  • In this paper measurement method of uranium isotope ratio of uranium-bearing particles in swipe samples was introduced; Swipe sample screening program was proposed on the basis of studying various destructive assay and non-destructive assays. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence(XRF) system was applied to locate the deposited uranium-containing particles on the graphite support, particle's composition and size can be identified. Some isotope ratio results were compared with those of other bulk analytical methods; By measuring the same prepared sample, we got the U-particle isotopic ratio data similar to those from IAEA NWAL, indicating that our operation parameters and experimental conditions are viable and can be used for measurement of U-particle isotopic ratio from swipe samples.

  • Conventional measurement methods using ultrasonic wave or x-ray, eddy current for non-destructive testing(NDT) in nuclear power plants and other industrial plants have been performed as the method of contact with objects to be inspected. With this reason these methods have been taken relatively much time and the inspected area is limited by the location of probe or film. But holographic interferometry which is a non-contact optical measurement method using a coherent light source has an advantage that the quantitative measurement can be performed at a time. In this paper a new method using holographic interferometry and image processing for detecting internal flaws of pressure vessels is presented.

  • 본 고는 적외선 열화상의 개념과 적외선열화상 측정윈리 및 카메라 셋팅을 기술하고 적외선열화강(IRT)에 의한 비파괴검사(NDT)의 활용 및 비파괴검사의 진단에 대하여 살펴보았다. 적외선 열화상은 주어진 표면을 따라 온도에 관련된 열패턴의 평가를 통한 정기적인 비접촉, 비파괴 시험의 수행으로 초기에 장비 고장의 예방이 가능하다. 진단 활용으로서, 열적으로 가열된 내부결함이 있는 블록에 대하여 적외선열화상을 이용한 열화상 패턴을 비파괴 기법으로 평가하고, 결함과 열화상패턴간의 특성을 분석하여 열화상 평가 기법에 대하여 논하였다.

  • Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has become a widely used method in food and beverage analysis because of its speed, accuracy and the simplicity of sample preparation. One of the basic requirements of NIR instruments is a wide dynamic range if weak, or small, absorption changes or concentrations are to be measured. Thus the instrument must be sufficiently luminous, and efficient, to enable measurements to be made in a reasonably short time, as for some applications (e.g. sorting) short response times are essential. Diode lasers function the same way as lasers but linewidths are not as narrow as typical lasers. In this work an array of seven laser diodes (in the range of 750-1100 nm) with energy outputs of around hundred milliwatts each were combined with a fast diode array spectrometer (400-1100 nm, 1024 pixels, integration time from 3 ms) as detector. Measurements in transmission mode were performed in solutions of sugars in aqueous solutions and in deuteriumoxide. The feasibility of non-destructive measurements in transmission mode was investigated for different fruits and vegetables.

용접부 비파괴 검사의 신뢰성 비교: 화력 발전소의 보일러 수냉벽 배관 사례연구 (Comparative Reliability of Nondestructive Testing for Weld: Water Wall Tube in Thermal Power Plant Boiler Case Study)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research is to find which technique, between the PAUT (Phased array ultrasonic test) that has been used widely in practice and RT (Radiographic test) that was used widely in the past, has the higher reliability as a non-destructive testing of welding points in water wall tubes. Methods: To evaluated the reliability of non-destructive testing, eleven test pieces that were fabricated intentionally, which have the most frequently occurred defect types in water wall tubes and then both the PAUT and RT were performed on those eleven test pieces to compare their reliability. Results: The differences of type of defect, length are occurred due to the characteristics of nondestructive testing. The RT could not detect the lack of fusion defect type in specimen #4 and #8 while PAUT could not detect the lateral crack and 1 mm size small porosity in specimen #11. Conclusion: It is concluded that applying both the RT and PAUT result the best reliability rather than applying only one test method, if it is possible, in nondestructive testing of weld water wall tube in thermal power plant boiler case.

  • 최근 터널구조물에서 결함이나 변상이 많이 발생하고 있지만 터널구조물의 특수성으로 인하여 그 원인을 평가하거나, 상태 및 안전성 평가에 있어 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 따라서 보다 효율적인 안전진단 및 유지관리대책이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 터널에서의 정밀안전진단을 효과적으로 수행하기 위하여 터널 라이닝과 주변지반에 대한 비파괴 조사기술, 터널 라이닝의 구조적 안정성을 평가할 수 있는 해석기술, 그리고 터널의 변상원인 및 건전도를 판단할 수 있는 평가기술을 개발하여 터널의 열화 및 손상정도를 진단하고 터널의 유지관리를 위한 적절한 보수 보강대책을 제시함으로서 체계적인 터널 안전진단업무에 활용하도록 하였다.

In-line measurement of residence time distribution in twin-screw extruder using non-destructive ultrasound

  • In this study, we performed RTD measurement at the die exit of co-rotating twin-screw extruder using a non-destructive ultrasonic device. The ultrasonic device was attached at slit die and was composed of a steel buffer rod and 10 MHz longitudinal piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer. This in-line ultrasonic monitoring method is based on the ultrasonic response of $CaCO_3$ filled in polymer. The RTD is evaluated by variation of ultrasonic attenuation with time caused by change of the tracer concentration during extrusion. The ultrasonic tracer, pellet type of compounded $CaCO_3$ in polymer was used in this study. The effects of tracer concentration on RTD and flow patterns were studied. Evaluation for the residence functions at different screw speeds, feeding rates and screw configurations were also carried out.

  • 전산화 단층촬영법을 이용하여 탄소/탄소 목삽입재의 밀도 분포를 평가하였다. 전산화 단층촬영법의 Team hardening, 전기적 잡음 및 산란 X-ray의 영상을 보정하고 신호 대 잡음비를 높여 최적화할 때 측정된 탄소/탄소 복합재료의 밀도는 98.74%의 신뢰도 수준에서 ${\pm}0.01g/cm^3$ 분포를 갖는 것으로 평가되었다. 전산화 단층촬영 결과의 검증은 탄소/탄소 목삽입재를 절단하여 수침법에 의한 밀도 측정과 주사전자현미경 관찰을 통하여 수행되었으며 단층촬영 결과는 수침법에 의한 밀도 분포와 주사전자현미경의 영상과 일치하였다.

  • 재령 초기에 발생하는 부등건조수축과 시멘트의 수화반응에 의한 수화열은 초기재령 콘크리트 균열의 주요 원인이다. 다라서 재령 초기 콘크리트의 균열 발생 여부를 예측하기 위해서는 수화열과 부등건조수축에 의하여 발생되는 응력의 계산이 필수적이며, 이를 위해서는 초기 재령 콘크리트의 역학적 성질 파악이 매우 중요하다. 이 연구에서는 콘크리트의 동탄성계수와 압축강도, 정탄성계수와 같은 역학적 성질들과의 관계를 구명하기 위하여 공명주기법을 이용한 비파괴 실험을 실시하였으며, 얻어진 실험결과를 기존 예측식과 비교하였다. 또한 기존의 실험치와 이 연구의 실험치를 이용하여 보다 정확한 예측식들을 제안하였다.

Ultrasonic velocity as a tool for mechanical and physical parameters prediction within carbonate rocks

  • Physical and mechanical properties of rocks are of interest in many fields, including materials science, petrophysics, geophysics and geotechnical engineering. Uniaxial compressive strength UCS is one of the key mechanical properties, while density and porosity are important physical parameters for the characterization of rocks. The economic interest of carbonate rocks is very important in chemical or biological procedures and in the field of construction. Carbonate rocks exploitation depends on their quality and their physical, chemical and geotechnical characteristics. A fast, economic and reliable technique would be an evolutionary advance in the exploration of carbonate rocks. This paper discusses the ability of ultrasonic wave velocity to evaluate some mechanical and physical parameters within carbonate rocks (collected from different regions within Tunisia). The ultrasonic technique was used to establish empirical correlations allowing the estimation of UCS values, the density and the porosity of carbonate rocks. The results illustrated the behavior of ultrasonic pulse velocity as a function of the applied stress. The main output of the work is the confirmation that ultrasonic velocity can be effectively used as a simple and economical non-destructive method for a preliminary prediction of mechanical behavior and physical properties of rocks.
