This article investigates buckling behavior of a multi-phase nanocrystalline nanobeam resting on Winkler-Pasternak foundation in the framework of nonlocal couple stress elasticity and a higher order refined beam model. In this model, the essential measures to describe the real material structure of nanocrystalline nanobeams and the size effects were incorporated. This non-classical nanobeam model contains couple stress effect to capture grains micro-rotations. Moreover, the nonlocal elasticity theory is employed to study the nonlocal and long-range interactions between the particles. The present model can degenerate into the classical model if the nonlocal parameter, and couple stress effects are omitted. Hamilton's principle is employed to derive the governing equations and the related boundary conditions which are solved applying an analytical approach. The buckling loads are compared with those of nonlocal couple stress-based beams. It is showed that buckling loads of a nanocrystalline nanobeam depend on the grain size, grain rotations, porosities, interface, elastic foundation, shear deformation, surface effect, nonlocality and boundary conditions.
This article investigates the free vibration behavior of carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) beams embedded using variational analytical methods and artificial neural networks (ANN). The material properties of layered functionally graded CNTRC (FG-CNTRC) beams are estimated using nonlocal parameters modified power-law with different types of CNT distributions through the thickness direction of the beam. Adopting Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory to capture the small size effects, the nonlocal governing equations are derived and solved using the analytical method. And also, the problem was analyzed using the ANN method. The architecture of the proposed ANN model is 3-9-1. In the experiments, we used 112 different data to predict the natural frequency using ANN. Based on the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the equations of motion as well as the boundary conditions of the beam are derived using Hamilton's principle. The classical beam theory is used to formulate a governing equation for predicting the free vibration of laminated CNTRC beams. According to the experimental results, the prediction ability of the ANN model is very good and the natural frequency can be predicted in ANN without attempting any experiments.
This paper investigates the stability of the functionally graded cylindrical small-scale tube regarding the dynamic analysis and based on the modified nonclassical high-order nonlocal strain gradient theory. The nonlocal beam is modeled according to the high-order tube theory utilizing the energy method based on the Hamilton principle, then the nonlocal governing equations and also nonlocal boundary conditions equations are obtained. The tube structure is made of the new class of composite material composed of ceramic and metal phases as the functionally graded structures. The functionally graded (FG) tube structures rotate around the central axis, and the stability of this nanodevice is due to the centrifugal force which is used for the application of nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) is studied in detail.
The size-dependent behavior of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) embedded in the elastic medium and subjected to the initial axial force is investigated using the mixed finite element method. The SWCNT is assumed to be Euler-Bernoulli beam incorporating nonlocal theory developed by Eringen. The mixed finite element model shows its great advantage of dealing with nonlocal behavior of SWCNT subjected to a concentrated load owing to the existence of two coefficients ${\alpha}_1$ and ${\alpha}_2$. This is the first numerical approach to deal with a puzzling fact of nonlocal theory with concentrated load. Numerical examples are performed to show the accuracy and efficiency of the present method. In addition, parametric study is carefully carried out to point out the influences of nonlocal effect, the elastic medium, and the initial axial force on the behavior of the carbon nanotubes.
This article focuses on the study of the buckling behavior of two-dimensional functionally graded (2D-FG) nanosize tubes, including porosity, based on the first shear deformation and higher-order theory of the tube. The nano-scale tube is simulated using the nonlocal gradient strain theory, and the general equations and boundary conditions are derived using Hamilton's principle for the Zhang-Fu's tube model (as a higher-order theory) and Timoshenko beam theory. Finally, the derived equations are solved using a numerical method for both simply-supported and clamped boundary conditions. A parametric study is performed to investigate the effects of different parameters, such as axial and radial FG power indices, porosity parameter, and nonlocal gradient strain parameters, on the buckling behavior of the bi-dimensional functionally graded porous tube. The nonlinear dynamic behavior of a nonuniform small-scale nonlocal beam is investigated in this work. The nanobeam is theoretically modeled using the nonlocal Eringen theory, as well as a few of Von-nonlinear Kármán's theories and the classical beam theory. The Hamilton principle extracts partial differential equations (PDE) of an axially functionally graded (AFG) nano-scale beam consisting of SUS304 and Si3N4 throughout its length, and an elastic Winkler-Pasternak substrate supports the tapered AFG nanobeam. The beam thickness is a function of beam length, and it constantly varies throughout the length of the beam. The numerical solution strategy employs an iteration methodology connected with the generalized differential quadratic method (GDQM) to calculate the nonlinear outcomes. The nonlinear numerical results are presented in detail to examine the impact of various parameters such as nonlinear amplitude, nonlocal parameter, the component of the elastic foundation, rate of cross-section change, and volume fraction parameter on the linear and nonlinear free vibration characteristics of AFG nanobeam.
This work presents a new nonlocal hyperbolic shear deformation beam theory for the static, buckling and vibration of nanoscale-beams embedded in an elastic medium. The present model is able to capture both the nonlocal parameter and the shear deformation effect without employing shear correction factor. The nonlocal parameter accounts for the small size effects when dealing with nanosize structures such as nanobeams. Based on the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the equations of motion of the nanoscale-beam are obtained using Hamilton's principle. The effect of the surrounding elastic medium on the deflections, critical buckling loads and frequencies of the nanobeam is investigated. Both Winkler-type and Pasternak-type foundation models are used to simulate the interaction of the nanobeam with the surrounding elastic medium. Analytical solutions are presented for a simply supported nanoscale-beam, and the obtained results compare well with those predicted by the other nonlocal theories available in literature.

This paper presents a nonlocal sinusoidal shear deformation beam theory (SDBT) for the nonlinear vibration of single walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The present model is capable of capturing both small scale effect and transverse shear deformation effects of CNTs, and does not require shear correction factors. The surrounding elastic medium is simulated based on Pasternak foundation. Based on the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen, the equations of motion of the CNTs are derived using Hamilton's principle. Differential quadrature method (DQM) for the natural frequency is presented for different boundary conditions, and the obtained results are compared with those predicted by the nonlocal Timoshenko beam theory (TBT). The effects of nonlocal parameter, boundary condition, aspect ratio on the frequency of CNTs are considered. The comparison firmly establishes that the present beam theory can accurately predict the vibration responses of CNTs.
The present paper explores nonlinear dynamical properties of piezo-magnetic beams based on a nonlocal refined higher-order beam formulation and piezoelectric phase effect. The piezoelectric phase increment may lead to improved vibrational behaviors for the smart beams subjected to magnetic fields and external harmonic excitation. Nonlinear governing equations of a nonlocal intelligent beam have been achieved based upon the refined beam model and a numerical provided has been introduced to calculate nonlinear vibrational curves. The present study indicates that variation in the volume fraction of piezoelectric ingredient has a substantial impact on vibrational behaviors of intelligent nanobeam under electrical and magnetic fields. Also, it can be seen that nonlinear free/forced vibrational behaviors of intelligent nanobeam have dependency on the magnitudes of induced electrical voltages, magnetic potential, stiffening elastic substrate and shear deformation.

Numerical assessment of the dynamic stability behavior of nonlocal beams rested on elastic foundation has been provided in the present research. The beam is made of fucntional graded (FG) porous material and is exposed to thermal and humid environments. It is also consiered that the beam is subjected to axial periodic mechanical load which especific exitation frequency leading to its instability behavior. Beam modeling has been performed via a two-variable theory developed for thick beams. Then, nonlocal elasticity has been used to establish the governing equation which are solved via Chebyshev-Ritz-Bolotin method. Temperature and moisture variation showed notable effects on stability boundaries of the beam. Also, the stability boundaries are affected by the amount of porosities inside the material.
