The importance and interests for saving of energy and cost in industry has grown up. Therefore, process optimization to reduce the process and energy become one of the most important things. The non-heat treated steel, post-heat-treated is no necessary, has attractive points as structural materials. However, establishment of mechanical properties is necessary to apply non-heat-treated steel to structural parts. In this study, for non-heat-treated steel and pre-heat-treated steel, we have investigated microstructure, hardness, the tensile strength, compressive strength. And the FE analysis technology to predict the hardness value of forged part is developed on micro-alloyed steel forged part.
In this paper, the new non-destructive equation will be proposed and evaluated in comparison to the other foreign's non-destructive equation. Through the comparisons cores strength of mock structure with compressive strength obtained from new non-destructive equation ; rebound hammer, ultra-sonic pulse velocity and combined method, it will be analyzed about application of non-destructive equation. The results are following. The new non-destructive equations follow ; (1) $F_c=9.5R{\cdot}N+62.5$ (2) $F_c=243Vp-739$ (3) $F_c=8.1R_o+205.3V_p-802$ where, $F_c$ : Compressive Strength, $R_o$ : Rebound Number. $V_p$ : Ultra-Sonic Pulse Velocity Trough the result of mock structure test, the combined method is superior to rebound method and ultra-sonic pulse velocity method in the estimation of concrete strength. In order to apply the non-destructive equation of concrete strength to the structures, it is necessary that we should be made process study on the non-destructive equation for estimation of concrete strength in the range, time and strength of application under long-term.
Most frequency domain-based approaches assume that structural response should be a Gaussian random process. But a lot of non-Gaussian processes caused by multi-excitation and non-linearity in structural responses or load itself are observed in many real engineering problems. In this study, the effect of non-Normality on fatigue damages are discussed through case study. The accuracy of four frequency domain methods for non-Gaussian processes are compared in the case study. Power-law and Hermite models which are derived for non-Gaussian narrow-banded process tend to estimate fatigue damages less accurate than time domain results in small kurtosis and in case of large kurtosis they give conservative results. Weibull model seems to give conservative results in all environmental conditions considered. Among the four methods, Benascuitti-Tovo model for non-Gaussian process gives the best results in case study. This study could serve as background material for understanding the effect of non-normality on fatigue damages.
Two-dimensional (2D) metal organic framework (MOF) nanosheets (NSs) have recently gained considerable interest owing to their structural advantages, such as large surface area and exposed active sites. Two different types of 2D MOF NSs have been reported, including inherently layered MOFs and non-layered ones. Although several studies on inherently layered 2D MOFs have been reported, non-layered 2D MOFs have been rarely studied. This may be because the non-layered MOFs have a strong preference to form three-dimensionality intrinsically. Furthermore, the non-layered MOFs are typically synthesized in the presence of the surfactant or modulator, and thus developing facile and clean synthetic routes is highly pursued. In this study, a facile and clean synthetic methodology to grow non-layered 2D cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) NSs is suggested, without using any surfactant and modulator at room temperature. This is achieved by directly converting ultrathin α-Co(OH)2 layered hydroxide salt (LHS) NSs into non-layered 2D ZIF-67 NSs. The comprehensive characterizations were conducted to elucidate the conversion mechanism, structural information, thermal stability, and chemical composition of the non-layered 2D ZIF-67. This facile and clean approach could produce a variety of non-layered 2D MOF NS families to extend potential applications of MOF materials.
Under strong ground motion, pounding can be caused because of the different dynamic properties between two adjacent buildings. Using different structural systems in two adjacent structures makes a difference in the lateral stiffness and thus changes the pounding force between them. In this paper, the effect of the structural system of adjacent buildings on the amount of force applied by pounding effects has been investigated. Moment resisting frame systems (MRFs), lateral X-bracing system (LBS), shear wall system (SWS) and dual system (DS) have been investigated. Four different cases has been modelled using finite element (FE) method. The number of stories of the two adjacent buildings is different in each case: case 1 with 6 and 4 stories, case 2 with 9 and 6 stories, case 3 with 15 and 6 stories and case 4 with 10 and 10 stories. The structures have been modelled three-dimensionally. Non-linear time history analysis has been done on the structures using the finite element software SAP2000. In order to model pounding effects, the non-linear gap elements have been used.
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) non-structural protein 5A protein (NS5A), which consists of three functional domains, is involved in regulating viral replication, interferon resistance, and apoptosis. Recently, the three-dimensional structure of the domain 1 was determined. However, currently the molecular basis for the domains 2 and 3 of HCV NS5A is yet to be defined. Toward this end, we expressed, purified the domain 2 of the NS5A (NS5A-D2), and then performed biochemical and structural studies. The purified domain 2 was active and was able to bind NS5B and PKR, biological partners of NS5A. The results from gel filtration, CD analysis, 1D $^1H$ NMR and 2D $^1H-^{15}N$ heteronuclear single quantum correlation (HSQC) spectroscopy indicate that the domain 2 of NS5A appears to be flexible and disordered.

Large and complex structures are being built now-a-days and, they are required to be functional even under extreme loading and environmental conditions. In order to meet the safety and maintenance demands, there is a need to build sensors integrated structural system, which can sense and provide necessary information about the structural response to complex loading and environment. Sophisticated tools have been developed for the design and construction of civil engineering structures. However, very little has been accomplished in the area of monitoring and rehabilitation. The employment of appropriate sensor is therefore crucial, and efforts must be directed towards non-destructive testing techniques that remain functional throughout the life of the structure. Fiber optic sensors are emerging as a superior non-destructive tool for evaluating the health of civil engineering structures. Flexibility, small in size and corrosion resistance of optical fibers allow them to be directly embedded in concrete structures. The inherent advantages of fiber optic sensors over conventional sensors include high resolution, ability to work in difficult environment, immunity from electromagnetic interference, large band width of signal, low noise and high sensitivity. This paper brings out the potential and current status of technology of fiber optic sensors for civil engineering applications. The importance of employing fiber optic sensors for health monitoring of civil engineering structures has been highlighted. Details of laboratory studies carried out on fiber optic strain sensors to assess their suitability for civil engineering applications are also covered.
PURPOSES : Traffic accidents at intersections have been increased annually so that it is required to examine the causations to reduce the accidents. However, the current existing accident models were developed mainly with non-linear regression models such as Poisson methods. These non-linear regression methods lack to reveal complicated causations for traffic accidents, though they are right choices to study randomness and non-linearity of accidents. Therefore, to reveal the complicated causations of traffic accidents, this study used structural equation methods(SEM). METHODS : SEM used in this study is a statistical technique for estimating causal relations using a combination of statistical data and qualitative causal assumptions. SEM allow exploratory modeling, meaning they are suited to theory development. The method is tested against the obtained measurement data to determine how well the model fits the data. Among the strengths of SEM is the ability to construct latent variables: variables which are not measured directly, but are estimated in the model from several measured variables. This allows the modeler to explicitly capture the unreliability of measurement in the model, which allows the structural relations between latent variables to be accurately estimated. RESULTS : The study results showed that causal factors could be grouped into 3. Factor 1 includes traffic variables, and Factor 2 contains turning traffic variables. Factor 3 consists of other road element variables such as speed limits or signal cycles. CONCLUSIONS : Non-linear regression models can be used to develop accident predictions models. However, they lack to estimate causal factors, because they select only few significant variables to raise the accuracy of the model performance. Compared to the regressions, SEM has merits to estimate causal factors affecting accidents, because it allows the structural relations between latent variables. Therefore, this study used SEM to estimate causal factors affecting accident at urban signalized intersections.
Solar radiation causes non-uniform temperature distribution in the structure, depending on the shape of the structure and its shadows. Especially in cases of curved steel box girder bridges, non-uniform temperature distribution due to solar radiation can reduce bridge life and serviceability when combined with another load combination. In this study, the method for predicting the temperature distribution of curved bridges developed by Kim et al., was used to predict the non-uniform temperature distribution which served as a basis for structural analysis of 3-D bridge behavior. In order to seek the most unfavorable conditions of solar radiation, observation data from the Korea Meteorological Administration for solar radiation were analyzed. The region of the most high solar radiation condition was selected and its one year variation of the solar radiation data was considered. From this analysis, the most unfavorable solar radiation condition with lower solar altitude and intense solar radiation was selected. Based on the selected solar radiation condition, structural behavior of curved bridges with diverse bridge direction, span length, radius and support conditions are analyzed.

Using of masonry infill as partitions, in flat slab frame buildings is a common practice in many parts of the world. The infill is, generally, not considered in the design and the buildings are designed as bare frames. More of fundamental information in the effect of masomary infill on the seismic performance of RC building frames is in great demand for structural engineers. Therefore the main aim of this research is to evaluate the seismic performance of such buildings without (bare frame) and with various systems of the masonary infill. For this purpose, thirteen three dimensional models are chosen and analyzed by SAP2000 program. In this study the stress strain relation model proposed by Crisafulli for the hysteric behaviour of masonary subjected to cyclic loading is used. The results show that the nonstructural masonary infill can impart significant increase global strength and stiffness of such building frames and can enhance the seismic behaviour of flat slab frame building to large extent depending on infill wall system. As a result great deal of insight has been obtained on seismic response of such flat slab buildings which enable the structural engineer to determine the optimum position of infill wall between the columns.
