The Tongdo temple have been transformed continuously since its first establishment about 1300 years ago. Nevertheless three critical elements specified by 'Jajangyulsa', founder of the temple have not varied over the times but rather strengthened and strongly combined. All elements and doctrines of the religion coexist and form a harmony within the whole of the temple. This researcher examined what changes, or combinations, in spatial formation were sought for such unique structures of the Tongue temple by focusing mainly on the Sangrojun area of the temple to obtain the following findings. First. unlike a work by a Japanese researcher 'Sekino Tadashi', the east yard of the main building was found located on the section line which corresponded to the separation line of Yungkuncheokdo(營建尺度=measure running) from the edge of the Keumkangkyedan(金剛戒壇 =Buddhist platform) embankment to the corner column of the Kamrodang. This was confirmed as a result of the review of photos shown in [Chosun Kojukdobo]. Second, the number of stairs used for the Keumkangkyedan was thought to become three when the temple was firstly restored in 1379 as a result that this researcher reviewed Chinese literature 'DoSun' and [Kyedandokyung(戒壇圖經)], records by 'Lee saek' and 'Jung Shihan', studies of Yungkun measure and actual changes in the temple. Then the temple was forth restored in 1705 when the second of the stairs was changed in area and height and at the same time grounded hard for a space for a Buddhist service. Third, the roof of the main building was probably changed in shape during the Koryo period when the plane structure, furnish arrangement, emphasized front, stone lanterns of the building and political factors of that time were all considered. Fourth, the main building was Initially designed to provide a Buddhist sermon service which was assumedly followed by a similar service at a Keumkangkyedan. Thus the main building had a small window on the northern side which might be opened up to look out or otherwise go outside like a door. However, the window was probably locked up like a surrounding wall since the main building was entirely repaired after the end of Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592.
Astragalus membranaceus has a long history of medicinal use in Chinese herbal medicine. It has been shown to have immunostimulant, tonic, antioxidant, antiperspirant, diuretic, anti-diabetic, expectorant properties, and a supplementary medicine during cancer therapy. In this study, we investigated the effect of anti-oxidation of Astragalus membranaceus root extract. The anti-oxidative activities of water, 80% methanol, and 100% methanol extracts from Astragalus membranaceus were analyzed by DPPH free radical scavenging activity, Superoxide dismutase-like activity, reducing power, and crude ash. The water extract demonstrated to be more effective than methanol extract for a DPPH radicals scavenging activities and reducing power. Superoxide dismutase-like activity showed higher efficiency in 80% methanol extract. Our results indicate that Astragalus membranaceus extracts could be used as a source of antioxidant ingredients in the food industry.
Magoja is a jacket for men and women. Magoja was worn between the jacket, jogori and the coat durumagi; that is over the jacket and under the coat. In the 19th century, Daewon-kun, who was wearing maqua, was in China and he came back to Korea. So, it was believed that the origin of magoja was from maqua from Qing. But, there were differences between magoja and maqua in their design. Therefore, I researched the origin of magoja and tried to know the design and the method of wearing magoja in the Chosun dynasty. The results are as follows. The design of magoja, especially its collar, was different from Chinese maqua. As analyzed above, it is difficult to regard the origin of magoja as deriving from Daewon-kun's maqua, which he wore when he went to Qing. Magoja-style jacket can be found from many old pictures. The collar of those jacket, whose style was waonsam-git unlike the present-day magoja, is consistent with the collar of sagyusam or baeja. And this kind of git style had existed for a long period of time as already studied in bangryungbangbi. Furthermore, the origin of this kind of jacket dated back to the maeksu of the Sung Dynasty; maek meaning Koguryo, maeksu was understood to indicate the style of the Koguryo jacket of short sleeves for the convenience of horseback riding. Maeksu, which varied in its kind and style, had been used as the equestrian clothes in China and was assumed to be particularly put on widely during the Yuan and Sung Dynasties. Maeksu continued to exist as daegeumeui during the Ming Dynasty but, later called magua, it was worn more widely ding the Qing Dynasty of the Manchus. This kind of maeksu or magua was the jacket which could be put on the coat and this style of wearing it during the Chosun Dynasty could be confirmed by the pictures. Therefore, magoja is not the jacket which was all of sudden derived from Qing's magua but one of traditional Korean clothes of the northern provinces which had existed for a long period of time. And magoja seemed to be put on more widely during the latter part of the Chosun Dynasty because of the influence of Qing's magua.

In a previous study, three larval cuticle protein genes were cloned from the mulberry longicorn beetle, Apriona germari (Comp. Biochem. Physiol. B 136, 803-811, 2003). In the present study, the genomic structures of these three larval cuticle protein genes (AgLCP9.2, AgLCP12.6 and AgLCP12.3) were elucidated. All three cuticle protein genes consist of one intron and two exons. Southern blot analysis of genomic DNA suggested that three cuticle protein genes are a single copy gene. In addition, a novel larval cuticle protein gene, AgLCP10.6, was cloned from A. germari in this study. The AgLCP10.6 cDNA contains an ORF of 300 nucleotides that are capable of encoding a 100-amino acid polypeptide with a predicted molecular mass of 10.6 kDa. The amino acid sequence deduced from the AgLCP10.6 cDNA contained a type-specific consensus sequence identifiable in other insect cuticle proteins and is most homologous to Drosophila melanogaster cuticle protein ACP65A (51 % protein sequence identity). Northern blot analysis revealed that AgLCP10.6 showed epidermis-specific expression.
This study aims to examine the early use of Da-bo tap and their transformation by analyzing the various meanings of the term pagoda in Chinese translations, the Sanskrit version of the Lotus Sutra, as well as Dabotap in the Mogao Caves of Dunhuang. In addition, we aim to highlight changes in Dabotap usage, which started out as residential spaces, but transformed into burial spaces over time. The details can be summarized as follows. First, early Buddhist monuments were usually either pagodas serving as burial places for the dead or shrines that were not. A Dabotap is a type of pagoda enshrining the body of Prabhutaratna, and was initially used as a residential space, rather than a burial place for the dead. Second, the terms stupa and caitya are clearly distinguished from each other in the Sanskrit scriptures, and stupa is also further classified into dhatu, sarisa, and atmabhava based on the object being enshrined. In Gyeon-bo-tab-pum, the preconditions for caitya to transform into stupa is presented by explaining that worshipping the space enshrining the body of Prabhutaratna is worthy of the same status as the space enshrining sarira. Third, the Mogao Caves of Dunhuang had been depicted from the Western Wei of the Northern Dynasties until the time of the Yuan Dynasty. It was used as a residential space until the early Sui Dynasty, but was used as both residence and burial places until the Tang Dynasty when pagodas were first being constructed with wheel or circles forms on top, which then gradually changed into stupa (grave towers).

In North-East Asia, Port traffic in Asia-North America sea route has been rapidly increasing due to economic growth in China and ASEAN. Furthermore, the major shipping companies directly call at northern chinese ports like Qingdao, Dalian and Tianjin without passing through Korean ports on Asia-North America sea route. To acquire a port traffic and develop a hub port, governments in North-East Asia have intensively invested in the development of port. Therefore, Busan new port and Gwangyang port have been developed in Korea. According to the medium-long term development planning, the port should give a enormous budget investment for the port facilities construction. So the inaccurate estimation may lead to the unreasonable port development policy. Firstly, based on the estimation of Chiang Bong-Gyu & Yang Hang Jin(2005), this study gave a comparison with the estimation of Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries(2001) and OSC/Glori(2005). Secondly, taking into account the influence factors for port traffic, this study made an estimation of port traffic for Busan new port. On the basis of this estimation, this study is compared with the estimation of Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries(2001) and OSC/Glori(2005). In conclusion, in case of the development of Busan new port, based on the estimation of Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries(2001), this study should the high possibility that the Busan new port will be serious lack of the port facilities in the year of 2011. And according to the OSC/Glori(2005)'s estimation result, there is a lack of the port facilities, though we have modified the port investment plan.
In our present investigations, distributions of Korean Aceraceae with single genus composed of 16 species, 14 varieties and 1 form were studied. Distributional atlases were made by UTM grid map and drawing methods have been previously described (Distribution Atlas of Plants of Korea I, II, and III). Acer okamotoanum and A. takesimense of Korean endemic species are commonly distributed in Dagelet Island but the latter also in such islands as Quelpart, Wan-Do and Heucksan-Do. A. palmatum var. nakaii is found in the middle and the northern parts of the subtropics, and A. micro-sieboldianum and A. nudricarpum restricted to the middle part of the country are endemic species of Korea. A. barbinerve and A. tegmentosum as species from the north are distributed to the top of Mt. Chiri in the south and are also found in Mt. Nangrim and Baiktu in the north. A. ginnala and A. mono are commonly distributed in Liaotung-Pantao and Shantung-Pantao, or Chinese peninsulas, and South Manchuria with Korean Peninsula. A. barbinerve, A. tegmentosum, A. triflorum, A. tschonoskii and A. ukurunduense in south Manchuria, north Manchuria and Korea are florae derived from Manchuria, and A. japonicum, A. momo var. ambiguum, A. mono var. savatieri, A. palmatum var. matsumurae and A. ukurunduense var. pilosum appear in Korea and Japan.
Distribution of anchovy (Engraulis japonica) eggs and larvae was studied in the southwestern sea of Korea in July and November, 2001. Anchovy eggs were found mainly in the oceanic fronts of the northern sea area which were formed in the offshore area of Chuja Is. Bogil Is. and Chungsan Is. from west to east. Anchovy eggs were also found in the surrounding sea of Cheju Is. in the southern sea front area. The waters were highly heterogeneous and the water masses were bordered based on temperature $(10.8-26.4^{\circ}C)$ and salinity (28.9-33.7 psu). The anchovy eggs were mostly found outside of the China Coastal Water, where salinity was below 31 psu. The anchovy eggs were not found in November. Abundance of the anchovy larvae were higher in July than November. Temperature ranged from $10.8^{\circ}C\;to\;25.9^{\circ}C\;and\;15.9^{\circ}C\;to\;20.5^{\circ}C$, and salinity ranged from 28.9psu to 34.1psu and 33.2psu to 34.1psu in July and November, respectively. Non-swimmable larvae were found throughout the whole area of the southwestern sea of Korea. The area beyond the oceanic front had anchovy eggs dispersed from the spawning grounds to offshore. Dispersion pattern showed that the eggs were transported from the spawning grounds with a process of advection and diffusion based on the flow pattern which were caused by winds. Distribution pattern of the anchovy eggs and larvae may be used for the prediction of oceanic currents in each area.
Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine whether susceptibility to oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is related to polymorphisms in the u-PA gene. Methods: We examined the rs2227564 C/T and rs2227562 G/A single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 196 OSCC patients and 201 age- and gender-matched controls via direct sequencing and PCR-RFLP methods. Results: Significant differences were found in allelic and genotypic distributions of the rs2227564 and rs2227562 loci when comparing cases and controls. In addition, logistic analyses indicated that the rs2227564 C/T genotype was related to a 1.52-fold increased risk of developing OSCC (adjusted OR=1.521, 95%CI: 1.144~2.022, P=0.004). Linkage disequilibrium analysis was conducted and no association between the two loci was found (D'=0.031, $r^2$=0.000). Conclusions: Our findings provide evidence that the rs2227564 C/T SNP in the u-PA gene is associated with the development of OSCC.

Hyperosmotic pressure increased specific antibody productivity ($q_{Ab}$) of recombinant CHO cells (SH2-0.32) while it depressed cell growth. Thus, the use of hyperosmolar medium did not increase the maximum antibody concentration substantially. To overcome this drawback, the feasibility of biphasic culture strategy was investigated. In the biphasic culture, cells were first cultivated in the standard medium with physiological osmolality(294 mOsm/kg) for cell growth. When cells reached the late exponential phase of growth, the spent standard medium was replaced with the fresh hyperosmolar medium (522 mOsm/kg) for antibody production. The ($q_{Ab}$) in growth phase with the standard medium was 2.1 ${\mu}g/10^6cell/day$ while the ($q_{Ab}$) in antibody production phase with the hyperosmolar medium (522 mOsm/kg) was 11.1 ${\mu}g/10^6cell/day$. Northern blot analysis showed a positive relationship between the relative contenet of Ig mRNA and ($q_{Ab}$), indicating that transcriptional regulation was involved in the response of rCHO cells to hyperosmotic pressure. Due to the enhanced ($q_{Ab}$) and increased cell concentration in biphasic culture, the maximum antibody concentration obtained in biphasic culture with 522 mOsm/kg medium exchange was 161% higher than that obtained in batch culture with the standard medium. Taken together, simple biphasic culture strategy based on hyperosmotic culture for improved foreign protein production from rCHO cells is effective in improving antibody production of rCHO cells.
