This paper introduces the surface roughness parameter, Rs to the characterization of joint roughness and quantitatively illustrates the influence of joint roughness on the joint shear strength. A new peak shear strength criterion for rock joints using Rs is suggested. The results show that the surface roughness parameter, Rs can appropriately reflect the degree of roughness for the rock joint surfaces tested in this study A measuring interval of 2mm and profile length of 5cm can be used to characterize the joint roughness of the rock core size surfaces; however, the scale of fluctuation, $\delta_\alpha$ should be considered to extend the surface roughness parameter, Rs to the large-scale field rock joint surfaces. For the smooth joint roughness, sliding of the rock cores is the principal shear mechanism; however, the breakage of roughness from the rock cores is inferred for rougher joint roughness.
This paper presents detailed analysis of the internal forces of interior beam-column joints of reinforced concrete (RC) frames under seismic action, identifies critical joint sections, proposes consistent definitions of average joint shear stress and average joint shear strain, derives formulas for calculating average joint shear and joint torque, and reports simplified analysis of the effects of joint shear and torque on the flexural strengths of critical joint sections. Numerical results of internal joint forces and flexural strengths of critical joint sections are presented for a pair of concentric and eccentric interior connections extracted from a seismically designed RC frame. The results indicate that effects of joint shear and torque may reduce the column-to-beam flexural strength ratios to below unity and lead to "joint-yielding mechanism" for seismically designed interior connections. The information presented in this paper aims to provide some new insight into the seismic behavior of interior beam-column joints and form a preliminary basis for analyzing the complicated interaction of internal joint forces.

Due to intrinsic load eccentricity, severe peel stress concentration occurs at both ends of the single-lap joint. To avoid load eccentricity as well as the singular tensile peel stress in the joint interface, composite wavy-lap joint is proposed. In this paper, refined 3-D stress analysis of wavy-lap joint is performed by finite element method using parallel mutifrontal solver. Analysis results show that the singular tensile peel stress concentration is totally avoided in wavy-lap joint, and that loads are more evenly transferred over the length of the joint. Therefore, the strength of wavy-lap joint is significantly higher than that of conventional single-lap joint. And it is believed that even higher strengths can be obtained by optimizing the new design configuration.

This paper presents a new morphological spatio-temporal segmentation algorithm. The algorithm incorporates luminance and motion information simultaneously, and uses morphological tools such as morphological filtersand watershed algorithm. The procedure toward complete segmentation consists of three steps:joint marker extraction, boundary decision, and motion-based region fusion. First, the joint marker extraction identifies the presence of homogeneours regions in both motion and luminance, where a simple joint marker extraction technique is proposed. Second, the spatio-temporal boundaries are decided by the watershed algorithm. For this purposek, a new joint similarity measure is proposed. Finally, an elimination ofredundant regions is done using motion-based region function. By incorporating spatial and temporal information simultaneously, we can obtain visually meaningful segmentation results. Simulation results demonstratesthe efficiency of the proposed method.
In this paper, a new approach to acquire the cross-sentional image for automatic solder joint inspection of double-sided PCB using X-ray source is presented. We designed the apparatus with fixed X-ray source to realize the cross-sectional image by tunning object and detector synchronously. The cross-sectional images are captured at several view angle of X-ray source, the geometric image distortions caused by view angle and the shape of image intensifier are compensated. The precision variation of cross-sectional image by the change of view angle was investigated. Also we acquired the cross-sectional image to the solder joint of double-sided PCB and reconstructed the shape of solder joint.
A new type of electrogoniometer to measure the three dimensional motion of the human knee joint was developed. This instrument is composed of six potentiometers: four arranged for two universal joints, one for pin joint, and one for axial rotation measurement. The voltage change in six potentiometers were collected through A/D converter for acquisition, storage and analysis. With a developed instrument, gait analysis was performed. Compared to earlier developed triaxial type goniometer, new instrument shows its convenience in application and accuracy in measurement.

Though there are many kinds of type in the expansion joint of bridges, Transflex joint was usually used from 1970's to 1980's. But it made of rubber is needed to exchange to new one often because of the breakage by wheel load. This study performed the safety estimation which is to exchange the transflex joint to finger joint kept the part of situ-cast-concrete. The standard of finger joint is same as that of transflex joint, we investigated the safety of finger joint with experimental results and FEM (Finite element method) analysis.
Diffuse pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) involving ankle joint needs complete mass excision and total synovectomy to reduce recurrence rate, while surrounding ligaments can be easily damaged. So the concurrent ligament reconstruction should be considered for post-excisional instability in subtalar joint as well as lateral ankle joint. We describe our experience in the management of a diffuse type PVNS, invades lateral talocrural joint extended to subtalar joint and introduce a new technique of all-in-one reconstruction for anterior talofibular, calcaneofibular and cervical ligament. Our new reconstruction technique applying modified Chrisman and Snook technique is useful in stabilization for deficiencies of the ligament complexafter PVNS excisionat lateral ankle and subtalar joint.

We developed the copper core ball electroplated with Sn-Ag-Cu of the eutectic composition which used mostly as Pb free solder ball with high reliability. In order to search for the practicality of this developed copper core ball, the evaluation was executed by measuring the initial joint strength of the sample mounted on the substrate and reflowed and by measuring the joint strength of the sample after the high temperature leaving test and the constant temperature and the humidity leaving test. This evaluation was compered with those of the usual other copper core balls electroplated with (Sn,Sn-Ag,Sn-Cu,Sn-Bi) and the Sn-Ag-Cu solder ball.

In this paper, we present the new method for joint aspect inspecting system. We use the image processing and laser maker for light source. We can find the matrial joint status through processing the line pattern which is made by laser maker. To get the line pattern, in first, we did the preprocess of threshold. If the shape of line had over two segments, then the joint status is abnormal. We show our system efficency by experiment on tire facility.
