The drying shrinkage of concrete has a close relation to the water movement, Since the diffusion process of water in concrete is strongly dependent on the temperature and pore humidity, the process is highly nonlinear phenomena. It is shown that the analytical results of this study are in good agreement with experimental data in the literatures, and results calculated by BP-KX model. The internal stress caused by moisture distribution which was resulted from the diffusion process, was calculated quantitatively. The tensile stress which occurred in the drying outer zone mostly exceeded the tensile strength of concrete, and necessarily would result in crack formation.

Better understanding of in-situ mechanical behavior of pavement foundations is very important to predict long-term effects on the system performance of transport infrastructure. In order to do that, resilient stiffness characterization of geomaterals is needed to properly adopt such mechanistic analysis under both traffic and environmental loadings. In this paper, in situ monitoring data from KHC test road was used to analyze the non-linearity of stress conditions under traffic and moisture loadings. Then, the predicted non-linear response using finite element method with a selected constitutive model of foundation geomaterials are verified with the field data.
Grains display characteristics of both elastic bodies and viscous fluids when they are subjected to mechanical treatments in harvesting, handling, and processing. This viscoelastic behavior of grains when mechanically stressed must be fully understood to establish maximum machine efficiency and have a minimum degree of grain damage and the highest quality of the final product. The studies were conducted to examine the effect of the moisture content, the loading rate and the initial deformation on the stress relaxation behavior of whole kernel of rough rice, and develop the rheological model to represent its stress relaxation behavior. The following results were obtained from the study. 1. Moisture content had the greatest influence on the initial portion of the relaxation curve. With elapsing time the lower moisture content resulted in the lower residual stress for the Japonica-type rough rice and vice versa for the Indica-type rough rice. But within the ranges of moisture content tested, the degree of stress relaxation per unit strain on the Indica-type rough rice was a little higher than those on the Japonica-type rough rice. 2. The slower loading rate resulted in less initial stress. The decreasing trend of residual stress for all the samples tested with increasing loading rate was shown. 3. The higher initial deformation for all the samples resulted in less initial stress. The increasing of amount of stress relaxation per unit strain with increase of initial stress indicated that viscoelastic properties of rough rice depended not only upon duration of load applied but also initial stress applied. This means that rough rice is nonlinear viscoelastic material. 4. The compression stress relaxation properties of rough rice kernel can be described by a generalized Maxwell model representing by the Maxwell elements.
In recent years, the composite columns have been widely used in the structures. These columns are mainly used to construct the structures with a large span and high floor height. Concrete filled tubes (CFTs) are a type of composite column, which are popular nowadays due to their numerous benefits. The purpose of this study is to investigate such frames at elevated temperatures. The method used in this research is based on section 2.2 of Eurocode 4. First, for the verification purpose, a comparison was made between the experimental results and the numerical model of the concrete filled tube. Then a composite frame was analyzed under fire temperature with different parameters. The results showed that the failure time decreased with increasing the friction of different models. Moreover, investigation of the concrete moisture content revealed that an increase in the concrete moisture content from 3% to 10% led to extended failure time for different models. For instance, in the second frame model, the failure time has increased up to 8%.

The degree of changes in mechanical properties of fire-damaged reinforced concrete column depends mostly on sectional geometry, duration exposed to fire, and moisture containment. In order to reasonably assess the deterioration of structural capacity of fire-damaged reinforced concrete column, it is necessary to develop a theoretical model predicting column behavior based on nonlinear heat transfer equation in addition to the traditional mechanics. This research focuses on the development of theoretical model to predict moment-curvature relations of fire-damaged reinforced column. The model is used for the assessment of structural capacity of fire-damaged column in terms of moment-curvature relations and PM interaction curves.
The subjective research attempts to apply a rainfall-runoff model capable of considering time-variation of soil water contents which are highly correlated to the river flows on the qpqyungchang river basin and to evaluate its performance for flow forecasting. The model used in this study is a physically-based conceptual time-continuous model, which is composed of the Sacramento soil moisture accounting model and the nonlinear multiple conceptual reservoirs model. The daily precipitation and evaporation data for 7 years and for 3 years were used for the parameter estimation and the model verification, respectively. As a result, the flows including a significant flood event were well simulated, and the cross-correlation coefficient between observed flows and computed flows for the verification periods was 0.87, but in general computed flows were underestimated for the low-flow periods. Also, the effects of precipitation and soil water content to the river flows were analysed for the flood and the drought.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the future potential climate and vegetation canopy change impact on a dam watershed hydrology. A $6,661.5\;km^2$ dam watershed, the part of Han-river basin which has the watershed outlet at Chungju dam was selected. The SWAT model was calibrated and verified using 9 year and another 7 year daily dam inflow data. The Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency ranged from 0.43 to 0.91. The Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma) Coupled Global Climate Model3 (CGCM3) data based on Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) SRES (Special Report Emission Scenarios) B1 scenario was adopted for future climate condition and the data were downscaled by artificial neural network method. The future vegetation canopy condition was predicted by using nonlinear regression between monthly LAI (Leaf Area Index) of each land cover from MODIS satellite image and monthly mean temperature was accomplished. The future watershed mean temperatures of 2100 increased by $2.0^{\circ}C$, and the precipitation increased by 20.4 % based on 2001 data. The vegetation canopy prediction results showed that the 2100 year LAI of deciduous, evergreen and mixed on April increased 57.1 %, 15.5 %, and 62.5% respectively. The 2100 evapotranspiration, dam inflow, soil moisture content and groundwater recharge increased 10.2 %, 38.1 %, 16.6 %, and 118.9 % respectively. The consideration of future vegetation canopy affected up to 3.0%, 1.3%, 4.2%, and 3.6% respectively for each component.

This paper proposes degree of hydration based shrinkage prediction model of 40MPa HPC. This model shows degree of hydration which is defined as the ratio between the hydrated cement mass and the initial mass of cement is very closely related to shrinkage deformation. In this study, degree of hydration was determined by CEMHYD-3D program of NIST. Verification of the predicted degree of hydration is performed by comparison between test results of compressive strength and estimated one by CEMHYD-3D. Proposed model is determined by statistical nonlinear analysis using the program Origin of Origin Lab. Co. To get coefficients of the model, drying shrinkage tests of four specimen series were followed with basic material tests. Testes were performed in constant temperature /humidity chamber, with difference moisture curing ages to know initial curing time effect. Verification with another specimen, collected construction field of FCM bridge, was given in the same condition as pre-tested specimens. Finally, all test results were compared to propose degree of hydration based model and other code models; AASHTO, ACI, CEB-FIP, JSCE, etc.
Purpose: This study was performed to improve the drying quality and drying rate of ginseng slices by combining microwave and far-infrared drying techniques. Methods: Based on single-factor experiments and analyses, a quadratic regression orthogonal rotation combination design was adopted to study the effects of the moisture content at the conversion point between the microwave and far-infrared techniques, the ginseng slice thickness and the far-infrared drying temperature on the chip drying time, the surface color difference value, the nutritional composition and the surface shrinkage rate index. Results: Compared to the far-infrared drying alone, the combined microwave and far-infrared drying resulted in an increase in the saponin content of the ginseng slices and reductions in the drying time, surface color difference, and shrinkage rate. Conclusions: We established a mathematical model of the relationships between the surface shrinkage rate index and the experimental factors using the multi-objective nonlinear optimization method to determine the optimal parameter combination, which was confirmed to be the following: microwave and far-infrared moisture contents of 65%, a ginseng slice thickness of 1 mm, and a far-infrared drying temperature of $54^{\circ}C$.

The effective rainfall is calculated considering the soil moisture. It utilizes observed data directly in order to incorporate the soil moisture into the rainfall-runoff model, or it calculates indirectly within the model. The rainfall-runoff model, IHACRES, used in this study computes the catchment wetness index (CWI) first varying with temperature and utilize it for estimating precipitation loss. The nonlinear relationship between the CWI and the effective rainfall in the Hapcheondam watershed was derived and utilized for the long-term runoff calculation. The effects of variable and constant CWI during calibration and validation were suggested by flow regime. The results show the variable CWI is generally more effective than the constant CWI. The $R^2$ during high flow period shows relatively higher than the ones during normal or low flow period, but the difference between cases of the variable and constant CWI was insignificant. The results indicates that the high flow is relatively less sensitive to the evaporation and soil moisture associated with temperature. On the other hand, the variable CWI gives more desirable results during normal and low flow periods which means that it is crucial to incorporate evaporation and soil moisture depending on temperature into long-term continuous runoff simulation. The NSE tends to decrease during high flow period with high variability which could be natural because NSE index is largely influenced by outliers of underlying variable. Nevertheless overall NSE shows satisfactory range higher than 0.9. The utilization of variable CWI during normal and low flow period would improve the computation of long-term rainfall-runoff simulation.
