  • This paper presents the development of three types of network performance manager for IEEE 802.4 token bus networks that are a part of Manufacturing Automation Protocol(MAP). The performance managers attempt to keep the average data latency below a certain level specified for each priority class. All of the three performance managers are based on a set of fuzzy rules incorporating the knowledge on the relationship between data latency and parameters of the priority mechanism. These Fuzzy Network Performance Managers(FNPMs) have been evaluated via discrete event simulation to demonstrate their efficacy.

  • Wireless sensors have been developed in numerous ways for enhancing the convenience of installation, management and maintenance of sensors. Energy harvesting wireless sensors, which can collect energy from the external environment for permanent usage without the need of recharging and exchanging batteries, have been developed and employed used in Internet of Things and at various industrial sites. Energy harvesting wireless sensors are significantly affected by the sensor lifespan to sudden variation in the external environment. Furthermore, reduction in the sensor operating timespan can greatly affect the characteristics of the devices connected through a network. In this paper, a system performance index is proposed that can comprehensively evaluate the lifespan of a solar cell wireless sensor, determine the characteristics of devices connected to the associated network, and recommend dynamic power distribution control for improving the system performance index. Improvement in the system performance index was verified by applying the proposed dynamic power distribution control to an air conditioner network system using a solar cell wireless sensor. Obtained results corroborate that the dynamic power distribution control can extend the lifespan of the incorporated wireless sensor and reduce the air conditioner's power consumption.

  • In this paper, the performance analysis for multimedia video codec(MPEG-4, H.264) on on-chip network communication architecture is presented. The On-Chip Network (OCN) is the new communication architecture of multimedia SoC design that overcomes the limits of On-Chip Bus architecture by providing higher data traffic bandwidth, reusability and higher scalability. We compared the performance of MPEG-4, H.264 decoder based on-chip network and AMBA on-chip bus. Experimental results show that the performance of MPEG-4, H.264 based on on-chip network is improved over 33~56% compared to the design based on AMBA on-chip bus.

  • In this paper, we research the IPTV that is the convergence technique of TV and network technique and performed the performance evaluation of picture quality of IPTV in the situation of increasing the network traffic in the Internet environment. To do this, we constructed the mock Internet network similar to the real Internet environment and measured the quality of received video using V-Factor model according to the increase of network traffic, and analyzed the result of the experiment. Making use of the result of this paper for the threshold value of V-Factor, the measured factor of network performance, the measured factor of video performance in the watchable IPTV video quality.

  • This study attempts to test the classifying performance of a neural network and thereby examine its applicability to the signals distorted in a shallow water environment. Linear frequency modulated(LFM) signals are simulated by using an acoustic model and also measured through sea experiment. The network is constructed to have three layers and trained on both data sets. To get normalized power spectra as feature vectors, the study considers the three transforms : shot-time Fourier transform (STFT), wavelet transform (WT) and pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution (PWVD). After trained on the simulated signals over water depth, the network gives over 95% performance with the signal to noise ratio (SNR) being up to-10 dB. Among the transforms, the PWVD presents the best performance particularly in a highly noisy condition. The network performs worse with the summer sound speed profile than with the winter profile. It is also expected to present much different performance by the variation of bottom property. When the network is trained on the measured signals, it gives a little better results than that trained on the simulated data. In conclusion, the simulated signals are successfully applied to training a network, and the trained network performs well in classifying the signals distorted by a surrounding environment and corrupted by noise.

  • In this paper we suggest a hybrid MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSN) to enhance network performance. The proposed MAC scheme is specifically designed for wireless sensor networks which consist of lots nodes. The contributions of this paper are: First, the proposed scheduling algorithm is independent of network topology. Even though the BS node has lots of one hop node in dense mode network, all the time slots can be assigned fully without increasing frequencies. Second, BS one hop nodes can use more than one time slots if necessary, so total network performance is increased. We compare the network performance of the proposed scheme with previous one, HyMAC [1].

  • In this paper, we consider a future u-Army network with VoIPv6 and evaluate the performance based on the large-scale simulation. The target model chosen in our paper is extended to an division network from several unit networks in which the scope of the performance simulation was limited with the small experiment network[l]. The simulation model is based on several practical scenarios and the actual condition of the division network with some assumption. The evaluated performance results will help to predict whether a future u-Army network meet the real-time service or not, and to design the network suitable for military condition and requirements.

  • Basically Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is an autonomous system with the collection of mobile nodes, these nodes are connected to each other by using wireless networks. A mobile ad hoc network poses this quality which makes topology in dynamic manner. As this type of network is Ad Hoc in nature hence it doesn't have fixed infrastructure. If a node wishes to transfer data from source node to a sink node in the network, the data must be passed through intermediate nodes to reach the destination node, hence in this process data packet loss occurs in various MANET protocols. This research study gives a comparison of various Mobile Ad Hoc Network routing protocols like proactive (DSDV) and reactive (AODV, DSR) by using random topology with more intermediate nodes using CBR traffic. Our simulation used 50, 100, and 150 nodes variations to examine the performance of the MANET routing protocols. We compared the performance of DSDV, AODV and DSR, MANET routing protocols with the result of existing protocol using NS-2 environment, on the basis of different performance parameters like Packet Delivery Ratio, average throughput and average end to end delay. Finally we found that our results are better in terms of throughput and packet delivery ratio along with low data loss.

  • Mobile Ad hoc Network is a network of multiple wireless nodes which communicate and exchange information together without any fixed and centralized infrastructure. The core objective for the development of MANET is to provide movability, portability and extensibility. Due to infrastructure less network topology of the network changes frequently this causes many challenges for designing routing algorithms. Many routing protocols for MANET have been suggested for last few years and research is still going on. In this paper we review three main routing protocols namely Proactive, Reactive and Hybrid, performance comparison of Proactive such as DSDV, Reactive as AODV, DSR, TORA and Hybrid as ZRP in different network scenarios including dynamic network size, changing number of nodes, changing movability of nodes, in high movability and denser network and low movability and low traffic. This paper analyzes these scenarios on the performance evaluation metrics e.g. Throughput, Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Normalized Routing Load(NRL) and End To-End delay(ETE).This paper also reviews various network layer security attacks challenge by routing protocols, detection mechanism proposes to detect these attacks and compare performance of these attacks on evaluation metrics such as Routing Overhead, Transmission Delay and packet drop rates.
