마찰형 감쇠를 갖는 구조물의 응답 스펙트럼 (Response Spectra of Structure Installed Frictional Damping System)

  • Structures with additional frictional damping system have strong nonlinearity that the dynamic behavior is highly affected by the relative magnitude between frictional force and excitation load. In this study, normalized response spectra of the structures with non-dimensional friction force are obtained through nonlinear time history analyses of the mass-normalized single degree of freedom systems using 20 ground motion data recorded on rock site. The variation of the control performance of frictional damping system is investigated in terms of the dynamic load and the structural natural period, of which effects were not considered in the previous studies. Least square curve fitting equations are presented for describing those normalized response spectrum and optimal non-dimensional friction forces are obtained for controlling the peak displacement and absolute acceleration of the structure based on the derivative of the curve-fitted design spectrum.

The Impact of Debt on Corporate Profitability: Evidence from Vietnam

  • The study aims to investigate the impact of debt on corporate profitability in the context of Vietnam. The paper investigates the impact of debt on corporate profitability in non-finance listed companies on the Vietnam stock market. The panel data of the research sample includes 118 non-financial listed companies on the Vietnam stock market for a period of nine years, from 2009 to 2017. The Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) is employed to address econometric issues and to improve the accuracy of the regression coefficients. In this research, corporate profitability is measured as the return of EBIT on total assets. The debt ratio is a ratio that indicates the proportion of a company's debt to its total assets. Firm sizes, tangible assets, growth rate, and taxes are control variables in the study. The empirical results show that debt has a statistically significant negative effect on corporate profitability. The result also shows this effect is stronger in a non-linear (concave) way, we show that the debt ratio has nonlinear effects on corporate profitability. From this, experimental evidence shows that the optimal debt ratio is 38.87%. This evidence provides a new insight to managers of the non-finance companies on how to improve the firm's profitability with debt.

  • In this study, we propose the design of optimized fuzzy controller for the rotary inverted pendulum system by using differential evolution algorithm. The structure of the differential evolution algorithm has a simple structure and its convergence to optimal values is superb in comparison to other optimization algorithms. Also the differential evolution algorithm is easier to use because it have simpler mathematical operators and have much less computational time when compared with other optimization algorithms. The rotary inverted pendulum system is nonlinear and has a unstable motion. The objective is to control the position of the rotating arm and to make the pendulum to maintain the unstable equilibrium point at vertical position. The output performance of the proposed fuzzy controller is considered from the viewpoint of performance criteria such as overshoot, steady-state error, and settling time through simulation and practical experiment. From the result of both simulation and practical experiment, we evaluate and analyze the performance of the proposed optimal fuzzy controller from the comparison between PGAs and differential evolution algorithms. Also we show the superiority of the output performance as well as the characteristic of differential evolution algorithm.

  • 풍력발전시스템의 실제 운용을 위해서는 성능 예측, 피치 제어, 운용 기법 최적화 등에 관한 연구가 필요하다. 최근에는 새로운 형태의 이중 로터 풍력발전시스템이 개발되어 시험 운전 중에 있다. 이 풍력발전시스템의 특징은 upwind와 downwind 형태의 두개의 로터 시스템이 수평으로 결합되어 있으며, 발전기는 타워 안쪽에 수직으로 설치되어 있다는 점이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 새로운 형식의 풍력발전시스템의 성능 예측 및 제어 시스템 실험을 위한 시뮬레이션 소프트웨어를 소개하고자 한다. 특히 이 소프트웨어는 FORTRAN과 Matlab/Simulink를 이용하여 계산의 신속성 및 사용자 편의 제공을 고려하여 개발되었다.

전단벽식 구조의 휨거동을 이용한 마찰감쇠기의 제어성능 (Control Performance of Friction Dampers Using Flexural Behavior of RC Shear Wall System)

  • High-rise apartments of shear wall system are governed by flexural behavior like a cantilever beam. Installation of the damper-brace system in a structure governed by flexural behavior is not suitable. Because of relatively high lateral stiffness of the shear wall, a load is not concentrate on the brace and the brace cannot perform a role as a damping device. In this paper, a friction damper applying flexibility of shear wall is proposed in order to reduce the deformation of a structure. To evaluate performance of the proposed friction damper, nonlinear time history analysis is executed by SeismoStruct analysis program and MVLEM(multi vertical linear element model) be used for simulating flexural behavior of the shear wall. It is found that control performance of the proposed friction damper is superior to one of a coupled wall with rigid beam. In conclusion, this study verified that the optimal control performance of the proposed friction damper is equal to 45 % of the maximum shear force inducing in middle-floor beam with rigid beam.

동적인 교차 및 동연변이 확률을 갖는 균일 교차방식 유전 알고리즘 (A genetic algorithm with uniform crossover using variable crossover and mutation probabilities)

  • In genetic algorithms(GA), a crossover is performed only at one or two places of a chromosome, and the fixed probabilities of crossover and mutation have been used during the entire generation. A GA with dynamic mutation is known to be superior to GAs with static mutation in performance, but so far no efficient dynamic mutation method has been presented. Accordingly in this paper, a GA is proposed to perform a uniform crossover based on the nucleotide(NU) concept, where DNA and RNA consist of NUs and also a concrete way to vary the probabilities of crossover and mutation dynamically for every generation is proposed. The efficacy of the proposed GA is demonstrated by its application to the unimodal, multimodal and nonlinear control problems, respectively. Simulation results show that in the convergence speed to the optimal value, the proposed GA was superior to existing ones, and the performance of GAs with varying probabilities of the crossover and the mutation improved as compared to GAs with fixed probabilities of the crossover and mutation. And it also shows that the NUs function as the building blocks and so the improvement of the proposed algorithm is supported by the building block hypothesis.

Control of buildings using single and multiple tuned liquid column dampers

  • Some design formulas and design procedures for single and multiple tuned liquid column dampers (TLCDs) are proposed in this study. Previous studies show that if the properties of the TLCD system are properly selected then the TLCD could be as effective as the traditional tuned mass dampers. In addition, the TLCD system offers advantages such as flexibility in terms of installation, little maintenance required, and potentials for multiple usage, etc., which are incomparable by other mechanical types of dampers. In this paper, a set of optimal properties such as length and head loss of a TLCD system are derived under the assumption that the building vibrates in a dominate mode and is subjected to Gaussian white noise excitation. A design procedure for a single TLCD system will be illustrated and discussed. Due to the nonlinearity in the damping term, the TLCD system is sensitive to the loading intensity. This loading sensitivity could limit the application range of the TLCD system. It will be shown in this paper that such a nonlinear effect can be reduced by using multiple TLCDs. As a demonstrative example, the control effects on a flexible building modeled as a single degree-of-freedom system subjected to white noise excitation will be analyzed and discussed using single or multiple TLCDs.

Design of Front Lower Control Arm Considering Buckling Strength and Durability Strength

  • Recently, the concept of structural design against instability has been proposed in the chassis parts. The design considerations of lower control arm of chassis parts under the buckling and durability strengths are the general. More precisely, this paper considers a specific application and associated optimization problem for two strengths, where the design variables are the physical or geometric dimensions for skins and stiffeners. The objective is the minimization of the total weight, while optimization constrains involve reserve or improve factors for the buckling and durability strengths. The most important features are related to the numerical simulations for the estimation of buckling factor and their sensitivities by means of nonlinear and linear finite element analyses. The bucking and durability strength analyses, and the morping geometries are directly included in the optimization problem and the modified design is formulated. As a result, the optimal structure with stable behavior is obtained or increases the buckling and durability strengths of parts. Most of design problems for structures exposed to elastic instability can be formulated and solved.

스텝모터의 진동 저감을 위한 마이크로 스텝 구동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Micro Stepping Drive to Reduce Vibration of Step Motor)

  • In this study, We use microstep control to reduce vibration of step motor. Microstep control of step motor is usually thought of as an extension of conventional step motor control technology. The essence of micro stepping is that we divide the full step of a step motor into a number of substep called microstep and cause the stepmotor to move through a substep per input pulse. In ideal case, by controlling the individual phase currents of a two-phase step motor sinusoidally we can get uniform torque and step angle. But due to the nonlinear characteristics of the step motor, we need to compensate current waveform to improve the over-all smoothness of the conventional micro stepping system. We implement digital Pulse Width Modul- ation (PWM) driver to drive step motor and microphone was used for detecting vibration. Driver enables speed change automatically by increasing or decreasing micro stepping ratio which we call Automatic Switching on the Fly. To compensate the torque harmonics, neural network is applied to the system and we found compensated optimal input current waveform. Finally we can get smooth motion of step motor in a wide range of motor speed.

다개체 로봇 편대 제어를 위한 이동 구간 입자 군집 최적화 알고리즘의 통계적 성능 분석 (Statistical Analysis of Receding Horizon Particle Swarm Optimization for Multi-Robot Formation Control)

  • 본 논문에서는 이동 구간 입자 군집 최적화 (Receding horizon particle swarm optimization; RHPSO) 알고리즘 기반 다개체 로봇 편대 제어 알고리즘의 통계적 성능 분석 결과를 제시한다. 다개체 로봇의 편대 제어 문제는 로봇 간 충돌 회피를 고려할 경우, 구속 조건이 있는 비선형 최적화 문제로 정의될 수 있다. 일반적으로 구속 조건이 있는 비선형 최적화 문제는 최적해를 찾는데 많은 시간이 걸리는 문제점이 있다. 이동 구간 입자 군집 최적화 알고리즘은 로봇 편대 제어의 최적화 문제에 대한 준최적해를 빠르게 찾기 위해 제안된 알고리즘이다. 이동 구간 입자 군집 최적화 알고리즘은 알고리즘에 사용되는 후보해의 개수와 세대 수가 증가함에 따라 계산 복잡도가 증가한다. 따라서 최소의 후보해와 세대 수만으로 실시간 제어에 사용될 수 있는 준최적해를 찾는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 이동 구간 입자 군집 최적화 알고리즘의 후보해의 수와 세대 수에 따른 제어 오차를 비교하였다. 다양한 조건의 시뮬레이션 실험을 통해서 통계적으로 결과를 분석하고, 허용 가능한 편대 오차 범위 내에서 이동 구간 입자 군집 최적화 알고리즘의 최소 후보해의 수와 세대 수를 도출한다.
