  • Web-based virtual machine/manufacturing system (VMS) utilizes Virtual Device Network (VDN.) VDN inevitably involves the implementation of Distributed Monitoring and Control Networks (DMCN). In general, one needs to integrate device (control) network and IP network to realize DMCN over IP network or internet, which can be viewed as a VDN. In this study, LonWorks networking technology is used for device network and the transmission characteristics of LonWorks/IP-based VDN is investigated. A method to minimize the transmission delay in the LonWorks/IP networks is also suggested.

  • In this paper, we propose a new communication network for on-chip communication. The network is based on a direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) technique. The new communication network is suitable for a parallel processing system and also drastically reduces the I/O pin count. Our network architecture is mainly divided into a CDMA-based network interface (CNI), a communication channel, a synchronizer. The network includes a reverse communication channel for reducing latency. The network decouples computation task from communication task by the CNI. An extreme truncation is considered to simplify the communication link. For the scalability of the network, we use a PN-code reuse method and a hierarchical structure. The network elements have a modular architecture. The communication network is done using fully synthesizable Verilog HDL to enhance the portability between process technologies.

  • In this paper, we describe ubiquitous environments and the trend of convergence that is an evolution path of current telecommunication, and show the concept of broadband convergence network, service feature and evolution path. In order to converge wire and wireless communication, telecommunication and broadcasting, voice and data efficiently, broadband convergence network divides a network into service layer, control layer, transport layer, ubiquitous access and terminal layer. Broadband convergence network will be a network that can provide and control broadband multimedia services with QoS and securityof different and customized level. Then we depict characteristics and types of broadband multimedia service, and describe the characteristic of broadband convergence network. Finally, we show ubiquitous network based on the broadband convergence network to provide ubiquitous service which is a future telecommunication service. We also describe requirements of ubiquitous network such as an intelligent and context based platform, convergence terminals, ubiquitous computing devices, etc., and give various emerging technologies and those applications.

Novel Home Network QoS Mechanism for the High-Definition IPTV Service based on Multicast Traffic (멀티캐스트기반 고화질 IPTV 서비스를 위한 홈네트워크 품질보장 기법)

  • The home network has been revitalized due to the emergence of the high-speed broadband network and explosive increases of the home network services. Especially multicast based high-definition (HD) IPTV service is on high demand from both Internet service provider (ISP) and users. In order to provide high quality HD IPTV service without packet loss and delay, the ISP utilizes various network QoS mechanisms. Due to the misleading fact, that the home gateway is considered as an end terminal in terms of the ISP's viewpoint, the ISPs can not guarantee the end-to-end QoS within the scope of the current home network architecture. Therefore, an independent QoS guaranteed mechanism should be considered within the home network domain. As the home gateway manages both private home and public access network within the home network, we propose and implement a novel QoS mechanism for the multicast based HD IPTV service over the home gateway. In order to provide QoS guaranteed HD IPTV service, the proposed mechanism classifies the packets, manages home network bandwidth resources, and executes call admission control using the channel join message. Also, we utilize layer 2 multicast packet forwarding scheme to improve the overall performance of the home network services. Through the experiments of implementing the multicast based HD IPTV services, we will verify the efficiency of the proposed mechanism.

  • Recently, various machine learning based traffic classification methods are focused on detecting malicious network traffic. In this paper, convolutional neural network based malicious network traffic classification method is introduced and its performance is evaluated. In order to utilize the convolutional neural network which is excellent in analyzing images, a image transform method from important information of network traffic to a standardized image is proposed, and the transformed images are used as learning input of a CNN network traffic classifier. By using the real network traffic dataset, the proposed image transform method and CNN based network traffic classification method are evaluated. Especially, under various configurations of CNN, the performance of the proposed method is evaluated.

  • Fuzzy logic, neural network, fuzzy-neural network play an important as the key technology of linguistic modeling for intelligent control and decision making in complex systems. The fuzzy -neural network (FNN) learning represents one of the most effective algorithms to build such linguistic models. This paper proposes learning approach of fuzzy-neural network by immune algorithm. The proposed learning model is presented in an immune based fuzzy-neural network (FNN) form which can handle linguistic knowledge by immune algorithm. The learning algorithm of an immune based FNN is composed of two phases. The first phase used to find the initial membership functions of the fuzzy neural network model. In the second phase, a new immune algorithm based optimization is proposed for tuning of membership functions and structure of the proposed model.

Video Quality Assessment based on Deep Neural Network

  • This paper proposes two video quality assessment methods based on deep neural network. (i)The first method uses the IQF-CNN (convolution neural network based on image quality features) to build image quality assessment method. The LIVE image database is used to test this method, the experiment show that it is effective. Therefore, this method is extended to the video quality assessment. At first every image frame of video is predicted, next the relationship between different image frames are analyzed by the hysteresis function and different window function to improve the accuracy of video quality assessment. (ii)The second method proposes a video quality assessment method based on convolution neural network (CNN) and gated circular unit network (GRU). First, the spatial features of video frames are extracted using CNN network, next the temporal features of the video frame using GRU network. Finally the extracted temporal and spatial features are analyzed by full connection layer of CNN network to obtain the video quality assessment score. All the above proposed methods are verified on the video databases, and compared with other methods.

R3: A Lightweight Reactive Ring based Routing Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks with Mobile Sinks

  • Designing efficient routing protocols for a wireless sensor network with mobile sinks (mWSN) is a challenging task since the network topology and data paths change frequently as sink nodes move. In this paper, we design a novel lightweight reactive ring based routing protocol called R3, which removes the need of proactively maintaining data paths to mobile sinks as they move in the network. To achieve high packet delivery ratio and low transmission cost, R3 combines ring based forwarding and trail based forwarding together. To support efficient ring based forwarding, we build a ring based structure for a network in a way such that each node in the network can easily obtain its ring ID and virtual angle information. For this purpose, we artificially create a virtual hole in the central area of the network and accordingly find a shortest cycled path enclosing the hole, which serves as base ring and is used for generating the remaining ring based structure. We accordingly present the detailed design description for R3, which only requires each node to keep very limited routing information. We derive the communication overhead by ring based forwarding. Extensive simulation results show that R3 can achieve high routing performance as compared with existing work.

Does City Function Depend on City Size? (도시의 기능은 규모에 의존하는가? - 네트워크 도시이론의 적용가능성을 중심으로 -)

  • The objective of this study is to identify the applicability of urban network theory. The degree of network and city size of 163 Si-Guns in Korea are used to perform an empirical analysis for 2005 and 2010. The result indicates that the effect of city size (based on central place theory) is still larger than the network effect (based on urban network theory). However, the effects are different according to the industrial types. The size-based effectis more efficient in manufacturing sector, whereas the network-based effect is more efficient in service industry. The trend from 2005 to 2010 indicates that there is an increasing pattern in network-based effect and decreasing patternin size-based effect. It is necessary to recognize continual benefit of the sized-based effect, however it is also important to distinguish different characteristics of the functional form by the size and network. The feasibility of the urban network theory is tested in this study with the empirical analysis and recommends the importance of policy implication with recognition of the distinction between size and network-based effects.

Measures to Activate the Community Network of Community Child Centers Based on the Systems Thinking (시스템사고에 근거한 지역아동센터의 지역사회 연계 활성화방안)

  • This study aims to comprehensively understand the dynamics of the community network of Community Child Centers and further find out the measures to activate its community network based on the Systems Thinking. The contents of the study are as follows. Firstly, it examines the existing studies on the community network of Community Child Centers and presents the major variables to understand the situation of its community network. Secondly, it analyzes the structure of its causation in order to understand the dynamics of its community network. Lastly, it concludes with the suggestions to activate its community network based on its feedback structure presented in the causal loop diagrams. This study is expected to make a useful and basic material as the first research to dynamically understand the community network issue of the Community Child Centers.
