  • Basic types of bilateral servo systems were described and practical consideration in the bilateral servo controller design was introduced. Power assistance to the operator is essential for high efficiency and accurate force reflection is necessary for dexterous manipulation. This paper shows a controller structure under development at KIMM which employs nonlinear friction compensation and memory based gravity compensation technique for efficiency and dexterity.

  • The overall performance of AC servo system is greatly affected the uncertainties of unpredictable mechanical parameter variations and external load disturbances. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to know different parameters and load disturbances subjected to position/speed control. This paper proposes an on-line identification method of mechanical parameters/load disturbances for AC servo system using support vector regression(SVR). The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed SVR algorithm is appropriate for control of unknown servo systems even with time-varying/nonlinear parameters.

  • A Concurrent Relay-PID controller (CRPID) for motor position servo systems is proposed in this paper. The proposed controller is composed of a deadband-relay subcontroller and a parallel PID subcontroller. The deadband-relay subcontroller is capable of improving the transient system performance while the PID subcontroller is responsible for near steady state system regulation. Systematic design methods for various controller components are developed. Design procedures are illustrated by an example. The proposed hybrid scheme is applied to a DC motor position servo system. Both numerical and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed controller performs satisfactorily and is superior to PID control alone.

  • The frequency response of a electro-hydraulic servo(EHS) system is studied. The frequensy response characteristics of the EHS system obtained by linerization method, nonlinerar simulation method, and experimentation are compared ane another. It is found that the frequency response of the EHS is consistent when input signal applied is very small, but that is deviated as input signal becomes large.

  • This paper deals with the state observer-controller which observes unmeasurable state variables of the system and then uses the estimated values as feedback signals. The linearized model is deduced from the nonlinear electrohydraulic servo system. The 4th order analog linear observer-controller and the 2nd order digital one are modelled and implemented using OP amplifiers and IBM PC/XT, respectively. The two observer are experimentally used in the control of an electrohydraulic system. The results are satisfactory in estimation performance and in tracking performance to command signal.

  • In this paper, Cross-Coupled Controller proposed for multi axes servo system. Tracking error and contouring error exist when a machine tool moves along the trajectory in multi exes system. The proposed scheme enhances the contouring performance by reducing contour error. Feedforward compensator reduces the effects of a nonlinear disturbance such as friction or dead zone. The proposed control scheme reduces the contour error which occured when the tool tracks the reference trajectory. Simulation results show that this scheme improves the contouring performance along the reference trajectory in XY-table.

  • In almost all the servo systems, especially for the robot manipulators and numerical control systems, there are resonance effects and nonlinear frictions which should be considered in designing servo controllers. In this paper to compensate friction and track the step-input without steady-state error, the original system is augmented with an integrator and employes $\mu$-Controller design method $\mu$-Controller design method enables to meet not only performance requirements but robust stabilities simultaneously. And there may exist a limit cycles due to interaction between integrator and nonlinear friction. With describing function method, the possibility of limit cycle is checked.

  • Because the wheel of V-belt continuously variable transmission (CVT) system driven by permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has much unknown nonlinear and time-varying characteristics, the better control performance design for the linear control design is a time consuming job. In order to overcome difficulties for design of the linear controllers, a hybrid recurrent Chebyshev neural network (NN) control system is proposed to control for a PMSM servo-driven V-belt CVT system under the occurrence of the lumped nonlinear load disturbances. The hybrid recurrent Chebyshev NN control system consists of an inspector control, a recurrent Chebyshev NN control with adaptive law and a recouped control. Moreover, the online parameters tuning methodology of adaptive law in the recurrent Chebyshev NN can be derived according to the Lyapunov stability theorem and the gradient descent method. Furthermore, the optimal learning rate of the parameters based on discrete-type Lyapunov function is derived to achieve fast convergence. The recurrent Chebyshev NN with fast convergence has the online learning ability to respond to the system's nonlinear and time-varying behaviors. Finally, to show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, comparative studies are demonstrated by experimental results.
