Residual Level, Histology, and Blood Biochemistry of Tebuconazole: A Repeated Dose 28-Day Oral Toxicity Study in Pigs

  • In this study, we investigated the residual properties of tebuconazole-treated pigs. Twenty pigs were treated with different concentrations (0.25, 1.25, 2.5, 12.5, and 25 mg/kg bw/d) of tebuconazole for 28 d. Blood biochemistry, histology, and residual levels were analyzed using the VetTest analyzer, Masson's trichrome staining kit, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, respectively. The final body weights were not significantly different between the control and treatment groups. Alkaline phosphatase, blood urea nitrogen, cholesterol, and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase levels were significantly different from those of the control after exposure for 14 d. However, alanine aminotransferase levels showed changes only after exposure to pesticides for 28 d. The biochemical parameters were separated during the experimental period (14 d versus 28 d) by principal component analysis. Based on variable importance plots, blood urea nitrogen/creatinine ratio, blood urea nitrogen, glucose, and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase are candidate biomarkers for tebuconazole exposure. The residual levels were observed at T4 (12.5 mg/kg bw/d) and T5 (25 mg/kg bw/d) in the liver and fat tissues, respectively. Fibrosis increased in the liver, kidney, and fat tissues, depending on the tebuconazole concentration. In conclusion, the residue limits of tebuconazole and the physiological changes caused by dietary tebuconazole in pigs provide important information for establishing maximum residue limits of pork and pork products.

잡초군락형별로 본 질소시비량과 재식밀도가 수도의 경합력에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Plant Spacing on the Competitive Ability of Rice Growing in Association with Various Weed Communities at Different Nitrogen Levels)

  • 잡초군락형별(피, 물달개비, 피+뭍달게피 군락형), 질소시비종(0.80, 160kg/ha)에 따른 수도재식거리 (10$\times$10cm, 20$\times$20cm, 30$\times$30cm)가 잡초와의 경쟁에 미치는 영향을 구명하고자 1978년에 필리핀 소재 국제미작연구기(IRRI) 시험포장에서 포장실험으로 실시한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 잡초의 우점도는 질소시용량에 따라 차리가 있었는데 질소시용량이 증가될수록 물달개비의 우점도는 높아졌으나, 피와 방동산이과 잡초는 감소되었다. 2. 재식거리 10$\times$10cm구에서는 잡초발생 억제효과가 질소시용량이 증가할 수록 저하되었으며, 30$\times$30cm 다비구(160kg/ha)에서는 전혀 잡초억제 효과가 인정되지 않았다. 3. 재식거리 10$\times$10cm구에서는 제초구와 무제초구간의 수량차이가 없었으나, 재식거리 20$\times$20cm 와 30\times30cm구에서는 무제초구에서 현저한 수량감소를 초래하였는데, 그 정도는 30$\times$30cm구에서 더욱 컸다. 4. 잡초와의 경쟁에 의한 수도수량감소는 수량구성요소중 수수감소가 가장 큰 요인이었다. 5. 잡초발생량과 수도수량감소율과의 상관는 부의 상관관계가 있었는데, 그 정도는 시비량이 증가할수록 컸다.

Digestibility, ruminal fermentation, and nitrogen balance with various feeding levels of oil palm fronds treated with Lentinus sajor-caju in goats

  • Objective: This study was an attempt to investigate the effect of levels of fungal (Lentinus sajor-caju) treated oil palm fronds (FTOPF) on digestibility, rumen fermentation, and nitrogen balance in goats. Methods: Four 16 month old male crossbred (Thai Native${\times}$Anglo Nubian) goats with initial body weights of $33.5{\pm}1.7kg$ were randomly assigned according to a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design. Four levels of FTOPF were assigned for feed intake. The experimental treatments consisted of 0%, 33%, 67%, and 100% of oil palm fronds (OPF) being replaced by FTOPF. Results: The results revealed that total dry matter intake and nutrient intake were not influenced (p>0.05) by the inclusion of FTOPF. However, the efficiency values of the digestibility of the dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, and acid detergent lignin on FTOPF were higher (p<0.05) in treatments with 33%, 67%, and 100% of FTOPF compared with 0% of FTOPF. FTOPF feeding did not change the rumen pH, temperature, and $NH_3-N$. However, the FTOPF levels did affect the total volatile fatty acid (VFA), molar proportion of acetate, propionate, butyrate, ratio of acetic (propionic acid and acetic) plus butyric (propionic acid), and production of $CH_4$. The totals of VFA and propionate was lower in goat fed with 0% of FTOPF than in those of the other groups (p<0.05). The amount of nitrogen retention based on g/d/animal or the percentage of nitrogen retained was the lowest the goat fed with 0% of FTOPF (p<0.05), whereas nitrogen intake, excretion, and absorption were not changed among treatments. Conclusion: Based on this study, FTOPF could be effectively used as an alternative roughage source in total mixed ration diets, constituting at least up to 100% of OPF.

Nitrogen-15 Determination in Tissues of Laying Hens Fed on Different Levels of $^{15}N-Chlorocholine$ Chloride ($^{15}N-CCC$) Diets

  • An experiment was conducted to determine the distribution of nitrogen-15 in tissues of laying hens receiving different levels of $^{15}N$-CCC in diets. Twenty brown laying hens were divided into four groups and randomly assigned into one of four dietary treatment groups consisting of 0, 5, 50 and 100 ppm $^{15}N$-CCC inclusion. The hens were individually fed with the $^{15}N$-CCC diets in battery cages for 11 days and then all hens restored to feeding on the control diet for 7 days. After eleven days, eight hens were slaughtered, and the others were slaughtered seven days after $^{15}N$-CCC diets withdrawal. Samples of blood, liver, heart and meat were collected and their $^{15}N$ contents were determined. The ${\delta}^{15}N$ excess (${\delta}^{15}N$-ex) and atom percentage excess in $^{15}N$ were calculated. The ${\delta}^{15}N$-ex and atom percentage excess $^{15}N$ increased significantly (p<0.05) with increasing levels of $^{15}N$-CCC in diets in all tissues after feeding $^{15}N$-CCC diets for eleven days. The highest concentration of ${\delta}^{15}N$-ex and atom percentage excess $^{15}N$ were detected in blood, followed in order by liver, heart and thigh meat. The concentrations reduced significantly (p<0.05) after $^{15}N$-CCC diets were withdrawn. Comparison between treatment groups showed that ${\delta}^{15}N$-ex and atom percentage excess $^{15}N$ were still higher in hens that had been fed diets with higher levels of $^{15}N$-CCC. This study showed that nitrogen-15 was distributed in blood, liver, heart and meat of laying hens.

대두의 토양산도에 따른 질소반응 연구 I. 토양 및 양액의 산도와 질소시용량이 콩의 근류착생, Allantoin 태질소 및 전질소함량에 미치는 영향 (Studies on the Varietal Response of Soybeans to Nitrogen Application level Under the Different Soil Acidity I. Effects of pH and Nitrogen Application Level on Nodulation, Allantoin-N and Total Nitrogen Content of Soybean Plants)

  • 토양 및 양액의 산도와 질소시용이 대두의 근류착생과 식물체중의 allantoin태질소 및 전질소함량과 주요무기성분함량에 미치는 영향을 구명하여 산도에 따른 질소반응을 밝히기 위하여 장백콩과 두엽콩을 시험하여 산도를 산성(pH 5)과 중성(pH 7) 조건으로 하고 질소시용량을 4수준으로 하여 양액재배 및 포장시험을 실시하였는데 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 근류의 착생은 산성조건에서 적었고 질소증시에 의하여 감소하는 경향이었는데 무질소구는 표준질소구보다 떨어졌으며 특히 근류의 건물중은 중성조건에서 질소증시에 의하여 현저히 감소하였다. 2. 식물체중의 allantoin 태 질소함량은 엽보다 줄기중에 현저히 많았는데 산성조건과 질소증시에 의하여 감소하였고 특히 중성조건에서 질소증시에 의한 allantoin 태 질소함량의 감소가 현저하였으며 이와같은 경향은 단엽콩에서 더욱 현저하게 나타났다. 3. 근류의 착생정도는 식물체중의 allantoin 태 질소함량과 유의적인 상관관계를 나타내었다. 4. 식물체중의 전질소함량은 pH가 낮은 산성조건에서 감소하였고 질소증시에 의하여 증가하였는데 그 정도는 산성조건에서 현저하였고 특히 장백콩에서 잘 나타났다. 5. 식물체중의 K, Ca, MG, Mn 등의 함량도 산성조건에서 감소하였고 칼리함량은 질소시용량의 증가에 의하여 감소하는 경향이었다. 6. 상성조건에 의한 근류의 착생, 식물체중의 allantoin 태질소 및 전질소함량 등의 감소정도는 단엽콩에 비하여 장백콩에서 적게 나타나 내산성 품종의 특성을 나타내었다.

Nitrogen Balance and Biological Nitrogen Fixation of Soybean in Soybean-Barley Cropping System

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate the soil nitrogen credit of biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) and the nitrogen balance of soybean in soybean-barley cropping systems. Soybean cultivar, Shinpaldalkong2 and barley cultivar, Olbori, were used in soybean mono-cropping (SM), barley monocropping (BM), and barley­soybean double cropping system. The barley-soybean double cropping system was treated with two different levels of nitrogen fertilizers, 0 nitrogen fertilizer (BS-F0), and standard nitrogen fertilizer (BS-F1). Nitrogen and organic matter concentrations in soil of BS-F1 plot on October, 2001 were increased $4.8\%\;and\;5.9\%$, respectively, compared with those on October, 2000. The ranges of BNF rate in soybean were $69.1\~ 88.2\%$ in two years, and the rate was the highest in BS-F0 plot and the lowest in SM plot. The ranges of nitrogen harvest index (NHI) in all treatments were $83.9\~86.7\%$. The yield was 270 kg/10a in BS­F1 plot and 215 kg/10a in BS-F0 plot. However, the nitrogen balances were +0.6 kg/10a of gain of soil nitrogen in BS-F0 plot and -0.4 kg/10a of loss of soil nitrogen in BS-F1 plot. In comparisons of SM and BS-F1 plots, although the seed yields were similar in two plots, the loss of soil nitrogen was higher in SM than BS-F1 plot. Overall, our results suggest that barley-soybean double cropping system was more effective in respect to seed productivity and soil nitrogen conservation than soybean monocropping system, and the N credit to following crops by soybean cultivation was identified in soybean double cropping system.

Effect of Sulphur and Nitrogen Application on Growth Characteristics, Seed and Oil Yields of Soybean Cultivars

  • A field experiment was conducted to assess the growth characteristics, seed and oil yield of two cultivars of soybean (G max (L.) Merr.) cv. PK-416 ($V_1$) and cv. PK-1024 ($V_2$) in relation to sulphur and nitrogen nutrition. Six combinations ($T_1-T_6$) of two levels of sulphur (0 and 40 kg $ha^{-1}$) and two levels of nitrogen (23.5 and 43.5 kg $ha^{-1}$) were applied to the two soybean cultivars as nutrients. Results indicated significant effect of sulphur and nitrogen, when applied together, on the growth characteristics, yield components, and seed and oil yield. Maximum response was observed with treatment $T_6$ (having 40 kg S and 43.5 kg N $ha^{-1}$). Seed and Oil yields were increased 90 and $102\%$ in $V_1$> and 104 and $123\%$ in $V_2$, respectively as compared to the control i.e. $T_1$ (having 0 kg S and 23.5 kg N $ha^{-1}$). Positive responses of S and N interaction on leaf area index, leaf area duration, crop growth rate and biomass production were also observed. The results obtained in these experiments clearly suggest that balanced and judicious application of nitrogen and sulphur can improve both seed and oil yield of soybean cultivars by enhancing their growth.

Monitoring Nutritional Status of Dairy Cows in Taiwan Using Milk Protein and Milk Urea Nitrogen

  • The climate and marketing system of raw milk in Taiwan create problems in balance feeding of protein and energy in lactating cows in Taiwan. Level of urea nitrogen both in bulk milk and serum reflects ruminal protein degradation and post-ruminal protein provision, whereas milk protein concentration responds to dietary energy intake and bacterial protein production in the rumen. Establishment of a range of reference standards in milk protein and urea nitrogen levels can be applied as a noninvasive economical feeding guide to monitor the balance of protein and energy intake. Standard reference levels of 3.0% milk protein and 11-17 mg/dL milk urea nitrogen (MUN) were established. Level of milk protein below 3.0% is regarded as indicating inadequate dietary energy whereas MUN below or above the range is regarded as a deficiency or surplus in dietary protein. Results from analysis of bulk a milk samples collected from 174 dairy herds over Taiwan showed that only one quarter (25.29%) of the herds received a balanced intake of protein and energy, 33.33% adequate protein with energy inadequate, 22.99% herds in protein surplus with energy inadequate, 10.35% herds in protein surplus with energy adequate, 4.6% protein deficiency with energy adequate, and 3.45% herds with both protein and energy inadequate. Energy inadequate herds accounted for 60% of the total dairy herds in Taiwan with 56% adequate, 38% surplus and 6% inadequate in protein. In comparing milk sampled from bulk milk on different seasons from Lee-Kang area in the southern Taiwan, the concentrations of milk fat and milk protein were significantly higher in the cool season (February) than in the warm season (August) (p<0.05), whereas the urea nitrogen in the milk was significantly lower in the cool season than in the warm season (p<0.05). This indicated that lactating cows had excess protein and/or inadequate energy intake in the warm season in this area. It appears that the major problem feeding in lactating cows is energy intake shortage, especially during the warm season in Taiwan.

약산성 토양에서 석회와 인산시용이 Alfalfa의 생장 및 질소고정에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Lime and Phosphate Application on Growth and Nitrogen Fixation of alfalfa in Low Acid Soil)

  • 본 시험은 석회(0, 250, 1,000kg/10a)와 인산(0, 17 및 34kg/10a)t용이 alfalfa의 생장 및 질소고정에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 전남대학교 농과대학내 온실에서 pot로 수행되었는데 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 실험기간동안 alfalfa의 지상부와 지하부의 건물중, 근류중량 및 acetylene환원력은 pH6.2인 토양에서 석회시용 효과가 인정되지 않았지만, 인산시용 효과는 인정되었다(p<0.05). 파종 후 7주에서 alfalfa의 부위별 전질소 함량은 석회시용구가 무시용구보다 증가하였으나 석회시용 수준간에는 차이가 나타나지 않았으며 인산시용 효과도 나타나지 않았다. 파종 후 12주에서 alfalfa의 부위별 전질소 함량은 석회시용구와 무시용구사이에 차이가 나타나지 않았고, 인산시용구는 무시용구보다 낮아지는 경향을 보였다(p<0.05). 이상의 결과를 종합해볼 때, pH6.2인 약산성 토양에서 석회 10a당 250kg시용구아ㅗ 인산 34kg시용구가 alfalfa의 생장 및 질소 고정에 유리하게 작용하였다.

시설재배 토양의 질산태질소 검정에 의한 배추의 질소시비량 결정 (Nitrogen Recommendation Based on Soil Nitrate Test for Chinese Cabbage Grown in Plastic Film House)

  • 시설재배조건하에서 토양의 질산태질소함량과 시용질소에 대한 배추의 수량반응 및 시비효율 등을 검토한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 토양의 $NO_3{^-}-N$함량은 배추의 수량 및 질소흡수량과는 유의한 정상관, 시비효율과는 유의한 부의 상관이 있어서, 시험전 토양의 $NO_3{^-}-N$ 310mg/kg정도 있으면 질소무비재배가 가능하였다. 질소시비량 추정회귀식에서 시험전토양의 질산태질소함량에 따른 배추의 질소시비량 추천식은 y=-1.424x+441.356(x:시험전토양의 $NO_3{^-}-N$, mg/kg, y:질소시비량 kg/ha)이었다.
