In this research, the study of the thermoelastic flexural analysis of silicon carbide/Aluminum graded (FG) sandwich 2D uniform structure (plate) under harmonic sinusoidal temperature load over time is presented. The plate is modeled using a simple two dimensional integral shear deformation plate theory. The current formulation contains an integral terms whose aim is to reduce a number of variables compared to others similar solutions and therefore minimize the computation time. The transverse shear stresses vary according to parabolic distribution and vanish at the free surfaces of the structure without any use of correction factors. The external load is applied on the upper face and varying in the thickness of the plates. The structure is supposed to be composed of "three layers" and resting on nonlinear visco-Pasternak's-foundations. The governing equations of the system are deduced and solved via Hamilton's principle and general solution. The computed results are compared with those existing in the literature to validate the current formulation. The impacts of the parameters (material index, temperature exponent, geometry ratio, time, top/bottom temperature ratio, elastic foundation type, and damping coefficient) on the dynamic flexural response are studied.
Numerical simulations are prevalently used to evaluate the seismic behaviour of structures. The accuracy of the simulation results depends directly on the accuracy of the modelling techniques employed to simulate the behaviour of individual structural members. An empirical modelling technique is employed in this paper to simulate the behaviour of column members under cyclic and seismic loading. Despite the common modelling techniques, this technique is capable of simulating two important aspects of the cyclic and seismic behaviour of columns simultaneously. The proposed fiber-based modelling technique captures explicitly the interaction between the bending moment and the axial force in columns, and the cyclic deterioration of the hysteretic behaviour of these members is implicitly taken into account. The fiber-based model is calibrated based on the cyclic behaviour of square hollow steel sections. The behaviour of several column archetypes is investigated under a dual cyclic loading protocol to develop a benchmark database before the calibration procedure. The dual loading protocol used in this study consists of both axial and lateral loading cycles with varying amplitudes. After the calibration procedure, a regression analysis is conducted to derive an equation for predicting a varying calibrated modelling parameter. Finally, several nonlinear time-history analyses are conducted on a 6-story steel special moment frame in order to investigate how the results of numerical simulations can be affected by employing the intended modelling technique for columns instead of other common modelling techniques.

This study investigates the response of functionally graded (FG) gas pipe under unsteady internal pressure and temperature. The pipe is proposed to be manufactured from FGMs rather than custom carbon steel, to reduce the erosion, corrosion, pressure surge and temperature variation effects caused by conveying of gases. The distribution of material graduations are obeying power and sigmoidal functions varying with the pipe thickness. The sigmoidal distribution is proposed for the 1st time in analysis of FG pipe structure. A Two-dimensional (2D) plane strain problem is proposed to model the pipe cross-section. The Fourier law is applied to describe the heat flux and temperature variation through the pipe thickness. The time variation of internal pressure is described by using exponential-harmonic function. The proposed problem is solved numerically by a two-dimensional (2D) plane strain finite element ABAQUS software. Nine-node isoparametric element is selected. The proposed model is verified with published results. The effects of material graduation, material function, temperature and internal pressures on the response of FG gas pipe are investigated. The coupled temperature and displacement FEM solution is used to find a solution for the stress displacement and temperature fields simultaneously because the thermal and mechanical solutions affected greatly by each other. The obtained results present the applicability of alternative FGM materials rather than classical A106Gr.B steel. According to proposed model and numerical results, the FGM pipe is more effective in natural gas application, especially in eliminating the corrosion, erosion and reduction of stresses.
The time-varying structural reliability of an aeroelastic launch vehicle subjected to stochastic parameters is investigated. The launch vehicle structure is under the combined action of several stochastic loads that include aerodynamics, thrust as well as internal combustion pressure. The launch vehicle's main body structural flexibility is modeled via the normal mode shapes of a free-free Euler beam, where the aerodynamic loadings on the vehicle are due to force on each incremental section of the vehicle. The rigid and elastic coupled nonlinear equations of motion are derived following the Lagrangian approach that results in a complete aeroelastic simulation for the prediction of the instantaneous launch vehicle rigid-body motion as well as the body elastic deformations. Reliability analysis has been performed based on two distinct limit state functions, defined as the maximum launch vehicle tip elastic deformation and also the maximum allowable stress occurring along the launch vehicle total length. In this fashion, the time-dependent reliability problem can be converted into an equivalent time-invariant reliability problem. Subsequently, the first-order reliability method, as well as the Monte Carlo simulation schemes, are employed to determine and verify the aeroelastic launch vehicle dynamic failure probability for a given flight time.

In this study, a numerical analysis framework for investigating the nonlinear behavior of structures under fire conditions is presented. In particular, analysis procedure combining fire-driven flow simulation and thermo-mechanical analysis is discussed to investigate the mechanical behavior of fire-exposed representative volume structures made of steel and concrete, respectively. First of all, fire-driven flow analysis is conducted using Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS) in a rectangular parallelepiped domain containing the structure. The FDS simulation yields the time history of temperature on the surface of the structure under fire conditions. Second, mechanical responses of the fire-exposed structure with respect to prescribed uniformly distributed loads are calculated by a coupled thermo-mechanical analysis using the time-varying surface temperature as boundary conditions. Material nonlinearities of steel and concrete have been considered in the thermo-mechanical analysis. A series of numerical results are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the multiphysics structural fire analysis for investigating the structural behavior under fire conditions.

An experimental study to evaluate dynamic structures of flow and turbulence characteristics in bubble-driven liquid flow in a rectangular tank with a varying flow rate of compressed air is conducted. Liquid flow fields are measured by time-resolved particle image velocimetry (PIV) with fluorescent tracer particles to eliminate diffused reflections, and by an image intensifier to acquire enhanced clean particle images. Instantaneous vector fields are investigated by using the two frame cross-correlation function and bad vectors are eliminated by magnitude difference technique. By proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) analysis, the energy distributions of spatial and temporal modes are acquired. When Reynolds number increases, bubble-induced turbulent motion becomes dominant rather than the recirculating flow near the side wall. The total kinetic energy transferred to the liquid from the rising bubbles shows a nonlinear relation regarding the energy input because of the interaction between bubbles and free surface.
In general, the dynamics of autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs) are highly nonlinear and time-varying, and the hydrodynamic coefficients of vehicles are hard to estimate accurately because of the variations of these coefficients with different navigation conditions. For this reason, in this paper, the control gain function is assumed to be unknown and the exogenous input term is assumed to be unbounded, although it still satisfies certain restrict condition. And these two kinds of wild assumptions have been seldom handled simultaneously in one system because of the difficulty of stability analysis. Under the above two relaxed assumptions, a robust neural network control scheme is presented for autonomous diving control of an AUV, and can guarantee that all the signals in the closed-loop system are UUB (uniformly ultimately bounded). Some practical features of the proposed control law are also discussed.

This paper proposes a decentralized robust adaptive control scheme for robot manipulators with input torque saturation in the presence of uncertainties. The control system should consider the practical problems that the controller gain coefficients of each joint may be nonlinear time-varying and the input torques applied at each joint are saturated. The proposed robot controller overcomes the various uncertainties and the input saturation problem. The proposed controller is comparatively simple and has no robot model parameters. The proposed controller is adjusted by the adaptation laws and the stability of the control system is guaranteed by the Lyapunov function analysis. Simulation results show the validity and robustness of the proposed control scheme.

In the nonlinear dynamic structural analysis, the given ground excitation as an input should be well defined. Because of the lack of recorded accelerograms in Korea, it is required to generate an artificial earthquake by a stochastic model of ground excitation with various dynamic properties rather than recorded accelerograms. It is well known that earthquake motions are generally non-stationary with time-varying intensity and frequency content. Many researchers have proposed non-stationary random process models. Yeh and Wen (1990) proposed a non-stationary stochastic process model which can be modeled as components with an intensity function, a frequency modulation function and a power spectral density function to describe such non-stationary characteristics. This paper shows the process to generate nonstationary artificial earthquake ground motions considering target design response spectrum chosen by ATC14.

Air dynamic bearings are inherently unstable in dynamic behavior due to the varying angle of a force produced and the nonlinear characteristics of stiffness. In this study, such dynamic behavior is obtained and compared with experimental results. A body axis coordinate system is employed to avoid the change of a moment of inertia. FDM is used to calculate the pressure distribution on the bearing surface and then the force acting on the rotor was calculated by integrating the pressure distribution. By integrating accelerations which are calculated from the equations of motion using the 4th order Runge-Kutta method, the pose of the bearing at each time step is obtained.
