Purpose: The object of this study was to determine if the low-priced alloy and metal UCLA abutment could be available for manufacturing bar-retained framework of implant prosthesis. Materials and methods: Bar structure was classified into 4 groups, The specimen of group 1 and 2 were based on casting high noble metal alloys and noble metal alloys with gold UCLA abutment. The specimen of group 3 and 4 were based on casting noble metal alloys and base metal alloys with metal UCLA abutment. Cast bar structure was installed in an acrylic resin model and only the screw on the hexed abutment side was tightened to 20 Ncm. On the opposite side, vertical discrepancy was measured with stereo microscope from front, back, and lateral side of the implant-abutment interface. One-way ANOVA was performed to analyze the marginal fit discrepancy. Results: One-way ANOVA test showed significant differences among all groups ($P$<.05) except for Group 1 and 3. Among them, difference between Group 1 and 2 was noticeable. Measured vertical discrepancies were all below $70{\mu}m$ except to Group 2. Conclusion: Base metal alloy and metal UCLA abutment could be used as an alternative to high-priced gold alloy for implant bar-retained framework.
This review covers recent developments in our group regarding the synthesis, characterization and applications of single-crystalline one-dimensional nanostructures based on a wide range of material systems including noble metals, metal silicides and metal germanides. For the single-crystalline one-dimensional nanostructures growth, we have employed chemical vapor transport approach without using any catalysts, capping reagents, and templates because of its simplicity and wide applicability. Au, Pd, and Pt nanowires are epitaxially grown on various substrates, in which the nanowires grow from seed crystals by the correlations of the geometry and orientation of seed crystals with those of as-grown nanowires. We also present the synthesis of numerous metal silicide and germanide 1D nanostructures. By simply varying reaction conditions, furthermore, nanowires of metastable phase, such as $Fe_5Si_3$ and $Co_3Si$, and composition tuned cobalt silicides (CoSi, $Co_2Si$, $Co_3Si$) and iron germanides ($Fe_{1.3}Ge$ and $Fe_3Ge$) nanowires are synthesized. Such developments can be utilized as advanced platforms or building blocks for a wide range of applications such as plasmonics, sensings, nanoelectronics, and spintronics.
Ionic liquids are steadily attracting interests throughout a recent decade and their application is expanding into various fields including electrochemistry due to their unique properties such as non-volatility, inflammability, low toxicity, good ionic conductivity, wide electrochemical potential window and so on. These features make ionic liquids become an alternative solution for electrodeposition of metals that cannot be electroplated in aqueous electrolytes. In this review, we classify investigated metals into three categories, which are light (Li, Mg), refractory (Ti, Ta) and noble (Pd, Pt, Au) metals, rather than covering the exhaustive list of metals and try to update the recent development in this area. In electrodeposition of light metals, granular fine Li particles were successfully obtained while the passivation of electrodeposited Mg layers is an obstacle to reversible deposition-dissolution process of Mg. In the case of refractory metals, the quality of Ta and Ti deposit particles was effectively improved with addition of LiF and pyrrole, respectively. In noble metal category, EMIM TFSA ionic liquid as an electrolyte for Au electrodeposition was proven to be effective and BMP TFSA ionic liquid developed a smooth Pd deposit. Pt nanoparticle production from ionic liquid droplet in aqueous solution can be cost-effective and display an excellent electrocatalytic activity.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the atmosphere are harmful materials which influence indoor air environment and human health. Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) is photocatalyst extensively used in degradation of organic compound. To improve the photocatalytic activity in the visible light region, doping with non-metals element or loading noble metals on the surface of $TiO_2$ is generally proposed. In this study, N- doped $TiO_2$ having photocatalytic activity in visible light region was attached noble metal such as Pt, Ag, Pd, Au by coupling method. Catalytic activities of Noble metal coupled $N-TiO_2$ powders were evaluated by the improvement of their photocatalytic activities and the degradation of VOC gas. A UV-Vis spectrophotometer was used to measure the diffuse reflectance spectra of coupled $N-TiO_2$ sample. The photocatlytic activities of as prepared samples were characterized by the decoloration of aqueous MB solution under Xenon light source (UV and visible light). To measure of decomposition VOCs, ethylbenzene was selected for target VOC material and the concentration was monitored under UVLED irradiation in a closed chamber system. Adjusting the initial concentration of 10~12 ppm, to evaluate the removal characteristics by using the coupled $N-TiO_2$.
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. Zirconia-based restorations have the common technical complication of delamination, or porcelain chipping, from the zirconia core. Thus the shear bond strength between the zirconia core and the veneering porcelain requires investigation in order to facilitate the material's clinical use. PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding strength of the porcelain veneer to the zirconia core and to other various metal alloys (high noble metal alloy and base metal alloy). MATERIAL AND METHODS. 15 rectangular ($4\times4\times9mm$) specimens each of zirconia (Cercon), base metal alloy (Tillite), high noble metal alloy (Degudent H) were fabricated for the shear bond strength test. The veneering porcelain recommended by the manufacturer for each type of material was fired to the core in thickness of 3mm. After firing, the specimens were embedded in the PTFE mold, placed on a mounting jig, and subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine. Load was applied at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min until fracture. The average shear strength (MPa) was analyzed with the oneway ANOVA and the Tukey's test ($\alpha$= .05). The fractured specimens were examined using SEM and EDX to determine the failure pattern. RESULTS. The mean shear strength ($\pm\;SD$) in MPa was 25.43 ($\pm\;3.12$) in the zirconia group, 35.87 ($\pm\;4.23$) in the base metal group, 38.00 ($\pm\;5.23$) in the high noble metal group. The ANOVA showed a significant difference among groups, and the Tukey' s test presented a significant difference between the zirconia group and the metal group. Microscopic examination showed that the failure primarily occurred near the interface with the residual veneering porcelain remaining on the core. CONCLUSION. There was a significant difference between the metal ceramic and zirconia ceramic group in shear bond strength. There was no significant difference between the base metal alloy and the high noble metal alloy.

In this work, we present the electrochemical properties of Al bipolar plate, which can be re-searched for the application of PEMFC system. Bulk resistance of the plate was measured with a four-point probe method. The electrical conductivity of noble metal coated Al plate was 4.40 x 10$^4$ S/cm. On the other hand, the electrical interfacial resistance of the noble metal coated Al plate valued at 0.15 mΩ-$\textrm{cm}^2$ and that of graphite was 0.26 mΩ-$\textrm{cm}^2$ under the holding pressure of 140 N/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at the applied current of 5 A. And the performance of Al bipolar plate for PEMFC was evaluated at various conditions. The single cell performance was more than 0.43 W/$\textrm{cm}^2$ (0.47 Wig) for noble metal coated Al bipolar plate at 5$0^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric pressure in external humidified hydrogen and oxygen condition. As the present results, we could show the results that the noble metal coated Al bipolar plates were favorable in the aspect of electrical properties compared with those of the commercialized resin-impregnated graphite plates.
In this work, the conversion of crystalline cellulose into polyols in the presence of hydrogen was examined over noble metal (Pt, Ru, Ir, Rh, and Pd) catalysts supported on activated carbon. For comparison, Pt/${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ and Pt/H-mordenite were also investigated. Several techniques: $N_2$ physisorption, X-ray diffraction(XRD), inductively-coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), temperature-programmed reduction with $H_2$ ($H_2$-TPR) and CO chemisorption were employed to characterize the catalysts. The cellulose conversion was not strongly dependent on the types of the catalyst used. Pt/AC showed the highest yields to polyols among activated carbon-supported noble metal catalysts, viz. Pt/AC, Ru/AC, Ir/AC, Rh/AC and Pd/AC.

This research project focused on the production of hydrogen through ammonia decomposition reactions while investigating how the reactivity of this process varies when employing different catalysts. Several metal oxide supports (Al2O3, La2O3, CeO2) were utilized as catalysts, with active metals from both the transition metal group (Co, Ni, Fe, Cr, Cu) and the noble metal group (Ru, Rh, Pd, Pt) impregnated onto these supports. Furthermore, the study examined how the reactivity evolves with changes in reaction temperature when employing the prepared catalysts. Additionally, the research delved into the distinctive activation energies associated with each of the catalysts. In this research, In the noble metal catalyst system, the order of high activity for ammonia decomposition reaction to produce hydrogen is Ru > Rh > Pt ≈ Pd. In the transition metal catalyst system, the order of high activity is Co > Ni > Fe > Cr > Cu.
The nanosized silver and gold particles are prepared by ERC method in which metal vapors with high temperature is rapidly quenched by coolants such as liquid nitrogen or liquid argon. In order to monitor the crystal structural changes on the internal and the surface of the nanosized noble metal particles, lattice parameter, internal strain and Debye-Waller factor are investigated, and the calculation of X-ray diffraction scattering intensity is performed. The lattice parameters of silver and gold particles agree with those of bulk materials, and crystal internal strain of the metal particles is not changed by rapid cooling. The Debye-Waller factor of gold particles is increased with decreasing particle size because of the surface softening phenomenon of nanosized particles, but the crystal structural change on the surface of the particles is not detected from the comparison the calculated X-ray diffraction profile with the experimental profile on gold particles with the particle size of 4 nm.
