  • This paper investigates how digital technology innovates the aesthetic ontology of film images. The modern civilization of computer and internet bring about the new ontology of film images. Digital hybrid image expands the contradictory combination of physical reality and filmic fantasy. It is inevitable to recount Walter Benjamin' s concept of mechanical reproduction in the age of digital cinema. The modern condition of image arts changes the concept of mechanical reproduction to the logic of digital configuration. In addition, computer simulation innovates the film aesthetics of montage to the aesthetics of digital collage. The technological and aesthetical development of computer simulation and internet network leads to the new ontology of digital hybrid images. This study suggests a new theoretic point that the aesthetic ontology of digital hybrid images leads to the expansion of filmic fantasy and expression.

  • Hybrid power systems with fuel cells and batteries have the potential to improve the operation efficiency and dynamic response. A proper load management strategy is important to better system efficiency and endurance in hybrid systems. In this paper, a fuzzy logic algorithm has been used to determine the fuel cell output power depending on the external required power and the battery state of charge(SoC). If the required power of the hybrid system is small and the SoC is small, then the greater part of the fuel cell power is used to charge the battery pack. If the required power is relatively big and the SoC is big, then fuel cell and battery are concurrently used to supply the required power. These IF-THEN operation rules are implemented by fuzzy logic for the energy management system of hybrid system. The strategy is evaluated by simulation. The results show that fuzzy logic can be effectively used to optimize the operational efficiency of hybrid system and to maintain the battery SoC properly.

  • Economical consumption of energy, longer life of lamps, higher lighting comfort and new aesthetic of illumination is subject of numerous research and development works. The halogen lamps are an example of positive solution some of above mentioned problems. The electronic transformers are more frequent used for their supply. In comparison with conventional transformers they have less weight, less volume and 60% less power tosses. Their advantages are particular visible, when the hybrid technique is applied. The paper presents the results of engineering research and development works carried out ill Private Institute of Electronic Engineering, in R. & D. Center for Hybrid Microelectronics and Resistors and in Technical School of Communications in Krakow, in the field of the design and exploitation tests of hybrid converters 220V AC /12V DC (electronic transformers) and electronic ballasts destined for the supply of halogen lamps 20W to 150W and fluorescent lamps respectively. To perform the converters, thick film technology and surface mount technology were used. For the protection of converter electronic circuit the thick film temperature sensor and transistors were applied. Moreover the paper presents the base application circuits of elaborated converters, their technical parameters and exploitation results. The development perspectives of hybrid domain of hybrid circuits are also discussed.

  • This study investigates the electrochemical characteristics of the hybrid cell that combined the advantageous characteristics of Li secondary battery and supercapacitor, high energy density and high power density, respectively. Electrochemical behaviors of the hybrid cell was characterized by charge/discharge, cycle and impedance tests. The hybrid cell using Li secondary battery and supercapacitor had better discharge capacity and cycle performance than that of using Li secondary battery only. Proper design of such a hybrid cell system is expected to result in substantial benefits to the well being of the Li secondary battery. The hybrid cell involving Li secondary battery for high energy density and supercapacitor for high power density may be the possible solution for future energy storage system.

  • Two new and one unrecorded hybrids of the genus Asplenium were newly found in Korea. They were proved to be hybrid based on intermediate morphology between putative parents. The first hybrid is $A.{\times}uiryeongse$ C.S. Lee & K. Lee (Aspleniaceae), nom. nov. (vernacular name: geo-mi-sa-cheol-go-sa-ri). This new hydrid is a cross between the Asian walking fern, A. ruprechtii and A. pekinens in Uiryeong-gil, Mt. Bukansan, Seoul, Korea. The other new one occurs in Mt. Seongsan in Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do, Korea, $A.{\times}montanus$ C.S. Lee & K. Lee, nom. nov. (vernacular name: san-kko-ri-go-sa-ri) which might have experienced multiple hybridization events between A. ruprechtii ${\times}$ A. trichomanes and A. incisum following the hybrid between A. ruprechtii and A. trichomanes. In addition, one unrecorded hybrid, $A.{\times}kitazawae$ Kurata & Hutoh (vernacular name: geo-mi-dol-dam-go-sa-ri), reported first from Japan, is found in natural habitats in Do-dong, Daegu-si, and is a hybrid, between the Asian walking fern and A. sarelli. These hybrid taxa grow in sympatric regions with both putative parental species. The diagnostic characters for each taxon and evidence for their hybridization have been suggested. Descriptions, illustrations, and photographs of these hybrid taxa in their habitats are provided from Korea.

  • Since the late 20th century, post-modern society has needed new styles in environmental design. The land art begun during that time supplied the momentum for the birth of the hybrid environmental design. The new design approach, focusing on land form and landscaping begun with land-form architecture, raised a powerful current of hybridization in the environmental design genres. The new picturesque landscape design distinguished by manipulated land forms and sublimated aesthetics appeared under the influence of land art and land-form architecture. Similarly, landscape urbanism was formed by the fusion of landscape architecture and urbanism. Therefore, the representative hybrid styles in environmental design appear as new picturesque landscape design, land-form architecture and landscape urbanism. With the new, strong interest in land and landscape, this same new interest was given to 'time' on account of the dynamics and indeterminacy of urban society. This new interest in land and time gave rise to new hybrid methodologies for environmental design such as mapping, diagramming and folding. These three tools have been applied most comprehensively in landscape urbanism. The 'fold' is the most popular design tool for most of the hybrid genres. The 'diagram' is the second-most popular design tool mostly for landscape urbanism and land-form architecture. Mapping is being actively applied to landscape urbanism and passively applied in new picturesque landscape design. In general, landscape urbanism seems to be a timely and suitable alternative for contemporary urban society. It displays very high potentials in the regeneration of the locality through the comprehensive hybrid methodology. It is necessary to actively engage in and develop landscape urbanism fit the local needs.

  • In this paper, the new hybrid adaptive Volterra filter was proposed to be applied for compensating the nonlinear distortion of memoryless nonlinear systems with saturation characteristics. Through computer simulations as well as the analytical analysis, it could be shown that it is possible for both conventional Volterra filter and proposed hybrid Volterra filter, to be applied for linearizing the memoryless nonlinear system with nonlinear distortion. Also, the simulations results demonstrated that the proposed hybrid filter may have faster convergence speed and better capability of compensating the nonlinear distortion than the conventional Volterra filter.

  • Heuristic optimization using hybrid algorithms have provided a robust and efficient approach for solving many optimization problems. In this paper, a new hybrid algorithm using adaptive genetic algorithm (aGA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. The proposed hybrid algorithm is applied to solve numerical optimization functions. The results are compared with those of GA and other conventional PSOs. Finally, the proposed hybrid algorithm outperforms others.
