The purpose of this studied was the comparison with shoulder girdle muscles of isokinetic evaluation in the spinal cord injury group, and adults normal group. Data was collected from 20 cases spinal cord injury from January 10. 1994 to February 10, 1995 in a Chungnam University hospital and adults normal group to 20 cases. The results were as follows; 1. Low speeds peak torque was higher spinal cord group than normal group shoulder girdle muscles of flexor, extensor, external rotator showed statistically significant in spinal cord injury group(p<0.05). Against normal groups shoulder girdle muscles of internal rotator showed statistically significant in normal group(p<0.05). 2. High speeds peak torque was higher spinal cord group than normal group shoulder girdle muscles of flexor, extensor, showed statistically significant in spinal cord injury group(p<0.05). 3. High speeds total work was higher spinal cord group than normal group shoulder girdle muscles of flexor, extensor, external rotator showed statistically significant in spinal cord injury group(p<0.05).(p<0.01). Against normal group shoulder girdle muscles of internal rotator showed statistically significant in normal group(p<0.05).
To explore the relationship between weight status and food intake pattern, the Nutrition Survey results of the 2001 National Health and Nutrition Survey were analyzed. Dietary intake data of Korean adults aged 20 to 64. years who participated in the 2001 National Health and Nutrition Survey, was used along with their demographic data. Subjects were classified into 4 groups based on the BMI value of subjects: underweight, normal, overweight and obese. For male adults, obese subjects had significantly higher mean intake of energy, protein, carbohydrates, and fat than normal subjects. In addition, obese male adults consumed more animal foods, especially more meats, than normal subjects. However, females obese subjects did not show higher intake of energy or fat. Although obese male adults showed higher energy intake, calcium and iron intake per 1000 kcal was lower than normal adults. Average calcium intake in females was low; about 70% of RDA regardless of obesity level. In addition, riboflavin and Vitamin A intake was lower in overweight and obese female than in normal females. Percentage of subjects with low fruit and vegetable intake (< 400 g per day) was also high in female subjects. These results showed that food and nutrient intake patterns of obese population were different between male and female adults. These dietary intake patterns need to be considered in developing and implementing nutrition policy and intervention programs to prevent and control obesity. Moreover, the National Survey and monitoring system should be developed for continuous and effective investigation on the relationship between obesity and dietary intake.
This study compared pitch range, speech rate, pause, intonation type and boundary tones of four sentences produced by five transgenders (male to female) to those of twenty normal adults. Voice analysis was done by Praat (version 4.049). Results indicated that there was a difference in pitch range, speech rate, pause, intonation type and boundary tones among the 3 groups(transgenders, normal males and normal females). Especially, transgenders indicated boundary tones more frequently than normal adults.
A roentgenocephalometric approach was performed by the author for the purpose of investigating cranio-facial complex of normal Korean female adults. Thirty roentgenocephalograms of the Korean female adults with normal occlusion among one thousand and two hundreds of samples were selected for this research. Standards of each items of angular and linear measurements on lateral view and linear measurements in P-A view were figured out. In some items, co-relations were traced to search reciprocal relationships. Some of the measurements were compared with other reports.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics for cohesion in the narratives of fluent aphasics. Ten fluent aphasics and ten normal adults matched chronological-age and education level with aphasics participated in this study. Story retelling task was given to the participants individually. And all narratives they produced were recorded and transcribed for analysis. The frequency of cohesive markers and the rate of accuracy were analyzed. The result were as follows; (1) The fluent aphasics used cohesive devices significantly less than the normal adult group, and the rate of accuracy of cohesive devices used was lower than the normal adults. (2) Both groups used lexical cohesion more than pro-forms and ellipsis, and the difference of two groups was larger in lexical cohesion than pro-forms and ellipsis. (3) The fluent aphasics used lexical cohesion more accurately than pro-forms and ellipsis but the normal adults used all three cohesive markers accurately. The difference of two groups was large in pro-forms and ellipsis.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the unstable wall squat exercise and stable bridge exercise on posture in normal adults. Methods: The subjects of this study were 34 university students who were normal health adults, equally and randomly allocated to a unstable wall squat exercise group (male 7, female 10), an experimental group, and a stable bridge exercise group, a control group. Both did so for 30 minutes three times per week over a six-weeks period. Using Back Mapper, their trunk inclination (TIN), trunk imbalance (TIM), pelvic position (PPO), pelvic torsion (PTO), pelvic rotation (PRO) and the position of their scapula (PSA) were evaluated. Results: When the pre-test and post-test results of experimental group and control group were compared, statistically significant differences in TIN, PTO and PSA of experimental group were seen. Conclusion: Unstable wall squat exercise accompanied by abdominal drawing-in may be applied as a method to correct the posture in normal adults.
The purpose of the this study was to establish preliminary data on the characteristic of dysfluency in monologue. The subjects were 30 normal speaking adults(15 males and 15 females), aged from 18 to 30 and 30 normal speaking children, aged from 8 to 10. This study attempted to sample 1-minute portion of talking about the daily routine. Videotapes were made to analyze his/her speech sample in terms of the patterns and the frequency of dysfluency. The result of the present study were a follows: (1) The children had total dysfluency type ratios of 12.48%, dysfluency type ratios of 2.83%. Interjection was the most frequently occuring, followed by revision, incomplete phrase. (2) The adults had total dysfluency type ratios of 8.51%, dysfluency type ratios of 0.59%. Interjection was the most frequently occuring, followed by revision, syllable repetition. (3) In adults, both total dysfluency type ratios and dysfluency type ratios differed significantly by the gender. (4) Both total dysfluency type ratios and dysfluency type ratios differed significantly between adults and children.
In the present study, we investigated ability of recognition of auditory perception with regards to the quality of voice in postlingual CI adults and proposed a training program to improve within subject reliability. A prospective case-control study was conducted in adults with 7 postlingual deaf who received a CI surgery and 10 normal hearing controls. The pre and post test and training program included parameters of consensus auditory-perceptual evaluation of voice(CAPE-V) with pathological voice sample by using Alvin. In results of pre-post test for monitoring improvements of internal reliability for listeners via the training program, there was statistically significant difference in both test and group. There was statistically significant difference in internal reliability between pre-post test in the normal hearing group, the result was no significant in the CI group. The present study found that CI adults showed less ability in awareness of voice quality compared to normal hearing group. Also the training program improved pitch and loudness in CI adults.
The esthetics of chin contour is very important in facial deformities, and the quantity of soft tissue overlying the symphysis can be helpful to the correct diagnosis and surgical treatment for optimal facial harmony. The objectives of this study is to measure the different thicknesses of skeletal and soft tissues of chin on lateral cephalometric radiographs, to obtain the mean values of normal Korean adults, and to investigate the relative proportions of skeletal and soft tissues of chin. The results were as follows ; 1. In normal Korean adults, the relative proportions of the distances of soft tissue toward skeletal tissue were 1.5 in B point and 0.95 in Pg, and there were significant difference between male and female in the relative proportion of Pg (p<0.05). The relative proportion of the distances of vertical soft tissue toward horizontal soft tissue of Me was 1.91, and there were not significant difference between male and female. 2. In normal Korean adults, the distances of skeletal and soft tissues of chin showed no correlation, but the distances of vertical and horizontal soft tissues of Me showed high correlation (p<0.01). 3. In normal Korean adults, the correlations among the distances of each skeletal and soft tissues of chin were significantly high in both of male and female (p<0.01). Among the relative proportions of the distances of skeletal and soft tissues, the correlations of the proportions of B point and Mp and the proportions of Mp and Pg were significantly high (p<0.01).
