Two versions of anisotropic k-ε turbulence model are incorporated in the modified k-ε model of Sohn et al. to avoid the need for the experimental normal stress value in the model and applied to convergent and divergent flows with strong and adverse pressure gradients in the plane of symmetry of a body of revolution. The models are the nonlinear k-ε model of Speziale and the anisotropic model of Nisizima & Yoshizawa. All of the models yield satisfactory results for relatively complex flow on a plane-of-symmetry boundary layer. The results of the models are compared with those results of experimental normal stress value.
Knowledge of airflow characteristics in nasal cavities is essential to understand the physiological and pathological aspects of nasal breathing. Several studies have utilized physical models of the healthy nasal cavity to investigate the relationship between nasal anatomy and airflow. In our laboratory, there have been a series of experimental investigations on the nasal airflow in normal, abnormal, and deformed nasal cavity models cavity models by PIV under both constant and periodic flow conditions. In this time normal and several deformed nasal cavity models, which simulate surgical operation, Turbinectomy, are investigated numerically by the FVM general purpose code and PIV analysis. The comparisons of these results are appreciated. Dense CT data and careful treatment of model surface under the ENT doctor's advice provide more sophisticated cavity models. The Davis (LaVision Co.) code is used for PIV flow analysis. Average and RMS distributions have been obtained for inspirational and expirational nasal airflows in the normal and deformed nasal cavities.
The present study proposes a modified temperature-dependent non-Newtonian viscosity model and investigates the flow characteristics and heat transfer enhancement of the viscoelastic non-Newtonian fluid in a 2:1 rectangular duct. The combined effects of temperature dependent viscosity, buoyancy, and secondary flow caused by the second normal stress difference are considered. Calculated Nusselt numbers by the modified temperature-dependent viscosity model give good agreement with the experimental results. The heat transfer enhancement of viscoelastic fluid in a rectangular duct is highly dependent on the secondary flow caused by the magnitude of second normal stress difference.

This paper presents a new operation scheme of UPFC to minimize both generation costs and active power losses in a normal operation state of power system. In a normal operation, cost minimization is a matter of primary concern among operating objectives. This paper considers two kinds of costs, generation costs and transmission losses. The total generation cost of active powers can be minimized by optimal power flow, and active power losses in the transmission system can be also minimized by power flow control of UPFC incorporated with minimization of generation costs. In order to determine amounts of active power reference of each UPFC required for the cost minimization, an iterative optimization algorithm based on the power flow calculation using the decoupled UPFC model is proposed. For verification of the proposed method, intensive studies have been performed on a 3-unit 6-bus system equipped with a UPFC.
This study was to investigate diadochokinetic (DDK) rate, regularity and mean flow rate of articulation valves in dysarthria. DDK rate, mean airflow rate (MFR) and regularity of DDK syllable repetitions of vocal function /ihi/, tongue function /ta/, velopharyngeal function /bm/, and labial function /pa/ in 24 normal and dysarthric speakers were measured. Aerophone Ⅱ and Motor Speech Profile were used for data recording and analysis. The results of the findings were as follows: First, there were significant differences between the dysarthria and the normal group in DDK rate. DDK rates in ataxic dysarthria were the lowest and spastic, flaccid, and hypokinetic dysarthria followed in sequence. Second, there was a significant difference between the dysarthria and the normal group in DDK regularity. Third, there was a significant difference between dysarthria groups and normal group in DDK MFR. Finally, there was a significant difference between the 4 groups of dysarthria and the normal group in DDK air flow tracking. The results of this study can be guidelines for normal DDK rate, regularity and flow rate in dysarthria groups. In addition, their differential diagnoses and descriptions are important to make a decision on medical and behavioral management of the individuals with disorders according to DDK characteristics.
Wind tunnel experiments were conducted under highly turbulent and disturbed flow conditions over a solid/perforated plate with a long splitter plate in its plane of symmetry. The effect of varied level of perforation of the normal plate on fluctuating velocities and fluctuating pressures measured across and along the separation bubble was studied. The different perforation levels of the normal plate; that is 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% are studied. The Reynolds number based on step height was varied from $4{\times}10^3$ to $1.2{\times}10^4$. The shape and size of the bubble vary with different perforation level of the normal plate that is to say the bubble is reduced both in height and length up to 30% perforation level. For higher perforation of the normal plate, bubble is completely swept out. The peak turbulence value occurs around 0.7 to 0.8 times the reattachment length. The turbulence intensity values are highest for the case of solid normal plate (bleed air is absent) and are lowest for the case of 50% perforation of the normal plate (bleed air is maximum in the present study). From the analysis of data it is observed that $\sqrt{\overline{u^{{\prime}2}}}/(\sqrt{\overline{u^{{\prime}2}}})_{max}$, (the ratio of RMS velocity fluctuation to maximum RMS velocity fluctuation), is uniquely related with dimensionless distance y/Y', (the ratio of distance normal to splitter plate to the distance where RMS velocity fluctuation is half its maximum value) for all the perforated normal plates. It is interesting to note that for 50% perforation of the normal plate, the RMS pressure fluctuation in the flow field gets reduced to around 60% as compared to that for solid normal plate. Analysis of the results show that the ratio [$C^{\prime}_p$ max/$-C_{pb}(1-{\eta})$], where $C^{\prime}_p$ max is the maximum coefficient of fluctuating pressure, $C_{pb}$ is the coefficient of base pressure and ${\eta}$ is the perforation level (ratio of open to total area), for surface RMS pressure fluctuation levels seems to be constant and has value of about 0.22. Similar analysis show that the ratio $[C^{\prime}_p$ max/$-C_{pb}(1-{\eta})]$ for flow field RMS pressure fluctuation levels seems to be constant and has a value of about 0.32.
Recently the diameter of the 5MW wind turbine reaches 126m, and the tower height is nearly the same with the wind turbine diameter. The blade will experience periodic inflow oscillation due to blade rotation inside the ground shear flow region, that is, the inflow velocity is maximum at uppermost position and minimum at lowermost position. In this study we compare the aerodynamic data between two inflow conditions, i.e, uniform flow and normal wind profile. From the computed results all of the relative errors for oscillating amplitudes increased due to the ground shear flow effect. Especially My at hub and $F_x$, $M_y$, $M_z$ at LSS increased enormously. It turns out that the aerodynamic analysis including the ground shear flow effect must be considered for fatigue load analysis.

This study aims to propose a new model axial flow fan which attachs centrifugal blades, and to investigate the effect of centrifugal blades on the performance improvement of new model axial flow fan. A numerical simulation has been conducted using STAR-CD commercial code to solve the three dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equation for high Reynolds number $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulent model. Numerical simulation is carried out to investigate the detail phenomenon in the flow field and performance characteristics of new model and normal model fan. Calculation results are compared with normal model's results to investigate which centrifugal blades effect on velocity profile and pressure distribution at various flow field positions. and calculation results show that new model fan can improve the performance of total pressure.
A finite volume method (FVM) base on the SIMPLE algorithm as the pressure correction strategy and the traditional staggered mesh is used to investigate steady, fully developed flow of Oldroyd-3-constant fluids through a duct with square cross-section. Both effects of the two viscoelastic material parameters, We and ${\mu}$, on pattern and strength of the secondary flow are investigated. An amusing sixteen vortices pattern of the secondary flow, which has never been reported, is shown in the present work. The reason for the changes of the pattern and strength of the secondary flow is discussed carefully. We found that it is variation of second normal stress difference that causes the changes of the pattern and strength of the secondary flow.
Using wind tunnel, experimental approaches were employed to investigate fluidelastic instability of tube bundles, subjected to uniform cross flow. There are several flow-induced vibration excitation mechanisms, such as fluidelastic instability, periodic wake shedding resonance, turbulence-induced excitation and acoustic resonance, which could cause excessive vibration in shell-and tube heat exchanges. Fluidelastic is the most important vibration excitation mechanism for heat exchanger tube bundles subjected to cross flow. The system comprised of cantilevered flexible cylinder(s) and rigid cylinders of normal square array, In order to see the characteristics of flow in tube bundles, particle image velocimetry was used. From a practical design point of view, Fluidelastic instability may be expressed simply in terms of dimensionless flow velocity and dimensionless mass-damping. The threshold flow velocity for dynamic instability of cylinder rows is evaluated and the data for design guideline is proposed for the tube bundles of normal square array.
