This work applies a four-known quasi-3D shear deformation theory to investigate the bending behavior of a functionally graded plate resting on a viscoelastic foundation and subjected to hygro-thermo-mechanical loading. The theory utilizes a hyperbolic shape function to predict the transverse shear stress, and the transverse stretching effect of the plate is considered. The principle of virtual displacement is applied to obtain the governing differential equations, and the Navier method, which comprises an exponential term, is used to obtain the solution. Novel to the current study, the impact of the viscoelastic foundation model, which includes a time-dependent viscosity parameter in addition to Winkler's and Pasternak parameters, is carefully investigated. Numerical examples are presented to validate the theory. A parametric study is conducted to study the effect of the damping coefficient, the linear and nonlinear loadings, the power-law index, and the plate width-tothickness ratio on the plate bending response. The results show that the presence of the viscoelastic foundation causes an 18% decrease in the plate deflection and about a 10% increase in transverse shear stresses under both linear and nonlinear loading conditions. Additionally, nonlinear loading causes a one-and-a-half times increase in horizontal stresses and a nearly two-times increase in normal transverse stresses compared to linear loading. Based on the article's findings, it can be concluded that the viscosity effect plays a significant role in the bending response of plates in hygrothermal environments. Hence it shall be considered in the design.
This study deals with simple solutions for a spherical or circular opening excavated in elastic-brittle plastic rock mass compatible with a linear Mohr-Coulomb (M-C) or a nonlinear Hoek-Brown (H-B) yield criterion. Based on total strain approach, the closed-form solutions of stresses and displacement are derived simultaneously for circular and spherical openings using original H-B and M-C yield criteria. Two simple numerical procedures are proposed for the solution of generalized H-B and M-C yield criteria. Based on incremental approach, the similarity solution is derived for circular and spherical openings using generalized H-B and M-C yield criteria. The classical Runge-Kutta method is used to integrate the first-order ordinary differential equations. Using three data sets for M-C and H-B models, the results of the radial displacements, the spreading of the plastic radius with decreasing pressure, and the radial and circumferential stresses in the plastic region are compared. Excellent agreement among the solutions is obtained for all cases of spherical and circular openings. The importance of the use of proper initial values in the similarity solution is discussed.

Pneumatic cylinders are widely used to actuators in automatic equipments because they are relatively inexpensive, simple to install and maintain, offer robust design and operation, are available in a wide range of standard sizes and design alternatives. This paper presents a comparative study among the dynamic characteristics of meter-out and meter-in speed control of pneumatic cushion cylinders with a relief valve type cushion mechanism. Because of the nonlinear differential equations and a requirement for simultaneous iterative solution in a mathematical model of a double acting pneumatic cushion cylinder, a computer simulation is carried out to investigate pressure, temperature, mass flow rate in cushion chamber and displacement and velocity time histories of piston under various operating conditions. It is found that the piston velocity and pressure response in meter-in speed control are more oscillatory than with meter-out those when pneumatic cushion cylinders are driven at a high-speed. In meter-out speed control, the effective area of the flow control valve is larger than that of meter-in, and the supply pressure has to be much higher than the pressure required to move the load because it has also to overcome the back pressure in cushion chamber.
In the recent decade, practical of wavelet technique is being utilized in various domain of science. Particularly, engineers are interested to the wavelet solution method in the time series analysis. Fundamentally, seismic responses of structures against time history loading such as an earthquake, illustrates optimum capability of systems. In this paper, a procedure using particularly discrete Haar wavelet basis functions is introduced, to solve dynamic equation of motion. In the proposed approach, a straightforward formulation in a fluent manner is derived from the approximation of the displacements. For this purpose, Haar operational matrix is derived and applied in the dynamic analysis. It's free-scaled matrix converts differential equation of motion to the algebraic equations. It is shown that accuracy of dynamic responses relies on, access of load in the first step, before piecewise analysis added to the technique of equation solver in the last step for large scale of wavelet. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheme, improved formulations are extended to the linear and nonlinear structural dynamic analysis. The validity and effectiveness of the developed method is verified with three examples. The results were compared with those from the numerical methods such as Duhamel integration, Runge-Kutta and Wilson-${\theta}$ method.

The purpose of this work is to predict the systolic blood pressure (BP) during exercise from pulse transit time (PTT) for warning of possible danger. PTT was calculated as the time between R-peak of ECG and the peak of differential photoplethysmograph (PPG). For the PTT-BP model, we used regress equations from previous studies and 3 kinds of new models combining linear and nonlinear regress equation. The model parameters were estimated with the data measured under low to middle intensity exercise, and then was tested with the data measured under high intensity exercise. Predicted BP values after high intensity exercise were compared with those measured by cuff-type sphygmomanometer. The results showed that the error between measured and predicted values were acceptable for the monitoring BP. We tested PTT-BP models 1 month after the identification without further calibration. Models could predict the BP and the errors between measured and predicted BP were about 5mmHg. The suggested system is expected to be helpful in recognizing any danger during exercise.
Safety related devices unconstrained temporally in the process of operation of nuclear power plants could be damaged by the sliding during seismic activity. In this study sliding response of unconstrained objects to the base excitations is studied experimentally and analytically. In experiments static and dynamic tests to determine the coefficient of friction and the shaking table experiments to verify the sliding response of the analytic results were conducted. Numerical solutions by solving the nonlinear differential equations of motion governing sliding were found by the computer program using the step by step acceleration method. The exact solutions of the sliding response to the simple forms of base excitations were found to verify the computer program developed in this study. Relative displacement envelopes were suggested as a colliding criteria of the unconstrained objects.
The second order analysis taking place due to non-linear behavior of the structures under the mechanical and geometric factors through implementing exact and approximate methods is an indispensible issue in the analysis of such structures. Among the exact methods is the slope-deflection method that due to its simplicity and efficiency of its relationships has always been in consideration. By solving the differential equations of the modified slope-deflection method in which the effect of axial compressive force is considered, the stiffness matrix including trigonometric entries would be obtained. The complexity of computations with trigonometric functions causes replacement with their Maclaurin expansion. In most cases only the first two terms of this expansion are used but to obtain more accurate results, more elements are needed. In this paper, the effect of utilizing higher order terms of Maclaurin expansion on reducing the number of required elements and attaining more rapid convergence with less error is investigated for the Bernoulli beam with various boundary conditions. The results indicate that when using only one element along the beam length, utilizing higher order terms in Maclaurin expansion would reduce the relative error in determining the critical buckling load and kinematic parameters in the second order analysis.

In this work, the effect of composite couplings and mass distributions on hub loads of a hingeless rotor in forward flight is investigated. 1'he hingeless composite rotor is idealized as a laminated thin-walled box-beam. The nonclassical effects such as transverse shear and torsion warping are considered in the structural formulation. The nonlinear differential equations of motion are obtained by applying Hamilton's principle. The blade responses and hub loads are calculated using a finite element formulation both in space and time. The aerodynamic forces acting on the blade are calculated using the quasi-steady strip theory. The theory includes the effects of reversed flow and compressibility The magnitude of elastic couplings obtained by MSC/NASTRAN is compared with the classical pitch-flap($\delta$$_{3}$) coupling. It is observed that the elastic couplings and mass distributions of the blade have a substantial effect on the behavior of $N_{b/}$rev hub loads. About 40% hub loads is reduced by tailoring or redistributing the structural properties of the blade.f the blade.
Fluid velocity analysis on the instability of pipes reinforced by silica nanoparticles ($SiO_2$) is presented in this paper. Mori-Tanaka model is used for obtaining the effective materials properties of the nanocomposite structure considering agglomeration effects. The well known Navier-Stokes equation is used for obtaining the applied force of fluid to pipe. Based on the Reddy higher-order shear deformation theory, the motion equations are derived based on energy method and Hamilton's principal. The frequency and critical fluid velocity of structure are calculated using differential quadrature method (DQM) so that the effects of different parameters such as volume fractions of SiO2 nanoparticles, SiO2 nanoparticles agglomeration, boundary conditions and geometrical parameters of pipes are considered on the nonlinear vibration and instability of the pipe. Results indicate that increasing the volume fractions of SiO2 nanoparticles, the frequency and critical fluid velocity of the structure are increased. Furthermore, considering SiO2 nanoparticles agglomeration, decreases the frequency and critical fluid velocity of the pipe.
Sufficient conditions for the existence of positive solutions for a coupled system of nonlinear nonlocal boundary value problems of the type -x"(t) = f(t, y(t)), t $\in$ (0, 1), -y"(t) = g(t, x(t)), t $\in$ (0, 1), x(0) = y(0) = 0, x(1) = ${\alpha}x(\eta)$, y(1) = ${\alpha}y(\eta)$, are obtained. The nonlinearities f, g : (0,1) $\times$ (0, $\infty$ ) $\rightarrow$ (0, $\infty$) are continuous and may be singular at t = 0, t = 1, x = 0, or y = 0. The parameters $\eta$, $\alpha$, satisfy ${\eta}\;{\in}\;$ (0,1), 0 < $\alpha$ < $1/{\eta}$. An example is provided to illustrate the results.
