A Cooperative ARQ strategy in Ad hoc Cognitive Relays for Mobile Multimedia Communication (이동 멀티미디어 통신을 위한 Ad-hoc Cognitive Relay의 Cooperative ARQ 재전송 기법)

  • Cooperative ARQ scheme is effective for better QoS guarantee for the next generation mobile communication systems where multimedia data transmission highly increases. In this paper, we propose a cooperative ARQ strategy in ad hoc cognitive relays for mobile multimedia communication for supporting instantaneous cooperation in MANET environment. In the proposed strategy, to support real time, delay-sensitive services, whenever a frame is transmitted from the source, each relay actively senses the SINR of the signal transmitted from the source, and determine whether to propose retransmission or not before the destination transmits feedback signal. To minimize the false retransmission decision or needless retransmission, we propose an adaptive sensing threshold optimization algorithm to maintain suboptimal sensing thresholds for each relay. By computer simulation, it is shown that the proposed cooperative ARQ retransmission scheme outperforms the conventional schemes with respect to frame transmission delay and frame loss probability in real time multimedia data transmission system.

Challenge of Personalized Medicine in the Genomic Era (유전의료시대의 "맞춤의학")

  • "Personalized medicine," the goal of which is to provide better clinical care by applying patient's own genomic information to their health care is a global challenge for the $21^{st}$ century "genomic era." This is especially true in Korea, where provisions for clinical genetic services are inadequate for the existing demand, let alone future demands. Genomics-based knowledge and tools make it possible to approach each patient as a unique biological individual, which has led to a paradigm-shift in medical practice, giving it more of a predictive focus as compared with current treatment oriented approach. With recent advancements in genomics, many genetic tests, such as susceptibility genetic tests, have been developed for both rare single gene diseases and more common multifactorial diseases. Indeed, genetic tests for presymtomatic individuals and genetic tests for drug response have become widely available, and personalized medicine will face the challenge of assisting patients who use such tests to make appropriate and wise use of genetic risk assessment. A major challenge of genomic medicine lies in understanding and communicating disease risk in order to facilitate and support patients and their families in making informed decisions. Establishment of a health care system with provisions for genetic counseling as an integral part of health care service, in addition to genomic literacy of health care providers, is vital to meet this growing challenge. Realization of the promise of personalized medicine in the era of genomics for improvement of health care is dependent on further development of next generation sequencing technology and affordable sequencing test costs. Also necessary will be policy development concerning the ethical, legal and social issues of genomic medicine and an educated and ready medical community with clinical practice guidelines for genetic counseling and genetic testing.

  • The service which is required wide bandwidth is growing in these days, so building up High Speed communication system is being required. The Task Force team of IEEE 802.3ah set the EPON as a standard; next generation subscriber access network. For offering a high quality service, 10G EPON that is changed from 1Gbps uplink downlink bandwidth to 10Gbps is come up. Although Kramer had studied 10G EPON there was a QoS limitation, when load is low, End-to-End maximum delay is increased. This paper is suggesting time synch ronization method, resource reservation method, band width allocation method. We confirmed that 10EPON was able to offer quality service by the result of the OPNET.

  • VoIP (Voice over IP) is a technology to transport video and voice traffic over IP networks such as Internet. Today, the VoIP technology is viewed as the right choice for providing voice, video, and data communication among various terminals over the next generation network. This paper discusses a multipoint VoIP implementation with end-point mixing model which can support multipoint conference without a conference bridge. The multipoint VoIP is implemented with SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), and supports STUN (Simple Traversal of UDP Through NATs) since it works in an asymmetric NAT (Network Address Translator) environment. The characteristics of this paper are as follows. It is possible that all terminals in the hierarchical conference don't receive the duplicated media information because we use the end-point mixing model with the new media processing module. And, the paper solves the problem that the hierarchical conference session should be separated into several sessions when a mixing terminal terminates the hierarchical conference session.

  • The rapid advancement of computing technology has triggered the need for fast data I/O processing and high-performance storage technology. Next generation memory technology, which we refer to as new memory, is anticipated to be used for high-performance storage as they have excellent characteristics as a storage device with non-volatility and latency close to DRAM. This research proposes NTL (New memory Translation layer) as a technology to make use of new memory as storage. With the addition of NTL, conventional I/O is served with existing mature disk-based file systems providing compatibility, while new memory I/O is serviced through the NTL to take advantage of the byte-addressability feature of new memory. In this paper, we describe the design of NTL and provide experiment measurement results that show that our design will bring performance benefits.

  • The next generation mobile computing technology is recently attracting attention that smartphone and wearable device imbedded with various sensors are being deployed in the world. Existing activity and posture recognition research can be divided into two different ways considering feature of one's movement. While activity recognition focuses on catching distinct pattern according to continuous movement, posture recognition focuses on sudden change of posture and body orientation. There is a lack of research constructing a system mixing two separate patterns which could be applied in real world. In this paper, we propose a method to use both smartphone and wearable device to recognize activity and posture in the same time. To use smartphone and wearable sensor data together, we designed a pre-processing method and constructed recognition model mixing signal vector magnitude and orientation pattern features of vertical and horizontal. We considered cycling, fast/slow walking and running activities, and postures such as standing, sitting, and laying down. We confirmed the performance and validity by experiment, and proved the feasibility in real world.

High-Speed Monitoring Device to Inspect Inkjet Droplets with a Rotating Mirror and Its Measuring Method for Display Applications (잉크젯을 이용한 디스플레이 생산을 위한 회전 미러 방식의 잉크젯 액적 모니터링 장비 및 측정법 연구)

  • The development of an inkjet-based manufacturing machine for the production of next-generation displays using organic and quantum-dot light emitting diodes at a low cost has been conducted. To employ inkjet printing in production lines of displays, the development of a high-speed inkjet-monitoring device to verify the reliable droplet jetting status from multiple nozzles is required. In this study, an inkjet monitoring device using a rotatable mirror with rotary and linear ultrasonic motors is developed in place of a conventional, linear reciprocating, motion-based inkjet monitoring device. Its performance is also demonstrated. The measurements of circular patterns with diameters of $10{\mu}m$, $30{\mu}m$, and $50{\mu}m$ are performed with the accuracies of $0.5{\pm}1.0{\mu}m$, $-1.2{\pm}0.3{\mu}m$, and $0.2{\pm}0.5{\mu}m$, respectively, within 17 sec. By optimizing the control program, the takt time can be reduced to as short as 8.6 sec.

Wavelength Selective Switch using LCoS Display (LCoS 디스플레이를 이용한 파장선택스위치)

  • This paper presents the characterization of the wavelength selective switch using a LCOS display instead of a MEMS device, which is a core technology for the next generation ROADM. We constructed a five-port WSS, and examined the basic characteristics of the WSS, such as the response time, beam steering, insertion loss, and channel isolation. The response time of WSS was 11.6 mS and the beam steering characteristics of LCOS was well performed. The measured insertion loss at 40 channels in the c-band were 5.5~12.7 dB and channel isolation was 16~18 dB. Although the characteristics of LCOS-based WSS are inferior to the conventional MEMS-based WSS, it can be improved by additional experiments that secure the technology competitiveness.

Growth of ZnO Thin films Depending on the Substrates by RF Sputtering and Analysis of Their Microstructures (기판의 결정구조에 따른 RF 스퍼터링 ZnO 박막의 성장과 미세구조 분석)

  • To investigate the ZnO thin films which are interested in the next generation of short wavelength LEDs and Lasers, the ZnO thin films were deposited by RF sputtering system. At sputtering process of ZnO thin films, substrate temperature, work pressure respectively is $100^{\circ}C$ and 15 mTorr, and the purity of target is ZnO 5 N. The ZnO thin films were in-situ annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ in $O_2$ atmosphere. The thickness of ZnO thin films has implemented about $1.6{\mu}m$ at SEM analysis after in-situ annealing process. We have investigated the crystal structure of substrates, and so structural properties of ZnO thin films has estimate by using XRD, FWHM, FE-SEM and AFM. XRD and FE-SEM showed that ZnO thin films grown on substrates had a c-axis preferential orientation in the [0001] crystal direction. XPS spectra showed that ZnO thin film was showed a peak positions corresponding to the O1s and the Zn2p. As form above XPS, we showed that the atom ratio of Zn:O related 1:1.1504 on ZnO thin film, so we could obtained useful information for p-type ZnO thin film.

Analog Parallel Processing Algorithm of CNN-UM for Interframe Change Detection (프레임간의 영상 변화 검출을 위한 CNN-UM의 아날로그 병렬연산처리 알고리즘)

  • The CNN-UM algorithm which performs the analog parallel subtraction of images has been developed and its application study to the moving target detection has been done. The CNN-UM is the state of the art computation architecture with high computational potential of analog parallel processing. It is one of the strong candidates for the next generation of computing system which fulfills requirement of the real-time image processing. One weakness of the CNN-UM is that its analog parallel processing function is not fully utilized for the inter frame processing. If two subsequent image frames are superimposed with opposite signs on identical capacitors for short time period, the analog subtraction between them is achieved. The Principle of such temporal inter-frame processing algorithm has been described and its mathematical analysis has been done. Practical usefulness of the proposed algorithm has also been verified through the application for moving target detection.
