Breeding of New Ever-bearing Strawberry "Doha" Variety

  • "Doha" is a new strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) variety, which was released by the Highland Agriculture Research Institute in 2021. The "Doha" variety originates from a 2014 cross between "Saebong No. 3" and "Yeolha," both of which exhibited excellent ever-bearing characteristics, including continuous flowering and large fruits under long-day and high temperature conditions. This new cultivar was initially named "Saebong No. 13" after examining its characteristics and productivity during summer cultivation between 2015 and 2018. After regional adaptability tests, "Doha" was selected from "Saebong No. 13" as an elite cultivar. The general characteristics of "Doha" include spreading, elliptic leaves, and strong growth. The fruits are long and conical and of a red color. The plant height of "Doha" was similar to that of "Goha," but the number of leaves was lower. The number of flower clusters of "Doha" was 8.6, which was 2.8 fewer than that of the control variety, "Goha," with 11.4. The average fruit weight of "Doha" was 13.9 g, which was 4.9 g heavier than that of "Goha." The fruit hardness of "Doha" was 35.5 g·mm-2, which was 9.4 g·mm-2 harder than that of "Goha." The marketable yield of "Doha" was 26,971 kg·ha-1, 125% more than that of "Goha" with 21,479 kg·ha-1. The findings of this study suggest that "Doha" is a hard fruit and high-yielding variety of ever-bearing strawberries that could increase farming income when distributing to farmers.

  • A new silkworm variety, Chunsujam, for spring rearing season is F$_1$ hybrid between Japanese race Jam145 bred by 8459/8711 and Chinese race Jam146 by 8544/M8626. Jam145, Japanese parent of the Chunsujam, showed high GCA in pupation rate and Jam146, Chinese parent, showed high GCA in pupation rate and single cocoon weight. In the local adaptability test performed at 8 local areas in spring of 1999, Chunsujam was 5% higher in larval weight, 3% in single cocoon weight, and 4% in cocoon yield from 10,000 of the 3rd molted larvae, respectively, than the check variety Baegokjam.

  • A new non-cocooning silkworm variety, Hachojam, suitable for autumn rearing season is single cross Fl hybrid between Japanese race Jam 307 and Chinese race Jam 126. Jam 307, Japanese parent of the Hachojam, which is a source for non-cocooning process showed a high GCA (generation combining ability) in naked pupation rate and Jam 126, Chinese parent, showed a high GCA in pupation rate and single pupal weight. In the local adaptability test performed at 8 local areas in autumn of 1999 to 2000, the naked pupation rate and thin cocoon rate of Hachojam were 64.7% and 35.3% , respectively. The pupal weight calculated from 10,000 of the 3rd molted larvae was 24% heavier in Hachcjam than the cocoon-producing, check variety Daesungjam.

  • Today, customer-requirements are getting various, so manufacturing companies face many problems to reflect them with its' new product development or product variety. As the product model managed by companies is more increasing, there might be much more selection conditions and many kinds of parts requited for it. With those reasons, it demands many different kinds of BOM information for new product development and product variety. Under the those manufacturing environment, we can realize that lots of current products have shared many design property and common parts with those of old version. This thesis present these new products for common characteries are classified design property and common parts with those of old version. with product family and it define with modelling language which is Generic BOM. The suggested prototype programmed with Power Builder 6.0 and Ms-SQL is to help companies manage common parts and develop new product effectively by classifying product family's basic characteries with basic and changable levels.

  • Customer satisfaction level is usually measured in terms of price, qualify, customization, after-sale-service, product variety etc. Each firm sets up a distinctive production/marketing strategy to gain competitive advantage by Prioritizing the customer satisfaction measures. The market differentiation strategy directly results in supply chain performance such as lead time, inventory, customer fill rate and market share. Product proliferation desirable in customization sense often conflicts the economies of scale effect in production side. This paper focuses the relationship between product variety and market share. Specifically, we investigate how introduction of new product affects the current market share, i.e., formation of customer preference and provide some insight into the optimal range of product variety.

A Cold-Tolerant and High-yielding Italian Ryegrass New Variety, 'Kowinner' (내한 다수성 이탈리안 라이그라스 신품종 '코위너')

  • This experiment was carried out to breed the cold-tolerant variety of Italian ryegrass(Lolium multiflorum Lam.) in Grassland and Forages Division, National Livestock Research Institute, RDA, Suwon from 1987 to 2005. New variety, Kowinner as a tetraploid variety was dark green in leaf color and growth habit in autumn and early spring was semi-prostrate and medium, respectively Kowinner as a medium or late-heading variety was 19th May in heading date. Flag leaf length of Kowinner was 29 cm that was the same as control variety, Hwasan 101. Length of longest stem and plant length of Kowinner were 70 cm and 97 cm that was longer 3 cm than those of Hwasan 101, respectively. Stem width of Kowinner was thicker than that of Hwasan 101. Expecially, Kowinner was very good in regrowth. Cold tolerance of Kowinner was slightly weaker than that of Hwasan 101 and slightly stronger than that of Florida 80. Dry matter(DM) yield(12,884 kg/ha) of Kowinner was 8% more than that of Hwasan 101. In vitro dry matter digestibility and total digestible nutrient(TDN) of Kowinner were 76.2 and 63.3% that was 1.6 and 0.4% lower than those of Hwasan 101, respectively.

  • This experiment was carried out to breed a very early-maturing variety of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) in the Grassland and Forage Crops Division, National Institute of Animal Science, RDA, Cheonan, Korea from 2012 to 2014. New variety "Greenfarm3ho" is a diploid variety with a green leaf color, a semi-erect growth habit in late autumn/fall, and an erect growth habit in early spring. With a heading date of April 27, Greenfarm3ho was categorized as an early-maturing variety. Compared with the "Greenfarm" control variety, Greenfarm3ho's flag-leaf width was narrower by 0.5 mm, its flag-leaf length was longer by 4.4 cm, and its plant length was longer by 3 cm; additionally, Greenfarm3ho's stem thickness was 0.1 mm thicker and it showed winter hardiness. The dry matter (DM) yield (8,976 kg/ha) of Greenfarm3ho was similar to that of Greenfarm. The in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), total digestible nutrient (TDN), and crude protein (CP) of Greenfarm3ho were 70.0%, 64.1%, and 1.0%, respectively, which are higher than those of Greenfarm by 2.9%, 2.0%, and 1.4%, respectively. The acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) content of Greenfarm3ho were 31.4% and 53.3%, respectively, which are lower than those of Greenfarm by 2.5% and 3.0%, respectively.

A new variety, 'Green farm' is a diploid variety with green in leaf color and has erect and semi-erect growth habit in late autumn and early spring, respectively. 'Green farm' was on 28 April in heading date as a early-maturing variety. 'Green farm' was also wider by 0.4 mm in flag leaf width, longer by 0.8 cm in flag leaf length and shorter by 5 cm in plant height than those of control variety, 'Florida 80', respectively. 'Green farm' was thicker in stem thickness and stronger in winter hardness than those of the 'Florida 80'. Dry matter (DM) yield (11,790 kg/ha) of 'Green farm' was similar to that of 'Florida 80'. In vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), total digestible nutrient (TDN) and crude protein (CP) of 'Green farm' were 68.7, 63.3 and 10.3% which are 1.9, 1.7 and 0.6% higher than those of 'Florida 80', respectively. Acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of 'Green farm' were 32.5 and 54.6% which are 2.2 and 4.3% lower than those of the 'Florida 80', respectively.

New variety of Ryegrass, 'Green Call' is a diploid variety with green in leaf color and has semi-erect growth habit in late autumn and erect growth habit in early spring, 'Green Call' was on April 25 in heading date as a early-maturing variety. Also 'Green Call' was narrower by 2 mm in flag leaf width, longer by 1.3 cm in flag leaf length and shorter by 5 cm in plant height than those of control variety, 'Florida 80', respectively. 'Green Call' was also thicker by 0.14 mm in stem thickness and strong in winter hardness. Dry matter (DM) yield (11,592 kg/ha) of 'Green Call' was similar to that of 'Florida 80'. Total digestible nutrient (TDN), crude protein (CP) and relative feed value (RFV) of 'Green Call' were 60.8, 10.3 and 96.7 % which are 2.1, 1.1, 6.9 % higher than those of 'Florida 80', respectively. Acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of 'Green Call' were 35.5 and 58.9 % which are 2.7 and 2.3 % lower than those of 'Florida 80', respectively.
