In this article, the performance of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) flat slabs was investigated numerically. The influence of flexural steel reinforcement, steel fiber content, concrete compressive strength, and slab thickness were discussed. The numerical model was developed using ATENA-Gid, user-friendly software for non-linear structural analysis for the evaluation and design of reinforced concrete elements. The numerical model was calibrated based on eight experimental tests selected from the literature to validate the actual behavior of steel fiber in the numerical analysis. Then, a parametric study of 144 specimens was generated and discussed the impact of various parameters on the punching shear strength, and statistical analysis was carried out. The results showed that slab thickness, steel fiber content, and concrete compressive strength positively affect the punching shear capacity. The fib Model Code 2010 for specimens without steel fibers and the model of Muttoni and Ruiz for SFRC specimens presented a good agreement with the results of this study.
Realistic assessment of the performance of reinforced concrete structural members like columns is needed for designing new structures or maintenance of the existing structural members. This assessment requires analytical capability of employing proper material models and cyclic rules and considering various load and displacement patterns. A computer application was developed to analyze the non-linear, cyclic flexural performance of reinforced concrete structural members under various types of loading paths including non-sequential variations in axial load and bi-axial cyclic load or displacement. Different monotonic material models as well as hysteresis rules, were implemented in a fiber-based moment-curvature and in turn force-deflection analysis, using proper assumptions on curvature distribution along the member, as in plastic-hinge models. Performance of the program was verified against analytical results by others, and accuracy of the analytical process and the implemented models were evaluated in comparison to the experimental results. The computer application can be used to predict the response of a member with an arbitrary cross section and various type of lateral and longitudinal reinforcement under different combinations of loading patterns in axial and bi-axial directions. On the other hand, the application can be used to examine analytical models and methods using proper experimental data.

The stability of slope using root-pile like to the reinforcements is affected by the interaction behavior mechanism of soil-reinforcements. Through the studying on the interaction in joint of its, therefore, the control roles can be find out in installed slope. In study, the stress level ratio based on the insert angle of installed reinforcements in soil used to numerical analysis, which was results from the duty direct shear test in Lab. The maximum shear strain variation on the reinforcements was observed at insert angle, which was approximately similar to the calculated angle based on the equation proposed by the Jewell. The elasto-plastic joint model on the contact area of soil-reinforcements was presumed, the reinforced soil assumed non-linear elastic model and the reinforcements supposed elastic model, respectively. The finite element analysis of assumed models was performed. The shear strain variation of non-reinforced state obtained by the FEM analysis including elasto-plastic joint elements were shown the rationality of general limit equilibrium analysis for the slope failure mode on driving zone and resistance zone, which based on the stress level step according to failure ratio. Through the variation of shear strain for the variation of inserting angle of reinforcements, the different mechanism on the bending and the shear resistance of reinforcements was shown fair possibility.
Seven post-tensioned lightweight concrete (LWC) beam specimens were tested under a symmetrical two-point top loading system. The parameters investigated were the amounts of mild longitudinal reinforcement and effective prestressing. The design compressive strength and dry density of the LWC tested were 30 MPa and 1,770 $kg/m^3$, respectively. Similar to post-tensioned normal weight concrete (NWC) beams, the crack propagation and stress increase of the unbonded tendons were significantly affected by the amounts of mild longitudinal reinforcement and effective prestressing. With the increase in the amounts of mild longitudinal reinforcement and effective prestressing, the serviceability and flexural capacity of the beams were enhanced whereas the stress increase in the unbonded tendons decreased. To control the crack width in post-tensioned LWC beams, a minimum amount of mild longitudinal reinforcement specified in ACI 318-08 provision is required. The flexural behavior of post-tensioned LWC beams and stress increase of the unbonded tendons could be rationally predicted by the proposed non-linear two-dimensional analysis. On the other hand, ACI 318-08 flexure provision was too conservative about the post-tensioned LWC beams.

Subsea pipelines are widely used to transport hydrocarbons from ultra-deep seawater to facilities on the coast. A sandwich pipe is a pipe-in-pipe system in which the annulus between the two concentric steel pipes is filled with polymer cores and fillers for insulation and structural reinforcement. Sandwich pipeline is always exposed to complex loading such as bending moment, bulking, internal and external pressures caused by installation, operation and environmental factors. This research provides insights into the structural integrity of sandwich pipeline exposed to complex loading conditions using a linear matching method (LMM). The finite element model of the sandwich pipeline has been generated from previous research, and the model validation is performed by comparing the results of the linear analysis between the two models. The temperature dependent material properties are used to simulate the behavior of real pipeline, and the elastic-perfectly plastic (EPP) model has been taken into account for the material non-linearity. Numerical results provide comprehensive insights into the structural response of the sandwich pipeline under monotonic and cyclic loading and provide notable points about the evaluation of the plastic collapse limit and the elastic shakedown limit of the sandwich pipeline.

Progressive collapse in a structure occurs when load bearing members are failed and the adjoining structural elements cannot resist the redistributed forces and fails subsequently, that leads to complete collapse of structure. Recently, construction using precast concrete technology is adopted increasingly because it offers many advantages like faster construction, less requirement of skilled labours at site, reduced formwork and scaffolding, massive production with reduced amount of construction waste, better quality and better surface finishing as compared to conventional reinforced concrete construction. Connections are the critical elements for any precast structure, because in past, major collapse of precast structure took place because of connection failure. In this study, behavior of four different precast wet connections with U shaped reinforcement bars provided at different locations is evaluated. Reduced 1/3rd scale precast beam column assemblies having two span beam and three columns with removed middle column are constructed and examined by performing experiments. The response of precast connections is compared with monolithic connection, under column removal scenario. The connection region of test specimens are filled by cast-in-place micro concrete with and without polypropylene fibers. Performance of specimen is evaluated on the basis of ultimate load carrying capacity, maximum deflection at the location of removed middle column, crack formation and failure propagation. Further, Finite element (FE) analysis is carried out for validation of experimental studies and understanding the performance of structural components. Monolithic and precast beam column assemblies are modeled using non-linear Finite Element (FE) analysis based software ABAQUS. Actual experimental conditions are simulated using appropriate boundary and loading conditions. Finite Element simulation results in terms of load versus deflection are compared with that of experimental study. The nonlinear FE analysis results shows good agreement with experimental results.
This study explores the enhancement of mechanical properties in Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) composites through the incorporation of Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) and Ethylene Glycol Dimethacrylate (EGDMA). Utilizing Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology, we conducted a series of experiments to analyze the impact of varying concentrations of MMA and EGDMA on PMMA. The results indicate that while MMA demonstrates non-linear and variable mechanical strength across different PMMA concentrations, EGDMA consistently improves mechanical strength as PMMA concentration increases. This consistent enhancement by EGDMA suggests a stable and predictable reinforcement effect, which is critical for applications requiring high mechanical strength. Our comparative analysis highlights that EGDMA is a more effective additive than MMA for optimizing the mechanical performance of PMMA composites. Specifically, EGDMA's ability to provide uniform reinforcement across various PMMA concentrations makes it ideal for high-strength applications. These findings are significant for material scientists and engineers focused on the design and development of advanced PMMA-based materials. In conclusion, this research underscores the importance of selecting appropriate additives to enhance the mechanical properties of PMMA composites. The superior performance of EGDMA in reinforcing PMMA suggests its potential for broader applications in fields such as automotive, construction, medical devices, and 3D printing. This study provides valuable insights that can guide future research and development in high-performance composite materials, paving the way for innovative applications and improved material efficiency.
In this paper, the fracture toughness and mechanisms of failure in a random SiC-whisker/$Al_{2}O_3$ ceramic composite were investigated using in situ observations during mode I(opening) loading. $SiC_{w}/Al_{2}O_3$ composite was obtained by hot press sintering of $Al_{2}O_3$ powder and SiC whisker as the matrix and reinforcement, respectively. The whisker and powder were mixed using a turbo mill. The composite was produced at SiC whisker volume fraction of $0.3\%$. Compared with monolithic $Al_{2}O_3$, fracture toughness enhancement was observed in $SiC_{w}/Al_{2}O_3$ composite. This improved fracture toughness was attributed to SiC whisker bridging and crack deflection. $SiC_{w}/Al_{2}O_3$ composite exhibited typically brittle fracture behavior, but a fracture process zone was observed in this composite. This means that the load versus load-line displacement curve of $SiC_{w}/Al_{2}O_3$ composite from a fracture test may involve a small non-linear region near the peak load.
Force-deformation modelling of cracked reinforced concrete is essential for a displacement-based seismic assessment of structures and can be achieved by fibre-element analysis of the cross-section of the major lateral resisting elements. The non-linear moment curvature relationship obtained from fibre-element analysis takes into account the significant effects of axial pre-compression and contributions by the longitudinal reinforcement. Whilst some specialised analysis packages possess the capability of incorporating fibre-elements into the modelling (e.g., RESPONSE 2000), implementation of the analysis on EXCEL is illustrated in this paper. The outcome of the analysis is the moment-curvature relationship of the wall cross-section, curvature at yield and at damage control limit states specified by the user. Few software platforms can compete with EXCEL in terms of its transparencies, versatility and familiarity to the computer users. The program has the capability of handling arbitrary cross-sections that are without an axis of symmetry. Application of the program is illustrated with examples of typical cross-sections of structural walls. The calculated limiting curvature for the considered cross-sections were used to construct displacement profiles up the height of the wall for comparison with the seismically induced displacement demand.

Current design codes regarding compression lap splice dose not utilize merits of the improved strength of ultra-high strength concrete. Especially, a compression lap splice can be calculated longer than a tension lap splice according to the codes because they do not consider effects of strength of concrete and transverse reinforcement. Design equation is proposed for compression lap splice in 40 to 70 MPa of compressive strength of concrete. The proposed equation is based on 51 specimens. Through two-variable non-linear regression analysis of measured splice strengths, a splice strength equation is derived, which is converted into a splice length equation.
