Objection of this study is to present the three-dimensional material nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete. A concrete is idealized with three-dimensional 16-node solid element including triaxial nonlinear stress-strain behavior, cracking, crushing and strain softening: a steel with three-dimensional 3 node truss element including elastic-plastic behavior with strain hardening. The cracked shear retention factor is introduced to estimate the effective shear modulus con sidering aggregate interlock after c:racking and a modified newton method is used to obtain a nu merical solution. Numerical results in a gauss point is displayed graphically. Numerical examples of Krahl's reinforced concrete beam and Hedgreds shell are selected to compare with the experimental and numerical results.

Recently, experimental and theoretical studies about nonlinear behavior of large concrete structures are in progress. The purpose of this study is to describe the nonlinear behavior of a concrete specimen under compression using several plastic models and to choose the best plastic model for later use in numerical analyses of concrete structures. ABAQUS is a general-purpose FEM program and we tested all suitable embedded material models for concrete. To verify the effectiveness of nonlinear analyses, results were compared with uniaxial and triaxial compression test results.
In the present study, the nonlinear magneto-electro-mechanical free vibration behavior of rectangular double-bonded sandwich microbeams based on the modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) is investigated. It is noted that the top and bottom sandwich microbeams are considered with boron nitride nanotube reinforced composite face sheets (BNNTRC-SB) with electrical properties and carbon nanotube reinforced composite face sheets (CNTRC-SB) with magnetic fields, respectively, and also the homogenous core is used for both sandwich beams. The connections of every sandwich beam with its surrounding medium and also between them have been carried out by considering Pasternak foundations. To take size effect into account, the MSGT is introduced into the classical Timoshenko beam theory (CT) to develop a size-dependent beam model containing three additional material length scale parameters. For the CNTRC and BNNTRC face sheets of sandwich microbeams, uniform distribution (UD) and functionally graded (FG) distribution patterns of CNTs or BNNTs in four cases FG-X, FG-O, FG-A, and FG-V are employed. It is assumed that the material properties of face sheets for both sandwich beams are varied in the thickness direction and estimated through the extended rule of mixture. On the basis of the Hamilton's principle, the size-dependent nonlinear governing differential equations of motion and associated boundary conditions are derived and then discretized by using generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM). A detailed parametric study is presented to indicate the influences of electric and magnetic fields, slenderness ratio, thickness ratio of both sandwich microbeams, thickness ratio of every sandwich microbeam, dimensionless three material length scale parameters, Winkler spring modulus and various distribution types of face sheets on the first two natural frequencies of double-bonded sandwich microbeams. Furthermore, a comparison between the various beam models on the basis of the CT, modified couple stress theory (MCST), and MSGT is performed. It is illustrated that the thickness ratio of sandwich microbeams plays an important role in the vibrational behavior of the double-bonded sandwich microstructures. Meanwhile, it is concluded that by increasing H/lm, the values of first two natural frequencies tend to decrease for all amounts of the Winkler spring modulus.

The present article researches large-amplitude thermal free vibration characteristics of nonlocal two-phase piezo-magnetic nano-size beams having geometric imperfections by considering piezoelectric reinforcement scheme. The piezoelectric reinforcement can cause an enhanced vibration behavior of smart nanobeams under magnetic field. All previous studies on vibrations of piezoelectric-magnetic nano-size beams ignore the influences of geometric imperfections which are crucial since a nanobeam is not always ideal or perfect. Nonlinear governing equations of a smart nanobeam are derived based on classical beam theory and an analytical trend is provided to obtain nonlinear vibration frequency. This research shows that changing the volume fraction of piezoelectric phase in the material has a great influence on vibration behavior of smart nanobeam under electric and magnetic fields. Also, it can be seen that nonlinear vibration behaviors of smart nanobeam is dependent on the magnitude of exerted electric voltage, magnetic imperfection amplitude and substrate constants.

Soft tissue characterization and modeling based on living tissues has been investigated in order to provide a more realistic behavior in a virtual reality based surgical simulation. In this paper, we characterize the nonlinear viscoelastic properties of intra-abdominal organs using the data from in vivo animal experiments and inverse FE parameter estimation algorithm. In the assumptions of quasi-linear-viscoelastic theory, we estimated the nonlinear material parameters to provide a physically based simulation of tissue deformations. To calibrate the parameters to the experimental results, we developed a three dimensional FE model to simulate the forces at the indenter and an optimization program that updates new parameters and runs the simulation iteratively. The comparison between simulation and experimental behavior of pig intra abdominal soft tissue are presented to provide a validness of the tissue model using our approach.

During earthquake, reinforced concrete walls show complicated post-yield behavior varying with shear span-to-depth ratio, re-bar detail, and loading condition. In the present study, a macro-model for the nonlinear analysis of multi-story wall structures was developed. To conveniently describe the coupled flexure-compression and shear responses, a reinforced concrete wall was idealized with longitudinal and diagonal uniaxial elements. Simplified cyclic material models were used to describe the cyclic behavior of concrete and re-bars. For verification, the proposed method was applied to various existing test specimens of isolated and coupled walls. The results showed that the predictions agreed well with the test results including the load-carrying capacity, deformation capacity, and failure mode. Further the proposed model was applied to an existing wall structure tested on a shaking table. Three-dimensional nonlinear time history analyses using the proposed model were performed for the test specimen. The time history responses of the proposed method agreed with the test results including the lateral displacements and base shear.

During earthquakes, the joints provide a principal means for energy dissipation, and these are also responsible for introducing a nonlinear behavior to the overall building system, while large panels remain in the elastic range. In analysis for the precast concrete large panel system, it is difficult to make a general analysis for their behavior because of differences in joint details. Therefore, in case of presence of vertical joints, it is more difficult because of the interaction between the horizontal joints and vertical joints, In this study, a nonlinear finite element analysis is performed using the gap element, friction element, and concrete material model, and the results are compared with the experimental results.

In part I of this papter Nonlinear Response Optimization using Equivalent Static Loads (NROESL) method/algorithm is developed to conduct optimization for nonlinear behavior structures. The method/algorithm is also verified to show its convergency and optimality. In this present paper, the NROESL algorithm is applied to several structural problems with geometric and/or material nonlinearity. Conventional optimization with sensitivity analysis using the finite difference method is also applied to the same examples. The results of the optimizations are compared. The proposed method is very efficient and derives good solutions.
In this paper an efficient approach is introduced for design and analysis of double-layer grids including both geometrical and material nonlinearities, while the results are compared with those considering material nonlinearity. Optimum design procedure based on Enhanced Colliding Bodies Optimization method (ECBO) is applied to optimal design of two commonly used configurations of double-layer grids. Two ranges of spans as small and big sizes with certain bays of equal length in two directions are considered for each type of square grids. ECBO algorithm obtains minimum weight grid through appropriate selection of tube sections available in AISC Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD). Strength constraints of AISC-LRFD specifications and displacement constraints are imposed on these grids.
The power steering hose is a kind of high-pressure hose with reinforced braids in rubber material. It is usually manufactured through the swaging process. In this paper, the deformation characteristics of a power steering hose during the swaging process were analyzed using the nonlinear finite element method. The material properties were obtained on experiments, and the contact conditions were used in consideration of real manufacturing process. Investigations were focused on the stress and strain values of the hose and meta] components at the maximum jaw stroke and at the completion of the process. Especially, the results of inner rubber component were interpreted in detail, because of its important role in the hose efficiency.
