  • The test was done on cars travelling at speeds of 20km/h, 60km/h and 100km/h, the performance testing mode for chassis dynamometer. In this test, the secondary waveform were measured, including those using faulty MAP sensors, oxygen sensors and spark plugs. The results from these measurements and their analysis of secondary waveform can be summarized as follows: 1) The secondary waveform measured from the faulty oxygen sensor showed a lot of noise around peak voltage and in the rising and falling sections during spark line which means that the air fuel mixture was non-homogeneous. 2) The secondary waveform from the faulty MAP sensor showed the worst shape compared to other sensors, including variation of spark line, state of air-fuel mixture and velocity of flame front. 3) The spark line time of secondary waveform using a faulty spark plug displayed the shortest and smallest energy spark line, which means that a misfire occurred.

  • The sorption kinetic was studied to evaluate feasibility of removing PCBs from mineral oil with activated carbon. Adsorption efficiency for Aroclor 1242 which is composed of lower chlorinated PCB formulations was $\geq$ 95%, whereas the adsorption efficiency for Aroclor 1260 having higher chlorinated constituents was considerably lower with the efficiency falling to 75%. The observed difference in the adsorption efficiency is attributed to the geometry of PCBs with non-planar and coplanar structure. The concentration of coplanar PCBs is appreciably higher in Aroclor 1242. Since toxicity is primarily associated with coplanar congeners, the preferential adsorption of coplanar congeners by activated carbon accounts for the fact that toxicity reduction can be achieved through this process. The efficiency of process was assessed in terms of Toxicity Equivalence Factor (TEF).

  • Objective: Older persons with diabetes mellitus (DM) are particularly more likely to have fallen in the previous year than those without DM. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the risk of falls and type 2 DM in older adults who are 65 years of age or above. Design: A systematic review. Methods: PubMed and other two databases were searched up to August 2, 2018. Observational and cohort studies evaluating fall risk in people who are 65 years of age or above with DM were included. This review extracted the following information from each study selected: first author's surname, year of publication, country, average follow-up period, sex, age at enrollment, study population, measurement variables, relative risk, 95% confidence intervals and controlled variables. Results: This review involved nine cohort studies with 3,765 older adults with DM and 12,989 older adults without DM. Six studies compared with or without DM and two studies compared fallers with non-fallers with DM. Risk factors for falls included impaired cognitive function, diabetes-related complications (peripheral nerve dysfunction, visual impairment), and physical function (balance, gait velocity, muscle strength, and severity of physical activities). Conclusions: People who are 65 years of age or above with DM have increased risk of falling caused by impaired cognitive function, peripheral nerve dysfunction, visual impairment, and physical function in community-dwellers. For adults who are 65 years of age or older with DM, research fields and clinical settings should consider therapeutic approaches to improve these risk factors for falls.

  • In this paper, optimal control of the fuel cell and design of a high-efficiency power converter is implemented to build a high-priced fuel cell system with minimum capacity. Conventional power converter devices use a non-isolated boost converter for high efficiency while the battery is charged, and reduce its conduction loss by using MOSFETs instead of diodes. However, the efficiency of the boost converter decreases, since overshoot occurs because there is a moment when the body diode of the MOSFET is conducted during the dead time and huge loss occurs when the dead time for the maximum-power-flowing state is used in the low-power-flowing state. The method proposed in this paper is to adjust the dead time of boost and rectifier switches by predicting the power flow to meet the maximum efficiency in every load condition. After analyzing parasite components, the stability and efficiency of the high-efficiency boost converter is improved by predictive compensation of the delay component of each part, and it is proven by simulation and experience. The variation in switching delay times of each switch of the full-bridge converter is compensated by falling time compensation, a control method of PWM, and it is also proven by simulation and experience.

  • The evaporation characteristics of single and multicomponent droplets hanging at the tip of a quartz fiber are studied experimentally at the different environmental conditions under normal gravity. Heptane and Hexadecane are selected as two fuels with different evaporation rates and boiling temperatures. At the first step, the evaporation of single component droplet of both fuels has been examined separately. At the next step the evaporation of several blends of these two fuels, as a binary component droplet, has been studied. The temperature and pressure range is selected between 400 and 700 $^{\circ}C$, and 0.1 and 2.5 MPa, respectively. High temperature environment has been provided by a falling electrical furnace. The initial diameter of droplet was in range of 1.1 and 1.3 mm. The evaporation process was recorded by a high speed CCD camera. The results of binary droplet evaporation show the three staged evaporation. In the the first stage the more volatile component evaporates. The droplet temperature rises after an almost non evaporating period and in the third stage a quasi linear evaporation takes place. The evaporation of the binary droplet at low pressure is accompanied with bubble formation and droplet fragmentation and leads to incomplete microexplosion. The component concentration affects the evaporation behavior of the first two stages. The bubble formation and droplet distortion does not appear at high environment pressure. Nomenclature

  • The evaporation of water from an aqueous solution is widely used in the food, desalination, pulp, and chemical industries. Usually, a large amount of energy is consumed in the evaporation process to boil off water due to atmospheric pressure. As a way of improving the energy efficiency of the evaporation process, the combination of multiple effect evaporation and thermal vapor recompression has been proposed and has become a successful technique. In this study, 4 multiple-effect falling film type evaporators for sugar solution are designed and the energy efficiency of the system is analyzed in response to the selection of the steam ejector position. Energy efficiency is increased and vapor is more compressed in the steam ejector as the Thermal Vapor Recompression (TVR) is arranged in the rear part of the evaporator system. A simplified 0-dimensional evaporator model is developed using non-linear equations derived from mass balances, energy balances, and heat transfer equations. Steam economy is calculated to compare the evaporation performance of the 4 proposed evaporators. The entrainment ratio, compression ratio, and expansion ratio are computed to check the ejector performance.

  • In solid-liquid two phase flow, the knowledge of how descending solid particles affected by the presence of downstream wall is important. This work studies at what interstitial distance the velocity of a vertically descending sphere is affected by a downstream wall as a consequence of wall-modified hydrodynamic forces through a validated dynamic model. This interstitial distance-the hydrodynamic coupling distance ${\delta}_c-is$ found to decay monotonically with the approach Stokes number St which compares the particle inertia to viscous drag characterized by the quasi-steady Stokes' drag. The scaling relation ${\delta}_c-St-1$ decays monotonically as literature below the value of St equal to 10. However, the faster diminishing rate is found above the threshold value from St=10-40. Furthermore, an empirical relation of ${\delta}_c-St$ shows dependence on the drop height which clearly indicates the non-negligible effect of unsteady hydrodynamic force components, namely the added mass force and the history force. Finally, we attempt a fitting relation which embedded the particle acceleration effect in the dependence of fitting constants on the diameter-scaled drop height.

  • The most common cause of primary hyperparathyroidism is a single adenoma accounts for more than 85% and about 1-2% in multiple occurrence. The adenoma arises mainly in the neck and rarely in the mediastinum. The simultaneous occurrence is extremely rare. A 73-year-old man came to our clinic complained about sense of falling forward during last eight months. The brain MRI and vestibular function test showed non-specific findings but total calcium and intact parathyroid hormone levels were markedly elevated. Radiologic studies and sesta-MIBI scan revealed multiple masses in lower paratracheal area and superior mediastinum. We performed mass excision with transcervical approach and all of them were diagnosed as parathyroid adenoma. After surgery, intact PTH and calcium levels returned to the normal range and his symptoms were dramatically improved. We report the unique and rare disease entity with a brief literature review.

  • One of the most well-known geometric lattices is a partition lattice. Every upper interval of a partition lattice is a partition lattice. The whitney numbers of a partition lattices are the Stirling numbers, and the characteristic polynomial is a falling factorial. The set of partitions with a single non-trivial block containing a fixed element is a Boolean sublattice of modular elements, so the partition lattice is supersolvable in the sense of Stanley [6]. In this paper, we rephrase four results due to Heller[1] and Murty [4] in terms of matroids and give several characterizations of partition lattices. Our notation and terminology follow those in [8,9]. To clarify our terminology, let G, be a finte geometric lattice. If S is the set of points (or rank-one flats) in G, the lattice structure of G induces the structure of a (combinatorial) geometry, also denoted by G, on S. The size vertical bar G vertical bar of the geometry G is the number of points in G. Let T be subset of S. The deletion of T from G is the geometry on the point set S/T obtained by restricting G to the subset S/T. The contraction G/T of G by T is the geometry induced by the geometric lattice [cl(T), over ^1] on the set S' of all flats in G covering cl(T). (Here, cl(T) is the closure of T, and over ^ 1 is the maximum of the lattice G.) Thus, by definition, the contraction of a geometry is always a geometry. A geometry which can be obtained from G by deletions and contractions is called a minor of G.

  • Livelihood capitals have a clear influence on livelihood development. As for the livelihood results, it has been pointed out in the analysis of the poor households that the ability of people to escape poverty depends especially on the access to livelihood capitals. This study aims to analyze the impacts of livelihood capital on poverty among mountain people who depend on forests through human capital, social capital, natural capital, physical capital and financial capital. This research employs the model of binary regression function. Independent variables x1, x2, …, xn are targets of livelihood strategy, vulnerability context, and livelihood capitals. These variables were selected to be included in the original model with dependent variable Y as poor and non-poor households. This study surveys households living in upland areas, near forests, and households of ethnic minorities. The results show that, out of the poor household rate, nearly 4% are newly-poor households or those falling back into poverty. Therefore, the government needs to pay more attention to this disadvantaged group and implements policies such as education and training policies, credit support policies, policies to support forest development, and payment for forest environmental services in the context of emerging countries like Vietnam.
