A 24-year-old woman complained of recurrent episodes of hypersomnia lasting on the average about 15 days with mild mood alternation such as depression and irritability. During interepisode interval, she was free of any symptoms. Depending on the absence of excessive eating and hypersexuality, she was clinically diagnosed as recurrent monosymptomatic hypersomnia or the incomplete form of Kleine-Levin syndrome. When nocturnal polysomnography and multiple sleep latency test were performed 10 days after her recovery from a hypersomnic episode, reduced slow wave sleep % and pathologic daytime sleepiness were still noted. The authors suggest that the clinical recovery in recurrent monosymptomatic hypersomnia precede electrophysiological normalization by several days.

The results of adult mosquitoes collection at Uijeongbu-si, Dongducheon-si in Gyeonggi-do where malaria outbreak occur in Korea are presented. Light traps collection were operated for adult collection from April to October, 2001. Among the total 12 species comprising 4 genera, 4 species in Anopheles, 3 species in Aedes, 1 species in Armigeres and 4 species in Culex were identified in the collection using the black light traps. The adult population densities of Anopheles sinensis peaked at an average of 200 in Gwangam-dong, Dongduchen-si in July and an average an average of 977 in Songsan-dong, Uijeongbu-si in August. Nocturnal Activities of Anopheles sinensisn peaked at between 22:00 ∼23:00(21.0%) and 16.4% between 21:00 and 22:00, 13.1% between 23:00 and 24:00, 13.0% between 20:00 and 21:00, 11.7% between 24:00 and 01:00 in averages.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by identity and interpersonal problem, affective dysregulation and pervasive severe impulsivity. Although sleep disturbances are not primary symptoms of BPD, they are important aspects of this disorder. However, clinicians and researchers did not give much attention to the sleep symptoms of BPD yet. Measured by nocturnal polysomnography, increased sleep latency as well as reduced total sleep time and sleep efficiency, and 'depression-like' REM abnormalities (i.e., reduced REM latency and increased REM density) are found in BPD patients. Co-morbid sleep disorders such as chronic insomnia, nightmare disorder or circadian rhythm sleep disorder associated with BPD have been reported. Clinicians should focus on the sleep complaints of BPD patients, and carefully manage such symptoms with sleep hygiene education, cognitive psychotherapy or light therapy.

Narcolepsy is a central neurologic system disease. It begins early in life with disabling symptoms including excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, sleep paralysis, hypnagogic hallucination and nocturnal sleep fragmentation. Patient with typical symptoms of narcolepsy is diagnosed by objective data from nocturnal polysomnography and multiple sleep latency tests. Narcolepsy is controlled with various medications. Nowadays, modafinil with favorable side effects profiles compared with traditional stimulant is mainly used. Gamma hydroxyl butyrate is effective in cataplexy. Cataplexy is also controlled with antidepressant such as Venlafaxine, SSRI, and TCA. As the knowledge of pathophysiology of narcolepsy expands, new treatment including immunological method, application of hypocretin and histamine systems have been tried.

The present study investigated the sleep patterns 1-to 3-year-old children and examined whether their sleep patterns would predict their early adjustment to daycare centers. The participants were 239 young children attending daycare centers in Seoul. The data on children's sleep patterns were collected by parent report. Children's adjustment to daycare was assessed by daycare providers' reports. The data were analyzed by means of Chi-square test, t-test, Pearson's correlation, ANOVA and discriminant analysis. The results were as follows: Children from dual-earner families had shorter nocturnal sleep duration than those from single-earner families. There was no significant relation between daytime sleep duration and sleep-onset time at night. It was found that children who go to bed earlier were more likely to get sufficient sleep without nocturnal wakefulness. Age and total sleep duration were seen to be significant variables when it came to discriminating between the adjustment versus maladjustment groups.

목적： 야간성 전두협 발작 (Nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy NFLE)은 임상적으로 특징적인 야간성 운동성 발작으로 잘 알려져 있지만 일반적인 MR 영상에서는 대부분에서는 특이한 소견을 보이지 않아 확산 텐서 영상 (DTI)에서의 이상 소견 발현 유무를 알아보고자 한다. 대상 및 방법： 임상적 소견과, EEG 소견으로 진단된 NFLE 환자 6명을 대상으로 DTI 영상을 촬영하였다. 남자 2명, 여자 4명으로 평균연령은 32세 이었다. DTI영상은 single shot spin echo EPI 펄스 열을 사용하였고 사용한 영상 변수는 b value는 0, 1000 s/$\textrm{mm}^2$, TR 10000 msec, TE 71.8/72.3 msec, matrix 128$\times$128 (256 reconstruction), FOV 23cm, 5mm thickness, 2mm interstice gap, NEX 1. 19 slices, time은 4min 21sec (25방향) 이었다. 대조군으로 정상 성인 10명 (평균연령 31세)에서 동일한 방법으로 DTI 영상을 시행하여 분할 비등방도 (fractional anisotropy) 영상을 얻고 전두엽 백질에서 분할 비등방도 값을 측정하여 NFLE 환자군과 비교하였다.

The low level atmospheric obsewation carried out to Investigate magnitude, formation and dissipation of nocturnal surface Inversion layer, also to survey relation to each meterological parameter In Inversion layer at Pusan power plant for Oct. 13, 1996. As coastal area, the surface Inversion layer height was relatively high(186m), and after sunset unstable layer formated firom surface to around 40m, and the Inversion layer was left still in the upper layer. The surface Inversion layer dissipated at 0920LST perfectly. The layer that strong Inversion layer was formated, showed steep variation of potential temperature and wand speed and relative humidity.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is an uncommon hematologic disease characterized by an abnormal sensitivity of blood cells to the lytic action of serum complement. We experienced one case of PNH in Yeungnam University Hospital from May 1983 to May 1989. The patients was followed up without severe complications for 4 years since diagnosis with the only consevating treatments such as washed blood transfusion, adrenal corticosteroids, androgens, folate and iron preparation, intermittently.

The purpose of this experiment is to study the radiant cooling effects by a plate directly viewing the nighttime sky. The measurements are performed on a rooftop of the Engineering building at the Dongguk University in Seoul during the month of August in 2004. The radiant cooling effects are compared using three different types of plate sufaces, namely, galvanized iron, black painted, and aluminum film coated galvanized iron plate. Among these plates, the black Painted surface showed the lowest temperature that is lower than the ambient temperature. The maximum radiant cooling temperature difference, which is ambient temperature minus plate temperature, observed is about 5 K.

The color temperature and light color of nighttime lighting in a particular city is an important factor in determining its nighttime identity. To quantitatively analyze the nocturnal characteristics of Seoul, this study focuses on the light color of the lighting sources that used in the places included in the Seoul Night View 100 Photobook. As a result, the color temperature of white light in the surveyed places is in the range of 2,500~3,500K, of which 3,000~3,500K represents the highest proportion. In addition, the color temperature in the 2,500~3,500K range was found to be evenly distributed across the five surveyed regions. Apart from white light, blue color hue accounts for a high percentage in the monochromic light category, and the excitation purity was measured to be 71.6% on average. In addition, 46% of the buildings with monochromic light are in urban centers.
