 성능에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The fire extinguishing performance of hybrid nozzle systems is improved by injecting an extinguishing agent concentrically into the target site and, in this study, water mist is used as a water curtain to confine the droplets of the agent. In this study, we numerically investigated the effect of the foundation angle and injection pressure on the performance of a hybrid nozzle by evaluating the mean radius of the volume fractions of the agent and water mists. An experiment involving a water mist nozzle was carried out to validate the numerical method and then the droplet behaviors, e.g., stochastic collision, coalescence and breakup, were calculated with 2-way interaction Discrete Particle Modeling (DPM) in the steady state for the hybrid nozzle system. The mean radius of the water mists increased by about 40 %, whereas that of the agent decreased by about 21 %, when the injection pressure was increased from 30 bar to 60 bar. In addition, the mean radius of the agent increased by about 24 % as the foundation angle of the hybrid nozzle head increased from $30^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$. As a result, it can be inferred that the injection angle and pressure are important factors for hybrid water mist designs.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to design an auto showering system regarding bed type for old people or bedridden patients. Background: The rapid growth concerning the aging population leads to an increase in elderly bedridden patients living in senior care centers and hospitals where care givers have difficulty bathing older people with limited mobility. Method: In this study, a showering equipment for experiment was based on anthropometric and researching existing products. The nozzle position was optimized by showering tests and simulations using showering equipment. Results: The problems regarding the existing products were analyzed and the nozzle position was optimized through showering tests. The number, position, and spraying angle of the nozzle were optimized through showering simulations. The automatic showering system concerning bed type was designed by considering their results. Conclusion: When designing an automatic showering system, the most important design element involves determining the position of nozzle and angle of water injection and the number of nozzles. The system was developed by applying the results through user centered-research. Application: The user centered-research for developing products was applied directly in order to develop automatic baths, showering products etc. Furthermore, it was also available to be applied towards senior friendly products.

  • In his study the simulation was carried out by simplifing and modeling dividing into fuel injectioin pump high pressure pipe and fuel injection valve in the fuel injection system of a low speed marine diesel engine. A computer simulation model was developed using the method of characteristics to analyze the unsteady flow in the fuel injection system considering cavitation and variation of fuel density and bulk modulus. Comparison was commenced between the calculated data and experimental data of pressure and injection quantity at the high pressure distributor in fuel injection system for the training ship "M/V hanara" the effects of the high pressure pipe length diameter plunger diameter nozzle openning pressure were also investigated by simulating results.g results.

Status and Design of Rapid-mix for Mechanisms of Alum coagulation (급속(急速) 혼화공정(混和工程) 현황(現況) 및 개선(改善) 사례(事例) 연구(硏究))

  • An improving example for traditional rapid mix system was studied in the base of mechanisms of alum coagulation. Local status of the major water treatment plants was also investigated and evaluated for upgrading these plants. A new design and operating criterium for rapid mix system was proposed to velocity gradient, G of $1,000-1,500sec^{-1}$ and detention time, t of 1 sec from the results of experiments and literature reviews. Comparing the present rapid mix system to this criterium, apparent difference existed between them. In this study, for improving Seongnam water treatment plant, a design criterium of velocity gradient, and detention time was set to $1,100sec^{-1}$, 1 sec, respectively. A new rapid mix system adopted the nozzle injection countcurrently cross the inlet pipe to the whole area. The injection velocity was 17m/s, nozzle diameter was 1.0mm, and number of nozzle was 70. The new modified system without running present four 75 HP agitators was able to improve water quality(based on sedimentation effluent) by 15-35% and to reduce electrical energy by 98%.

  • Computational investigation was conducted to examine the performance of a high pressure common-rail fuel injection system which is used to power a passenger car direct injection (Dl) diesel engine. The pipe flows were modeled by one dimensional wave equation and solved by implicit FDM Each volume of injector was considered as chambers with orifice nozzle in connections. These simulation results were compared with the experimental data of Ganser Hydromag. The comparison of needle life and rate of injection between simulation data and experimental data showed quite a good agreement Different shape of injection rate can be made by adjusting the size of inlet orifice and exit orifice in the piston chamber The pilot injection was accomplished by adjusting command signal.

  • The demand for the precision rubber products has been rapidly increasing with the recent growth of industries. And the requirement for the productivity and the quality calls out for the injection molding machines with the precision machining ability as well as the high productivity. Especially modern automobile industry is in urgent need of developing injection molding machines for the high quality rubber products with high productivity. And the inability of the domestic companies to meet the standards causes importing foreign machines and as a result spending good amount of dollars. It is extremely important to develop competitive machines and strengthen the infrastructure of the related industries. In this paper the functions and the structure of a automatic multi-nozzle injection molding machine has been studied to set up a proper test system for the precision rate and the reliability of the machines, which can help build the machines to meet the request of the industry.
