Modeling of diffusion-reaction behavior of sulfate ion in concrete under sulfate environments

  • This paper estimates theoretically the diffusion-reaction behaviour of sulfate ion in concrete caused by environmental sulfate attack. Based on Fick's second law and chemical reaction kinetics, a nonlinear and nonsteady diffusion-reaction equation of sulfate ion in concrete, in which the variable diffusion coefficient and the chemical reactions depleting sulfate ion concentration in concrete are considered, is proposed. The finite difference method is utilized to solve the diffusion-reaction equation of sulfate ion in concrete, and then it is used to simulate the diffusion-reaction process and the concentration distribution of sulfate ion in concrete. Afterwards, the experiments for measuring the sulfate ion concentration in concrete are carried out by using EDTA method to verify the proposal model, and results show that the proposed model is basically in agreement with the experimental results. Finally, Numerical example has been completed to investigate the diffusion-reaction behavior of sulfate ion in the concrete plate specimen immersed into sulfate solution.

  • 배기가스로부터 폴리이서술폰 분리막을 이용하여 이산화탄소 분리 특성을 수치해석 방법으로 분석하였다. 공급 기체와 투과 기체가 서로 다른 방향으로 흐르는 향류 흐름 시스템에 대한 분리막 공정 지배 방정식을 유한 차분법으로 전개하였으며 Compaq Visual Fortran 6.6 소프트웨어를 이용 공정 모사하였다. 개발된 프로그램을 사용하여 수치해석을 수행한 결과 이산화탄소 투과특성에 영향을 주는 가장 중요한 인자로는 이산화탄소 투과 구동력과 체류시간임을 알 수 있었다. 동일한 조건에서 향류 흐름 공정모사에 의한 투과 측 이산화탄소 농도와 투과량은 병류 흐름 공정모사 결과보다 소폭 증가함을 확인하였다.

  • 이산화탄소($CO_2$) 포집 및 지중저장을 위한 $CO_2$ 수송선용 저장탱크는 액체 $CO_2$와 직접적으로 접촉할 경우 발생할 수 있는 물리적/열적 탱크 손상을 방지하기 위해 화물 선적 단계 이전에 예냉과정을 거쳐야 한다. 본 연구에서는 예냉을 위해 주입되는 저온 $CO_2$ 기체의 탱크 유입량을 계산하기 위해 $CO_2$ 저장탱크 예냉과정의 수학적 모델 식을 제안하였다. 또한 비례-적분(proportional-integral: PI) 제어를 통해 공정을 제어하는 동적 모사 결과를 제시하였다. 이 때 제어 변수를 탱크 내 온도 또는 압력으로 선정한 두 가지 사례를 모사하였으며 그러한 결정이 $CO_2$ 저장탱크의 예냉과정에 미치는 영향을 해석하였다. 결과적으로 예냉과정의 PI제어에는 탱크 내 온도를 제어하는 것보다 압력을 제어하는 우회적인 방식을 택할 때 수학적 모델의 비선형성과 특이점 발생으로 인한 불안정성을 피할 수 있으므로 더 안정된 결과가 도출됨을 보였다.

레이저 가공을 이용한 이온교환막 표면의 비전도성 마이크로 패턴의 제작 (Fabrication of Nonconductive Microscale Patterns on Ion Exchange Membrane by Laser Process)

  • The electroconvection generated on the surface of an ion exchange membrane (IEM) is closely related to the electrical/chemical characteristics or topology of the IEM. In particular, when non-conductive regions are mixed on the surface of the IEM, it can have a great influence on the transfer of ions and the formation of nonlinear electroconvective vortices, so more theoretical and experimental studies are necessary. Here, we present a novel method for creating microscale non-conductive patterns on the IEM surface by laser ablation, and successfully visualize microscale vortices on the surface modified IEM. Microscale (~300 ㎛) patterns were fabricated by applying UV nanosecond laser processing to the non-conductive film, and were transferred to the surface of the IEM. In addition, UV nanosecond laser process parameters were investigated for obvious micro-pattern production, and operating conditions were optimized, such as minimizing the heat-affected zone. Through this study, we found that non-conductive patterns on the IEM surface could affect the generation and growth of electroconvective vortices. The experimental results provided in our study are expected to be a good reference for research related to the surface modification of IEMs, and are expected to be helpful for new engineering applications of electroconvective vortices using a non-conductive patterned IEM.

제염용액내 유기산이 금속이온 이온교환에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Organic Acids in Decontamination Solution on Ion Exchange of Metal Ions)

  • 원자로 냉각계통의 방사성 오염물질을 제거하기 위한 제염공정에서 유기산에 용해된 금속이온들은 이온교환 수지를 통과하면서 제거된다. 그러나 제염용액내 유기산들은 용액내 금속이온과 착화합물을 형성하여 이온교환수지에 대한 친화도를 감소시킨다. 이같은 관점에서 착화합물 형성이 이온교환공정에 미치는 영향 해석을 위해 코발트와 철 이온을 대상으로 Amberlite IRN-77 양이온수지와의 이온교환실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과에서 화학제염제로 사용된 유기산 가운데 EDTA는 철 이온보다 코발트 이온과 강한 착화합물을 형성하여 코발트 이온의 수지에 대한 이온교환용량을 현저히 감소시켜 주는 성분으로 나타났다. 반면에, Oxalic Acide와 Citric Acide의 영향은 미미하였다. 또한, 실험결과로부터 이들 금속이온 들에 대한 단일 성분계 및 2성분계 비선형 평형식을 결정하였다.

증류공정 내부 온도 예측을 위한 머신 러닝 모델 개발 (Development of Machine Learning Model for Predicting Distillation Column Temperature)

  • 본 연구에서는 증류공정의 제품 생산단 온도 예측을 위한 머신러닝 기반 모델을 개발하였다. 증류공정의 제어는 제품 생산단의 온도를 통해 이루어지고 있어 제어를 위해 정확한 온도 예측이 필요하다. 증류공정에서 온도는 다양한 변수들과 복잡한 비선형의 관계를 형성하고 있으며 시계열 데이터의 특성이 있어 이를 예측하기 위해 순환신경망 기반 알고리즘을 이용하였다. 모델 개발 과정에서 적절한 예측 알고리즘을 선정하기 위해 세 가지 순환신경망 기반 알고리즘과 배치 사이즈 조절하여 제품 생산단 온도를 예측하기 위한 가장 적저한 모델을 선정하였다. LSTM128 모델이 제품 생산단 온도를 예측하기 위한 가장 적절한 모델로 선정되었다. 선정된 모델을 활용하여 실제 공정 운전데이터에 적용한 결과 RMSE 0.0791, R2 0.924의 성능을 보였다.

An Evaluation of Multiple-input Dual-output Run-to-Run Control Scheme for Semiconductor Manufacturing

  • This paper provides an evaluation of an optimization-based, multiple-input double-output (MIDO) run-to-run (R2R) control scheme for general semiconductor manufacturing processes. The controller in this research, termed adaptive dual response optimizing controller (ADROC), can serve as a process optimizer as well as a recipe regulator between consecutive runs of wafer fabrication. In evaluation, it is assumed that the equipment model could be appropriately described by a pair of second-order polynomial functions in terms of a set of controllable variables. Of practical relevance is to consider a drifting effect in the equipment model since in common semiconductor practice the process tends to drift due to machine aging and tool wearing. We select a typical application of R2R control to chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) in semiconductor manufacturing in this evaluation, and there are five different CMP process scenarios demonstrated, including mean shift, variance increase, and IMA disturbances. For the controller, ADROC, an on-line estimation technique is implemented in a self-tuning (ST) control manner for the adaptation purpose. Subsequently, an ad hoc global optimization algorithm based on the dual response approach, arising from the response surface methodology (RSM) literature, is used to seek the optimum recipe within the acceptability region for the execution of next run. The main components of ADROC are described and its control performance is assessed. It reveals from the evaluation that ADROC can provide excellent control actions for the MIDO R2R situations even though the process exhibits complicated, nonlinear interaction effects between control variables, and the drifting disturbances.

Effect of seeding ratio on acidogenic biokinetics in high ammonia concentration

  • Anaerobic digestion is one of the well-known methods for biological treatment handling of concentrated organic matter such as swine $wastewater.^{1)} The anaerobic digestion can reduce organic loading but also hydrolyze non-biodegradable organic $matter.^{2)}$ The feces from the scrapper-type barn are usually collected to make compost and the urine is discarded with swine-slurry wastewater by ocean-dumping or treated by biological methods. The lagoon, aerobic digestion, anaerobic digestion, SBR, $A^{2}/O$, and UCT have been applied for treating swine $wastewater.^{3)} In this study, as a result of the analysis of swine wastewater, the total and soluble chemical oxygen demand was 130g/L and 60g/L, respectively. And the volatile fatty acid as chemical oxygen demand equivalent was 45g/L, which was 75% of soluble chemical oxygen demand. Before everything else, ammonia nitrogen concentration was 6.5 g/L. From biochemical acidogenic potential test, it was concluded that the enhanced acidification process to manage swine waste should be operated in the ammonia nitrogen concentration of less than 1.2 g/L. In the result of seeding ratio experiments with artificial $wastewater^{4)}, the lag period of acidogens was taken the long time because of the inhibition by the $ammonia^{5)}$, however no difference of period by the seeding ratio was not shown. The Haldane-based biokinetics were also evaluated using a method of fourth order Runge-Kutta $approximation.^{6,7)}$ The nonlinear least squares (NLLS) method with a 95% confidence interval was also used. The ranges of maximum microbial growth rate, ${/mu_{max}}$, and half saturation coefficient, $K_{s}$, for acidogenesis of various seeding ratio with artificial wastewater were 6.1 ~ 12.6 $d^{-1}$ and 45,000 ~ 53,500 mg glucose/L, respectively. Also, the methanogenic microbial yield coefficient, Y, and microbial decay rate coefficient, $k_{d}$, and inhibition substrate concentration, $K_{si}$, for the reactors were determined to be 0.32 ~ 0.465 ${/mu}g$/mg glucose; 0.42 ~ 1.01 $d^{-1}$ and 51,500 ~ 55,600 mg glucose/L, respectively.

제약 폐수의 생물학적 동력학 계수 측정 (Determination of Biological kinetic Parameters for Pharmaceutical Wastewater)

  • 본 연구는 다양한 유기물과 난분해성 물질들이 포함되어 있는 제약 폐수 내 미생물의 생화학적 특성을 이해하고자 생물학적 동력학 계수를 측정 하고자하였다. 생물학적 동력학 계수는 최대 비성장율과 수율계수, 그리고 반속도상수를 측정하였는데, 각각 10.49/day (0.437/hr), 0.655 그리고 38.89 mg/L로 나타났다. Monod 식의 비선형회귀분석으로 구한 ${\mu}_{max}$ 값 또한 10.63/day (0.443/hr)로 측정되어 두가지 경우에서 구한 값이 유사함을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 생물학적 동력학 계수를 제약 폐수 처리의 활성슬러지 공정의 산소요구량 및 용존 산소 농도 연구와 병행한다면 제약 폐수의 처리 효율 증진 효과를 기대할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Fuzzy PD plus I Controller of a CSTR for Temperature Control

  • A chemical reaction occurring in CSTR (Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor) is significantly affected by the concentration, temperature, pressure, and reacting time of materials, and thus it has strong nonlinear and time-varying characteristics. Also, when an existing linear PID controller with fixed gain is used, the performance could deteriorate or could be unstable if the system parameters change due to the change in the operating point of CSTR. In this study, a technique for the design of a fuzzy PD plus I controller was proposed for the temperature control of a CSTR process. In the fuzzy PD plus I controller, a linear integral controller was added to a fuzzy PD controller in parallel, and the steady-state performance could be improved based on this. For the fuzzy membership function, a Gaussian type was used; for the fuzzy inference, the Max-Min method of Mamdani was used; and for the defuzzification, the center of gravity method was used. In addition, the saturation state of the actuator was also considered during controller design. The validity of the proposed method was examined by comparing the set-point tracking performance and the robustness to the parameter change with those of an adaptive controller and a nonlinear proportional-integral-differential controller.
